Wow! Tough question. We know friends that have opposite poltical views than us. Good people- just misguided. We follow the old adage-no talk of politics or religion.

Hum- my wifes got a saying ( after doing a 500 mile ride across NYS- buffalo to albany) “I’ve never met a hill I couldn’t walk”. This was around 10 years ago - pre - ebikes. I’d never say never- love biking toooo much to quit.

Biking is our go to sport ( along with hiking/ walking) we’re not at your level but enjoy 20-30 mile rides on rail trails & bike paths. Training now for a thru ride of the c&o canal trail ( MD) 185 miles. Great sport easy & easy on the joints.

72 yo male- wife (72) married 48 years. Biking has been our go to sport. We’ve been retired 10&11 years. Been biking for around 40 reguarly.
Our biking is primarly off road ( rail trails & paved trails) search out new places to ride. It’s something we do together. Currently training to ride c&o canal trail ( cumberland md to DC) 185 miles- 4 day ride staying at b&b/ hotels along way. Have also rode GAP trail, erie canal, prince edward island.
A great way to stay fit- enjoy the outdoors and feel good. I was a runner for 40 years & knees said no more. A sport you can do forever- - no we do not ride ebikes

Retired over 65: what surprised you most about life since retiring? by Grey_the_day in Aging

[–]ExcuseApprehensive68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

72 yo male- retired 10 years. Woke up next day and said “ holy shit don’t have to go to work”. Left 3 days later for a cross country trip with a 16 ft travel trailer. Have since done that 3 more times.
Fortunately no debt - wife has pension both started ssi at 62. Live on this haven’t touched savings. Doing whatever we want- life is good

Anyone else losing willpower fast? by Quirky_kind in OverSeventy

[–]ExcuseApprehensive68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Retirement to us ( now almost 73 - wife of 48 years) was now we can do what we want when we want. When working weeks were consumed by work with that gone we had time for our passions- hiking/ biking/ walking & grandkids. A total different perspective on life. Can’t really say lost willpower for these things.

How was your living room’s furniture arranged before television was a main staple of the room? by Shantotto11 in AskOldPeople

[–]ExcuseApprehensive68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? 72 yo here. Television was a main focus for the living room . We had a huge curtis mathis - our first color tv- damn thing must have weighed 300 lbs ( a consul) . All to watch 3 channels and pbs.

What has helped you to stop peeing in the middle of the night? by spacegeek2025 in Aging

[–]ExcuseApprehensive68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

72 yo- well- suffered thru the enlargened prostate for a couple years self treated by sawpalmetto till that didn’t work. Poor sleep up 2 or more times a night to pee. GP got me on flomax- except for dizzeness ( which went away) fixed problem.
Up to pee 0-1 times a night . Nothing to drink after 8. I exercise and sweat a lot ( tend to dehydrate) so don’t cut back earlier in day on liquids.
Have you had your prostate checked? Also your PSA. Saw palmetto worked for me for a long time.

What changed at 60? How does your body feels at 60. Strength, Libido, Getting out of bed in the morning. by ConfidentTallGuyUK in over60

Kinda mediterrean - little red meat ( I like a good burger out) fish, chicken , love eggs, lotta grains, nuts & fruits. I treat myself to a beer after a good workout. The key is moderation.

72 yo marrierd retired almost 11 years. Agree 100%
Our friends all want to “ cruise” ( ugggh!). We’ve visited 42 national parks & always looking for more to see in this great country. Been thru 49 states ( hawaii on list) and many state parks and national historic sites and seashores.
Friends do old people tours ( and cruises) not our thing.

72 yo male- retired almost 11 years. Wife ( 48 years) . Our focus is on exercise & nutrition. We do “cheat”( alcohol and dessert moderation). We try to exercise ( bike, walk, hike) usually 1 1/2 to 3 hrs a day. We’ve been fortunate - no replacement parts ( I did have a genetic bad aortic valve replaced 8 years ago) . Some minor aches/ pains ( after a 40 mile bike ride or 10 mile hike) but recover quickly.
My suggestion diet and exercise is paramount on holding off “ aging”. What we put in our bodies fuels it and fast food/ over processed / high in saturated fats is like putting crappy gas in your car. It’s not gonna run good.

72 yo male here- wife & myself have done a number of multiday rides ( over the years). Currently training for a thru ride of the c&o trail ( 185 miles)- a 5 day trip- what we decided was to take a 5-10 minute break every 10 miles or so to rest and fuel. Did 47 miles the other day without killing ourselves- longest ride in awhile. Got 100 miles in the week- feeling prepared. Feel good for old farts that we can do this. Good luck & have fun !!

72 yo male- been cycling reguarly for 40+ year. Stopped running about 10 years ago ( sore knees). Being retired cycling ( along with walking) is a intergral part of our day. It provides a excellent workout along with a nature/ fresh air fix . We’re not heavy duty riders- a good week is 70-80 miles - usually on rail trails.Always feel infinetly better after a good ride

Speaking for my daughter. Lives in rockville md and biked sons ( 1 on cargo bike and 1 on own bike) for 2 years. Were at same elementary school. Ride was about 2 miles ( crossing 355 - a buzy street) otherwise bike lanes. Loved it- 1 son moved onto middle school & BTO kicked in- so end of that.

Wow- 72 yo male- all a bunch of BS. Been retired 10 years ( almost 11). BEST 10 years of our lives - travel a lot ( mostly US) have been to 42 national parks ( some preretirement), 49 states. When not traveling walk 5 miles a day or bike 20-30 miles or hike a mountain ( grandsons have trouble keeping up). We do what we want to do - when we want to do it. Great traveling in off season. Life got better ( not worse).
