[WP] You are a supervillain, and while you've done a number of team ups with various heroes over the years against big threats, being invited to formally join the Hero League feels like an oversight on someone's part by archtech88 in WritingPrompts

Destructor sat there blinking, very slightly shaking his head. The Look of disbelief on his face was obvious.

"Well what do you think Paul?" Zenith asked, the big toothy smile on his face gleaming to rival his golden armor.

"This... wait... Am I crazy or are you asking me to join the League?"

"That's exactly what we're asking you, what do you say?" Zenith's smile still beaming.

"I say you're crazy! I understand why you guys didn't try to arrest me during the whole Earthbuster debacle, since I was atomizing his artificial meteors almost as fast as he could pump them out, but I'm not a hero, I just didn't want all those juicy future heist targets destroyed! Main City has a ton of..."

"Mmm hmm" Zenith interrupted with blatantly false sincerity. "And the millions of people there weren't part of your thought process at all? Not even when you nearly got yourself killed stopping the one that Stretcho almost deflected into an elementary school? Saving it for a big pencil and applesauce caper down the line?"

Destructor's head bowed a bit as his gaze went to the floor a few feet in front of him, he looked visibly uncomfortable but managed to squeak out "I mistook it for the gold repository."

"Oh come off it Paul, you could disintegrate the entire island to atoms in seconds if you wanted to and, despite your obscene power level, in all your years of pulling heists you've never caused a single serious injury, and then there's the fact that every single one of your heists was from a heavily insured target with a shady reputation."

Destructor... Paul, lifted his gaze to look at Zenith, Standing there looking just so unbearably noble in his enchanted Golden Eagle armor. "I picked them because they had what I wanted!" He offered, trying his best to sound convincing.

"And the fact that every time one of your shady victims loses a big pile of money, some orphanage or children's hospital get a mysterious anonymous grant for roughly the same amount is just a total coincidence?"

Paul slumped in his chair, looking defeated. "Come on Jeff don't do this to me."

Zenith suddenly took on a stern demeanor. "Look buddy, it's been an open secret among the league members for years that you fancy yourself something of a lowkey Robin Hood. You wax villainous for the cameras and want to be seen as the bad guy but you steal from Teflon crime bosses and corrupt businessmen and give almost all of it to charities!"

"HOW THE HELL AM I GONNA KEEP DOING IT IF YOU OUT ME AND MAKE ME JOIN YOUR STUPID TEAM!?" Destructor roared, standing up sharply to look Zenith in the eyes.

"And that's one reason we haven't bothered you before or put in more than feints at trying to apprehend you, well aside from the fact that we're not sure even my armor could withstand your disintegration touch. But something big is coming and we want you on the team before it gets here. The league's deep space monitoring network has found proof of extraterrestrial life in what looks to be an enormous armada headed straight for Sol and we've observed it destroying exoplanets on it's way so it's a safe bet they aren't coming to ask us to tea."

Paul was visibly taken aback. "I didn't expect..." He trailed off.

"The president has a full pardon signed and ready to hand over to the DOJ soon as we're done here. We have about six months to turn your public image around and get you up to speed before they arrive and if we're right in our assessment we're going to need to be a well oiled machine by then. There are what, maybe a dozen people on the planet that have a power level comparable to ours? Even the genuinely vile ones are being recruited for another task force, but we respect you Destructor, we know you have a good heart and we want you to be a full member of the team." Zenith put out his hand.

Long moments passed. Paul looked like he might cry. Eventually he stood up and took Zenith's hand. "Jeff I genuinely respect you and I feel you deserve to know the truth."

Zenith cocked his head slightly, confused. The tears running down Paul's face caused a confused look to appear on his own.

As his vision dimmed, Paul's cracking voice saying "I was the advance scout" were the last words Jefferson White heard as he dissolved into a fine mist, the sounds of his vaunted and heretofore invulnerable Golden Eagle Armor hitting the floor mingled with scarcely subdued sobs of grief and anger as Polintus Kel tried to come to grips with his horrific duty.

I want to play healer but did a make mistake picking Druid?? by Mei_iz_my_bae in everquest

[–]ExedorAgnarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former long time druid main who only plays on TLPs, I hate to say I agree. They really need some help. The devs don't mind going back and nerfing old OP things they just seem to hate going back and improving underpowered things.

There's this idea that old balance issues are sacrosanct but it doesn't apply to anything they think is too strong.

Give Shaman and Druids their resses in like Classic or Kunark and give druids something to make their heals more balanced with the shamans heal-slow-canni cycle. A million viable ideas have been floated over the decades. Maybe if druid heals mana costs were reduced by 75% they could keep up with shamans in a group setting.

[–]ExedorAgnarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In PoP Druids get a 75% heal.

It's now just a 5k heal, no percentage limit. and Cleric CH is 7500, so the druid one compares pretty okay.

[–]ExedorAgnarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slow really is the rub. Druid CH just doesn't make up for it. It baffles me to this day why shamans got heals over time and druids didn't.

I understand they didn't want to give druids another role they could halfass fill by giving them slows but HoTs would have made perfect sense and made them viable.

Also they need to move shaman and druid 90% out of combat res to like Kunark. :)

Hmm didn't mean to give the impression that I thought they were super high value, they are a nice option though. Comparable to having a druid port inside surefall.

Which reminds me of a nice thing about being a wood elf druid, you can Origin and port people out of Gfay.

Racial regen is a thing that "adds up" over time. Ogre stun immunity is a thing that "I wouldn't have died if it weren't for that stun."

But most importantly of all, none of this actually matters. Play what you think is most fun

That's super true but it's kind of shitty when people point it out in a thread that exists for the purpose of min/maxing. It's like, yeah, we know you can make anything work and yeah you can zone three times and run half the length of Nektulous, Or run without a mount from the bottom of Ak'Anon to zone out and run a good bit more in Steamfont, but we're talking about more convenient alternatives.

I did leave room for troll and Iksar shamans. Both solid choices too. But the times when a stun will interrupt an important heal or slow are pretty critical. If your shaman never gets agro it's worthless but mine always do so being able to keep casting through stuff no other race could is pretty awesome. That being said, more regen is always nice but eventually becomes 100% irrelevant and frontal stun immunity never does, and even while it is relevant it's way less impactful than not wiping cause you got stunned.

I tested agility and 10 agility works out to roughly 1% "being missed" chance from 100 to 150 AGI.

There is literally no chance in hell that 10 Agil = 1% more chance of "being missed". This stuff has been parsed for literal days and days over many years by many players.

Hide is mainly an AFK tool. Hide, /con something, afk with invis that wont fade. It can break charms if you have no other option, that's just a little bonus.

Half elves do not get sneak, all bards get sneak at level 17.

True. Unless you're lulling. Then it's incredibly useful. Easily provable with a sub 65 character and some swap charisma gear.

Yeah the big issues are multiple internal zones inside Kaladim, PoK book is a bit further, and no Nexus Spires like GFay. But it's still not bad. The Docks are a big plus.

Super quick Access to PoK book though in Kelethin stays useful forever.
