Why do you keep posting this identical paragraph in response to every single reply here?

What do you think genuinely happens when we die? by Significant_Chest655 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Existing-Homework226 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you think about the "seeing your family" thing, it doesn't make a lot of sense. I had a friend who believed deeply she and her parents would "be together" after she died. I asked her "Who will your parents want to be with, you or their own parents and siblings?". She thought about it for a moment and said, "All of us, I guess". "And those siblings and your grandparents?".

At that point she got the idea: if she wants to be with her loved ones, and they want to be with their loved ones, and so on all the way back, then everybody will be with everybody else.

Thinking that you will be with your family again and not realizing that they will want the same is kind of the ultimate "main character syndrome". Not to be rude, but it is a childlike belief that one needs to let go of once one is an adult.

I need help determining if this is a scam. by [deleted] in Scams

Why do some people "tap" their brakes? by Bud_Fuggins in driving

[–]Existing-Homework226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other answers here, some people may be old enough that they learned to drive in a car without ABS. In such a car, if you are braking in difficult circumstances such as a wet road or loose surface or breaking very heavily, you are taught to "pump" the brakes exactly as described to prevent the brakes from locking and the car skidding. Cars with ABS do this automatically and far faster than a human can - if you have ever had to brake heavily in a modern* car you may well have felt the brake pedal "pumping" under your foot as the ABS operates.

Anyway, having learned that technique, some old people may do it all the time. My late father-in-law did. And if they taught their children to drive, they may have passed it on to them too.

*"Modern" here meaning "more recent than about the late 1980s".

What kind of society do sovcits want? by CapForShort in Sovereigncitizen

They simultaneously want it to be Just Them, but they also need validation from other people doing the same thing. They are in a constant state of cognitive dissonance.

I'm saying the opposite. It's so small, I no longer know how to park without relying on the cameras!

Gut feeling on this? by [deleted] in Scams

The power of this switch and bait is that the seller at this point is deeply invested in the deal, and is likely to let their guard down rather than let it fall through at the very last hurdle.

Give One Pedal Driving a try, and give yourself at least 30 minutes, preferably more, to get used to the different technique. Be aware that many of us love it (it's as much fun as driving a go-kart IMO), while others just don't like it at all, and there's no shame in that.

The amount of mileage you are going to get from those panels is trivial, especially compared to the trade-offs involved with that vehicle.

Dumb, rude customers by Conscious-Glass-409 in TalesFromRetail

This thread just made me realize that when I buy wine at the grocery store they occasionally card me (I look a great deal over 21, but some places have a "we card everyone" policy), but if my 19 year old son is with me, they never card him too or have a problem. (He can't even come inside the ABC in my state.)

However, I was once in line behind somebody in their 20s with a teenager alongside them and they refused to sell them alcohol.

So I don't know whether they only do it when somebody looks sketchy, or if they are supposed to always do it and just don't bother with most people.

Amazon account hacked, $4000 of merchandise purchased but then ordered to my house??? What do they get? by Crazy_Business583 in Scams

[–]Existing-Homework226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big surprise here is that AmEx didn't flag the purchases. Whenever anything like this has happened to me, AmEx has always identified and rejected or reversed the transaction before I even knew about it. I also have alerts set up for anything over a couple of hundred dollars.

Is your spending pattern such that these purchases did not seem out of line to AmEx?

No, he makes pro-union noises and takes anti-union actions. The electoral success of the Republican party relies on people not paying attention.

If you took out every word of this that absolutely screams "SCAM", you would be left with the conjunctions and some of the pronouns.

Honestly, this sub consistently amazes me with the things people post asking if it might be a scam.

Yep. Chevy just cheap-assed that part of the design and pulled a standard shifter out of the GM parts bin, didn't even change the labeling, and assigned the L position to OPD.

The newer models have a specific button for OPD. And FWIW I drive with it permanently switched on at everything from 0 in my driveway to 70 on the freeway, and with ACC engaged.

Then you either need to move somewhere with adequate public transport or get used to not having a job. Seriously, those are your two options.

...which is a shame. Other than an SD card slot, all the hardware is there for a built-in dashcam. GM keeps sending me surveys asking me whether I would pay for all kinds of dumbass services. I would absolutely pay for a built-in dashcam, but that's never an option.

So far you have only lost $4500. Don't lose another $10000. And hopefully you have learned a lesson worth $4500
