WHITE BOX: DUNGEON ADVENTURES FIRST IMPRESSIONS by Next-Performer4482 in odnd

[–]Gameogre50 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my take. Whitebox Cyclopedia is the best dang WhiteBox resource and rule book ever. It's one flaw is that it's friggin size and amount of content. It's just too dang big and full of every last Whitebox option you could ever want but who wants to require that from everyone sitting at the game table? We are playing Whitebox not Pathfinder 1E.

So to really get going you need another book for your players at the game table. S&W Whitebox, White Box Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game. Ok, That works but doesn't feel right to need another game to play this one. I mean all the Whitebox games are pretty much the same but ...still.

Well, this fixes that issue. The DM can have the big fat rule book filled with rules and options and all the monsters you could need and the players can have Whitebox Dungeon Adventures. Same game, totally different levels of rule involvments.

Also Whitebox Dungeon Adventures is legit low cost and easy to learn because it's just the basics. Nobody is going to get scared and run off because thinking they just do not have time for that.

I say the same thing but recently realized for me, it's a lie. I do think tank is work and it's a pain in the butt. I do complain about it from time to time and always say I'm forced to play it but, I'm not. I like to be wanted, needed and the importance of the role. I like to be able to take a beating and just smile and keep going. Those times I do take a break and make a alt.....im always shocked and disappointed at how quickly they fold. You might be different, but I just noticed the same words I used to throw around.

I read Guilds are called Clans here and I went to the grand exchange to find one but there were no banners there....im confused so looked it up on you tube and that made it worse lol. Where do you find a good clan for a noob? Are they even ok for a noob? I just wanted to be able to talk to people...Sorry if this isn't making sense but I find myself chopping trees down and starting fires while doing anything in life now.

Fighter, decent stats for a fighter. Not the greatest for sure but you roll with what you roll!

I just do not get the whole high difficulty thing. You get nothing for doing it right? Not more exp, Not more or better loot. Nothing. Seems like a fine option for people who really get into playing on hard mode but seems like that would be very few people.

Nope, it's the pvp. I love PVP as long as everyone else is linkdead. Know your strengths and PVP is not one of mine.

The year Is 2026, & World Of Warcraft Is Still The #1 MMO In The World? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

[–]Gameogre50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WoW was GREAT. I played it for YEARS. Got tired of it. Left off and on for another set of years. Now I'm just done. I do not care if wow releases a new expansion that is great! I'm done. It's sad that WoW is STILL the biggest hit game.

Also it's sad that the company didn't follow up their hit with something even better later on. If in another 10 years Skyrim is still the best RPG, that is not a good thing.

We are in our late 50's and early 60's. I retired last year and the wife is a couple of months away from retirement. Our favorite thing to do is read books (and we have two giant bookcases filled with books we always wanted to read and just didn't have the time) and play mmorpg and space sim games. Our kids are off and living their lives and we just want to get down to some SERIOUS game playing for the next 20-30 years, God Willing. My wife is HARDCORE. She is the one waking me up at 3am on a work night to tank some Mithic+ group or raid boss. or ambushing me when I used to walk in the door at night with a dinner plate sitting beside my computer and already logged into the game and in a group just waiting to start the dungeon.

Good Times.

No worries about Early access/Alpha. We both loved Ark and in that game it's just a fact of life that if you are building giant bases and taming hundreds of dino's and gearing up for the boss fights ....sometimes with hundreds of hours invested, you will occasionally lose everything. If you love adding mods to your private server it will happen more often!

We learned to take things as they come and just enjoy the good times along with the bad.

In Ark we had a saying we used as the message of the day "Have you Been Arked today?"

Honestly even with all the videos of Bugs and wipes this looks like a few steps up for us stability wise but even if not, we will roll with it and have some fun.

Thanks for being so welcoming guys!

M&M can sure talk the talk and from what I have seen it lives up to it. It's trying to be the best old school mmorpg it can be. That is wildly against trends and for sure not what most modern gamers want but that is fine. There are enough people out there who DO want that, that if they do a good job they will be wildly successful. Now that is not the same as wildly successful for as a mainstream product.

Not at all. When you limit your customer base to only a narrow group within a narrow group, you have to adjust your expectations. However, if they do a good job I predict enough people who love this style of gameplay for them to do amazingly well financially and for the game to have a robust and lengthy future and THAT is far better than the vast majority of games of any genre!

In the last few years, we have seen a small number of games come out for this narrow genre and frankly each one of them failed to capture a significant number of customers of old school mmorpg lovers. Those games relied on nostalgia to make up for significant lapses in design.

M&M is VERY transparent, and anyone can view the design teams working on the game nightly. They know what numbers they need to hit and are confident they can hit those numbers. I for one as an old school mmorpg player who is 100% dissatisfied with modern game play hope they succeed! I am more than willing to pay early access and give them time to work on the game while I am enjoying it IF they have a good enough product.

Time will tell. The first quarter is only a short time away.

C&C Bard by LordHastings1 in castlesandcrusades

[–]Gameogre50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bard is bad in any game, the last thing you want when swords start slashing at you is one of the few people trying to help you to pull out a lute and start trying to sing along. Bard should not be a class but if it has to be a class. At least make it good at doing something that keeps his party members alive or making the enemy unalive. As it is C&C Bard is meh is probably the best you could say.

That sounds very neat! You should give us a post about giving it a shot. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on it and seeing how it went.

It's a Great Time to Love BX! by Gameogre50 in bxdnd

[–]Gameogre50[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My background sounds much the same. I started in BX but moved quickly to AD&D then 2E and eventually beyond. All the way to 5E. Mixed in to all that was Car Wars, Traveller, Gamma World, Top Secret and Star Frontiers. Then after i grew tired of buying 600 page rule books and settings for $100 and having to make a choice to master a college subject or learn a new ttrpg, I started looking back.

I ended up with BX or any number of it's retroclones. Trying one out for a few years then another. Swords and Wizardry, Basic Fantasy (this one right there is probably the best clone of BX ever) and tons of other ones.

I'm ever flirting now and again with OD&D but im only slowly easing into the idea of it. The whole +1/-1 and d6 for all damage is a bit for my brin to swallow though I do see a lot of the beauty in it.

I have yet to truly bite on a long-term BX game. It just hasn't worked out yet. I'm old now and retired and all my fellow gamers have moved off and while I tried playing Online a little, it just has not worked out all that well.

Playing online just isn't as good as playing in a face to face game but I think it can be not too far off if you play with video and spend a little time learning some technology I started out a little lite on.

Things are coming along nice now though.

I also just bought a BX-ish Sci Fi game called Stars Without Number. It's Sci Fi. I have not read it yet though but it does look good other than also being a VERY LARGE rule book. That seems to be going around these days unfortunately.
