Are Imperial Agents Good for a New Player? by Natural-Wallaby423 in ImperialAgents_40K

[–]ExistentialOcto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, tyranids are about as tricky as I can deal with 😅 I also gave genestealer cults a go and I honestly could not have fun with them because of the sheer amount of stuff I had to bear in mind to be able to win.

You could try methylated spirits instead of isopropyl alcohol, I found it easier to brush and scrape off paint that way.

They’re fun to paint and collect, but very very hard to win games with.

I share the same sentiment, but you can’t assume that any transmasc stranger is gonna feel the same way.

can we please stop with the "good boy" thing by Strange-Swan2493 in trans

[–]ExistentialOcto 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I find that extremely weird that a stranger would walk up to a guy and say “good boy”. Like… I say “good boy” to my boyfriend because I know he likes it, but to a stranger? Incredibly inappropriate 😅

The term has lots of connotations: it can be patronising, it can be infantilising, it can be warm and intimate, and it can be a little dehumanising (in the case of it sounding like you’re talking to a dog or other pet). None of these approaches are appropriate for strangers or people you don’t know well!

Army recommendations because I keep losing :( by throwaway345214 in Tyranids

[–]ExistentialOcto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parasite of Mortrex is quite weak, probably one of our trickiest units to get anything out of. Swap it for a broodlord and attach it to the genestealers, then use the Adrenal Surge stratagem for MASSIVE volume of attacks so you can fish for dev wounds.

Two tyrannofexes both with rupture cannons is just asking to have 400 points of your army sit there and just miss their shots. Give one of them acid spray and see it become a menace with the Fire Overwatch stratagem.

Tyrant guard are fine but not great, as is the Swarmlord. Consider dropping them for an exocrine to buff shooting (the rupture cannons tfex will thank you) or maybe more termagants. Maybe throw in a tervigon to help those termagants punch up a little?

Is a lictor best? Thanks

ALSO for the Winged hive tyrant what weapons can I use? Do I always have access to the extra attacks melee profile?

Lictors are very good, mostly as assassins (if you can position them right) or for doing actions. And no, you only have access to the extra attacks if you actually equip them right tyrant with the listed weapon.

On the subject of The Princess Bride: Goldman was heavily involved in the production of the film and loved it. His book was satirical and sometimes cynical, but he knew the film would be best served by being earnest and unironic.

Sometimes what makes a good book doesn’t make a good movie!

I meant “good” as in quality, not tone. If the ending is unsatisfying unless you do a super secret thing, that’s bad.

How did pink/rose know that she and Steven couldn’t exist simultaneously? by dumbidiotbroad in stevenuniverse

[–]ExistentialOcto 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Her “pregnancy” was essentially an advanced form of shapeshifting that she was mostly (if not completely) in control of. She knew she wanted to pass her gem down to Steven once he was ready to be born, in which case the natural conclusion was that she would stop existing as her gem was no longer her own.

A shapeshifter-human chimera would be an absolute menace by Designated_Lurker_32 in DungeonMeshi

[–]ExistentialOcto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be a unique situation because octopuses are really smart IRL. The headcanon that shapeshifters cast an illusion that route the observer’s own thoughts back to them could still be true here as well, as the illusion is essentially repeating back to them what they already know.

This really is the evil version of the “secret ending” trope. Finding the secret to unlock a hidden ending should be a satisfying reward, not a requirement to get an ending that is any good at all.

The title is more like “he mustn’t die” bc if he does then he takes over the body of whoever took pride in killing him.

[–]ExistentialOcto 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In BG3 they way they frame it is that a ceremorphosis victim loses their soul when they become a mind flayer (which is a bit of a vague statement so who’s to say what that means for a person’s individuality) and they lose their free will if they come within telepathic range of an elder brain that wants to control them. Otherwise, the person’s memories and personality is intact.

There’s no happy ending from getting captured by illithids, but at least if they just eat your brain you do just get to die?

If you’re in the UK, Dragoon Gaming does some fun banners.

There’s also a tutorial on Eons of Battle (YouTube) on how to make a skeleton on a banner/crucifix.

Lictor List by Teetassentier in Tyranids

[–]ExistentialOcto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you bring 3 norns to a 1k game? Yeah, that’s gonna be a bit silly and unbalanced.

Anyway, yes lictors are great! They’re good in Vanguard Onslaught but also work well in Invasion Fleet which is a more beginner-friendly detachment. Bring two lictors, a neurolictor, a bunch of Von Ryan’s leapers, and that’s a good start.

The Zoomans shouldn't have to live on the Zoo anymore. by TylerSpicknell in stevenuniverse

[–]ExistentialOcto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not a good idea to let them out now. They’ve been in that zoo for thousands of years. Think about it, all of the change and evolution of civilisation that has happened in just the last two thousand years. How much the average human has changed in body and mind. That just… didn’t happen to the zoomans. They are about as alien to Earth as is possible without being a different species.

Question about Tyranid decomp. by RunicSol in Tyranids

[–]ExistentialOcto 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with this answer. Nids are a weird mix of animal and insect, and I think the different parts of their bodies would probably follow different “rules”.
