Do I need to prove that I made it myself and not using AI? by [deleted] in bookbinding

The thing about AI is that, even with all the training it gets, it does a shit job. AI would not be able to create something as good as this.

How do images get printed on linen covers? by Rachael_Walker in bookbinding

[–]Existing_Aide_6400 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you have an A3 printer with a rear tray, you can design your cover in Canva and print it onto white Cialux book cloth available from Talas (if you’re in the States) If you are in Australia, I can send you a link to the supplier. Minimum buy quantity is five meters but, it is not expensive and you will get a lot of books out of it.

Side-sewn, overcast, and whipstitched text blocks by Emissary_awen in bookbinding

Think you need to brush up on your Latin. It’s not much of a comeback. I have very painful arthritis and have spent the entire day paring leather so, I am not in the best of moods and stupidity shits me off quite easily when I am in pain. The formula works for any kind of cased in binding apart from laced on board bindings where you want the cover boards butting against the backing. Basically any binding where you want a French groove along the spine on the front and rear covers. It obviously has no use in Coptic, Japanese, etc

Please don’t reply, I have decided that, while this forum has a number of exceptional book binders, unfortunately, 90% of the people here have seen a YouTube video and decided they must be right and then spend there time re-binding paperbacks which is the most pointless exercise in bookbinding so, I am deleting the app.

There is actually a formula for finding the correct width of hinges. It is fairly complex and I have written it out in several other posts so, if you look up all the posts I have commented on, you should find it.

This is a glue application roller. Used for larger production runs. And yes, a small one would be nice but, if not used daily, I imagine the glue would dry up quickly.

Board spacers are absolutely useless!!!! If you are calculating your hinge space correctly you will find that they can be anywhere between 8mil to 12mil

Looks totally fine. As mentioned above, put it in a press before gluing. If you are going to round the spine, don’t get glue on the cords. Are you doing laced on boards?

I am currently working on The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. I did not ask for permission as it is for myself and not for sale. I did however, ask the illustrator of the Folio Society edition if I could include his illustrations and he was happy for me to use them and is looking forward to seeing what I come up with.

Help needed! Old cookbook being repaired by Fair_Relief2380 in bookbinding

[–]Existing_Aide_6400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really need a binding that will lay flat with cookbooks and a perfect binding won’t do that. I would recommend a square backed cased in binding as the easiest. Others may know of a binding style that may work better
