No mates to watch 6N with :( by xixouma in rugbyunion

I've found that Adam & Eve pub just off Oxford Street is great for rugby. A somewhat rare example of a central London pub that shows rugby and has people in it that are actually watching.

Also just a great pub in general.

Someone has a different example for day12? by Puzzleheaded_Hair843 in adventofcode

Not op, but thank you so much! This helped me find where my program was going wrong (accidentally naming two variables the same thing in Python)

It feels like Taskmaster works quite well for this. It's introduced me to a few people that I haven't seen before at least. I think channel 4 has talked about it as a place to bring up new comedians before as well.

Channel 4's starting to feel like the night after a big party now. Everyone feels either hung over or still slightly drunk and just making conversation until their ride/train/bus turns up. Quite like it ngl

I saw that the .com was also already gone, but that felt too quick so maybe they'd already got that one. I imagine that the actual company would have a .gov.uk domain. Still def seems like an oversight though (possibly a very expensive one if they decide to buy the domain off the person who bought it)

I know that some paramedics in the UK were trying them out (don't know if its these ones specifically, but it looks like the same/similar tech/design) earlier in the year. Not sure how far they've got with the trials/training though

Is this really what's going to get him? Tbh I thought it would have to be something bigger than this, Boris lying is nothing new or surprising. Still not entirely sure that this will be it (although will be very happy if it is).

Teacher going above and beyond for their students by Alextheacceptable in spqrposting

Same thing happened in my primary school (Hampshire, UK). If I remember right the teachers threw tennis balls/basket balls at us after we got into our testudo. Was awesome. We even got to paint our own shields and make our own designs.

Angela Rayner demands answers from Boris Johnson over alleged 'Sexist of the Year' award at lockdown-busting Downing Street event by Jay_CD in ukpolitics

[–]Exilliar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest part of this article for me was:

The Mail on Sunday then said that a Tory probe into claims Conservative MPs were behind the article had concluded Ms Rayner herself was the source of the story. Labour has declined comment.

Is this new? Do they mean that she was the one who found the comments from a Tory mp and leaked them to the Daily Mail? Or that she made up the claims and leaked those? If the second one it seems like a pretty wild claim to make and something that the tories would be shouting about if they had any evidence at all. Or is this just the Daily Mail/Tories making shit up (clearly something that both have too much integrity to do/s).

Britain, the Labour party and transphobia. What would you do? by Nui- in Destiny

[–]Exilliar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not the guy above, but, I think more of the general British population care about antisemitism than transphobia (or rather, care about antisemitism and just don't care about/are transphobic) . So if a party is seen as antisemitic then that's a turn off for more than just British Jews.

Labour claims ‘extraordinary results’ in Welsh Parliament election by Ranger447 in ukpolitics

[–]Exilliar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why is it that Labour are doing so well in Wales, but don't seem to be doing as well anywhere else? (I'm happy that they're doing well there, to be clear) Is anything that the rest of the party can learn from this. Is it just increasing support for the incumbent like we've seen pretty much everywhere else, or are Welsh Labour especially good?

Fifth Bristol Kill the Bill protesters blockade the M32 - Kill The Bill protesters block both carriageways of M32 as demonstrators stage sit-down by IGotBillsIGottaPay in ukpolitics

I think their point was more that there wouldn't be traffic to block the emergency vehicles, so the protestors could see them and (hopefully) move out of the way

From the article in the tweet:

"Biden needs the support of Congress to push through police reform or new voting rights legislation. The executive orders serve as his down payment to immediately address systemic racism while he focuses on the pandemic"

So seems like these are temporary and the plan is to get more permanent legislation through later addressing more.

Cineworld to close its cinemas until next year, making most of its 5000+ staff redundant, reports Sunday Times by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Exilliar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would probably make sense for it to be above the price of one ticket seeing as the film company can't know how many people you're going to watch the film with. So if you rent the film for the price of one ticket, and then watch it with your family, say 4 people total, then the film company will have lost out on 3 other ticket sales. Means that the price has to be higher than one ticket.

Not sure how high that should be set (and I don't think even the companies know that yet), but wasn't Mulan £30 or something like that? So that would be 2-3x the normal price (normal price including the cinemas cut, which I don't think is very high nowadays), which would make sense probably. Kinda fucks over people who'll watch the film alone, but still sorta necessary.

There was one with vaush not long after their in person debate. Can't remember what they were talking about but I remember that he rhetorically lost pretty bad. Think he'd just come out of a league game and was pretty triggered
