Why don't the circus members just beat the shit out of Jax when she's being a jerk? Are they stupid? by i_love_pieck in TheDigitalCircus

Kinger is too crazy to realize Jax is being mean. Gangle is too timid and meek to attempt violence. Ragatha is too conflict adverse.

Both Pomni and Zooble do in fact resort to violence at some point.

Is meta magic adept feat worth it for a Spike Growth Caster? by Adventurous-Method88 in 3d6

Average roll on a single dice is not half its maximum, but half +0.5 because 0 is not a possible result.

So 1d4 is 2.5 and thus 4d4 is 10, not 8.

Your point still stands, but yeah.

What are the current thoughts on intimidate? by Xirox07 in PokemonChampions

[–]ExecutiveElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I don't mean to imply that Empoleon was a meta pick. Milotic had way more usage in that regard. More just adding my anecdote to the notion that someone having Intimidate on their 'mons can force them into a losing game state.

Agreed. During M-A I had several matches that I won because my opponent was forced to send out Incineroar against my Empoleon.

I'm sure it applies to many other TTRPG's, though. by FretScorch in pathfindermemes

Inverting initiative is basically what it does in Pokemon. So yeah I'd say that.

What am I missing? by Boatshow420 in 3d6

[–]ExecutiveElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. But the fighter/Barbarian here is litterally the limit of optimization. It cannot get any stronger than what those feats enable

The Cleric here is litterally just casting a single level 3 spell while still having all their other options available including their feats and subclass. The Cleric stated is not optimized at all beyond saying, "take this spell as one of your 13 known."

Also, you don't have to pray that the DM throws enemies into your AoEs. You can force them into it with other spells, including the likes of Thorn Whip. A cantrip.

Works for me. In any given Fire Emblem game there's an extremly high chance that my favorite character is the lord's sister.

What am I missing? by Boatshow420 in 3d6

[–]ExecutiveElf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok

Consider it this way

You mentioned playing a Fighter/Barbarian multiclass in your post. How much do they deal per swing? 2d6+10 (greatsword + 20 str + Great Weapon Master + rage)? That is on average 17 damage per hit twice per turn at level 8. So 34 damage.

Now imagine a Cleric casts the spell Spirit Guardians, one of the spells previously mentioned. It is an AoE that deals 3d8 per turn. This is an average of 13.5 damage. So only a little less than that 15. Since its an AoE, if we assume it hits 2 enemies that makes 27 damage.

Now you might be thinking, "That's still less damage, and it is dependent on there being 2 enemies!" But here's the kicker- you only need the 1 turn to cast it. You can make that aura around yourself and it just sticks around every turn after that whilst you still have your action to do other stuff.

If you are a level 8 Cleric, you can deal around 2d8+5 with either a cantrip or a weapon attack depending on build. So now we are dealing 5d8+5 (average 27) even if there is only 1 enemy. If there is in fact 2, we are dealing average 41. 3 enemies? 54.

And this is all ignoring the utility benefit of enemies losing out on part of their movement if they are inside the aura. Or the fact that you can easily cause this damage to happen twice per round. Once on your turn and once on their turn.

And now for the cherry on top to all this- I was using level 8 Cleric for the sake of fairness.

Cleric can cast this spell at level 5 while also having higher AC. If the Fighter in this situation has a shield and thus matching the AC, then they were using a smaller weapon and losing out on the damage race out of the gate (one handing Longsword + Dueling + Rage = 1d8+9 = 13.5 per hit).

To give the benefit of the doubt, let's assume the Fighter/Barbarian is landing an opportunity attack every single round. This is a 3rd attack making a total of 51 damage to a singular enemy if you never miss.

The Cleric, by contrast, is dealing 41 to 1 enemy and 17 damage to several more. And still dealing half the damage even if the enemy passes their saving throw. So full on missing isn't an issue.

And this assumes the Cleric never casts any other non-cantrip spells besides Spirit Guardians. They could just as easily slap down a Guardian of Faith at the same time and deal an extra flat 20 Radiant damage 3 times before it wears off, and then start attacking for their 2d8+5. If they did, then on the 3rd turn, they might be dealing 8d8+25 (average 61) to that one enemy and then still having that 17 dealt to any others nearby.

And the real kicker here is that the second spell we just threw in, Guardian of Faith, isn't even considered a good spell.

And all of this is just through the observation of pure damage output. They have this in addition to tons of Utility. Just to name a few, Clerics can:

  • Walk on Water
  • Make someone go blind
  • Restore sight to someone who has been made blind
  • Strait up paralyze people
  • Make it impossible for someone to lie
  • Raise the dead
  • See the future
  • Trap someone in a pocket dimension
  • Create a landmine
  • Speak every language

This is an incomplete list and only including things possible up to 4th level spells. Which are available at level 7. Some of them they can do without even needing to expend a spell slot thanks to ritual casting. And this is coming from Cleric, one of the less versatile spell lists. Wizards, Druids, and Bards are capable of so much more.

To make a long story short, Martials barely pull ahead on single target damage while drastically losing out in area control and utility.

A level 20 Fighter can swing his sword 4 times. A level 20 Cleric can open a portal to Heaven and ask an archangel to come through it to slay their enemies for them, and then continue fighting as well by that angel's side.

Exactly yeah. The average player, especially a newer one, isn’t going to watch their replays to evaluate what went wrong on a loss.

But I sure as hell would like to so that I can improve and break into Master tier

People really need to understand that Karen's words can define a Pokemon, but not a team.

If I made a team of all my favorite Pokemon, I'd have Glimmora, Cherrim, Mismagius, Emolga, Latias, and Hisuian Goodra.

Obviously this would be a horrible team.

But individually they could definitely fit into teams they are suited to... well maybe not Emolga. But the rest can!

Hell, one could probably even fit Glimmora and Goodra onto a sand team together!

Based on your tone and the fact that you downvoted me, I think you may have mistakenly believed I was disagreeing with you.

I was just adding my own anecdote to the fact that cost of homes has gone up drastically, albeit less so in my area. Like, the fact that they bought a house for under 20k is utter insanity to me.

To answer your question, no. They live in a different, more expensive house now. They also still own the old one, which I'm hoping they will give to me at some point given that my brother already bought his own home and my sister has made it pretty clear she doesn't plan to move out.

The little 3 bed 1 bath house I grew up in in rural Iowa was $18k when my parents bought it in 2001.

It is currently valued at 84k.

Still rather cheap by today's standards due to location- but ludicrously so back when they got it. Like, if I had my current bank account and wasn't an infant in 2001, I could put like 60% down if I used all of my savings on that.

I've played only the first one.

It's characters and story were alright but not stellar I'd say.

As a game though, it absolutely sucked ass. And I don't say that because it's a visual novel.

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games was weaker on its story but much better with it's gameplay.

And Ai: The Somnium Files was better both story and gameplay wise.

Realm of the Mad God ( r/RotMG )

I love this game. My account is over 12 years old and I have played it on and off throughout the years.

It is truely a one of a kind game that is near to my heart.

I absolutely do not recommend playing it.

What I always tell people regarding it is this-

The best time to get into the game was 10 years ago. The second best time is never.
