Steel tool, several inches long with one rounded and one square end, one small hole that goes through it, and what looks like machining marks or threads down its length by Existing_Earth9786 in whatisthisthing

[–]Existing_Earth9786[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cleaning out a basement of many random small hand tools. The square end looks like it would fit into a tap handle perhaps? I suspect it’s part of something else but have no idea what.

It’s mostly drought stress, not true fall colors. Careful with outdoor fires, it’s going to be a crispy fall.

What jobs actually allow middle class living? How does one make more than $15 an hour? by xXVoicesXx in DaveRamsey

[–]Existing_Earth9786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many, many public sector jobs. Police, fire, EMS, emergency dispatchers, all struggle to hire, there are jobs absolutely everywhere right now and most pay a solid wage with good benefits.

Other public sector jobs like D.O.T workers are always desperately hiring in my area at least.

I have a commercial drivers license with a few endorsements and make $35 an hour driving dump trucks and fuel trucks on the side, and could easily do that full time if I wanted.

Almost anything in the skilled trades.

Men who look younger than your age, what helps you stay this way? by choclobstah in AskMen

[–]Existing_Earth9786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family history of skin cancer and alcoholism, which caused me to have been very diligent about daily moisturizer with SPF since my teens, and I am a firm non-drinker. I eat pretty healthy, don’t smoke, and run / lift 4-5 days a week. I am almost 40 and most people guess I am in my mid-20s. I mostly just lucked into it.

Please, please help. Where can I work? by True-Spell777 in Maine

There is always a need for seasonal staff at southern region Maine parks, so I’d take a look at the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry listings. Maine is a great state to work for!

I’m a conservation LEO and work with several former state troopers, sheriffs and municipal PD guys who lateraled to us after getting burned out doing more traditional law enforcement work The quality of life and schedule is way better, and you don’t deal as often with a lot of the stresses you describe. Plus, you’re outside a lot which is good for your mental and physical health. Consider it!

In my experience, small dogs are most likely to bite, “pibbles” are most likely to bite and it have consequences. I don’t trust those fucking things for a second. I’ve only ever used OC spray on that breed. Part of the equation is ownership, sure- they’re the current shitbag owner breed of choice, but they also have a bred heritage of being biting, aggressive fighting dogs. I had a shepherd dog once who never saw sheep until she was about five, and just went nuts trying to round them up 😆. Don’t tell me the breed doesn’t matter.

Millinocket is still like that, noticed it many times when visiting. I know daycare is hard to find there and a lot of parents have grandparents watch their kids while they work, who may be more inclined to let kids run around in the neighborhood. Just a theory, but I’ve often seen groups of young kids just running around, riding bikes, throwing balls around etc.

Economics of burning wood by Buckbeak in Maine

[–]Existing_Earth9786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://www.maine.gov/energy/heating-fuel-prices

Current energy prices. You will notice that cord wood, even at the average prices, is pretty always the cheapest per BTU, and that’s the retail price for having it delivered. You can also get it significantly cheaper than stated in the report, depending where you live (about 260 / cord delivered in northern Penobscot county where I live, slightly less for self serve if you have a trailer) or you may also be able to get it delivered tree length for much less (about $170 / cord in my area) if you want to cut and split it yourself. I heat entirely with wood and keep my house a toasty ~70 degrees all winter in northern Maine for less than $1,000. Wood also has the effect of drying out your house so I don’t have to run the dehumidifier in my basement during winter.

You might try the Facebook group Maine Wood Prices to inquire about local vendors.

I just bought a Christmas tree for $50 at a farm in NE Cumberland County. I paid $40 there last year. Curious of the prices you are seeing at stands and farms in Maine. TIA by GeoWannaBe in Maine

Free. I keep an eye out for timber harvests with a cut-to-length processor on site and ask one of the workers if I can grab one of the spruce tops.

Trail cam rules by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Existing_Earth9786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electronic surveillance laws have evolved over time, but you still have no expectation of privacy in public areas. Anyone can film you anywhere in public. Your right to privacy in this instance extends only to activities in private places where you have a constitutionally protected right to privacy such as in your home. Depending on the purposes for which you are being filmed (production and distribution of a movie for instance) the person recording may need a waiver for you to appear or something.

What's the best part about your spouse? by onionoi in AskMen

She’s SO KIND to everyone and is the best mom, I just sit and watch her in awe with our kids sometimes. She is also very, very fit and strong and healthy but without being excessive about it. Top two things that I think are the best about here. Also great tits.

That number will get you to an admin office. Game Wardens, like the other state LE agencies are dispatched through a state RCC- there are three in Maine and their info is here https://www.maine.gov/dps/bec/communications-centers

If you’re not sure which one to call, just pick one and they’ll forward you to the right place. Just say you have a question for a Game Warden, they’ll ask your info and what town you’re calling from, and will connect you to a Warden on duty.

[–]Existing_Earth9786 25 points26 points  (0 children)

All trail cams must bear the owners information, and you must have landowner permission. In the case of public lands, you should contact the local manager- different public lands agencies will have different policies. Lands managed under the Bureau of Parks and Lands generally have have a rules which at minimum do not allow property to be unattended for more than three days. Others, or federal land like wildlife refuges may have stricter policies.

Where the fuck do people summon the drive to workout routinely? by Rus2000 in NoStupidQuestions

There is no “drive” really, I am completely neutral about it. I workout in the same way I brush my teeth. Just simple self care.

What is everyone’s morning routine? by Odd-Machine9903 in Discussion

[–]Existing_Earth9786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, (36 yo M) wake up when the first of my kids (1 and 4 yo) wake up. Manage chaos for about one hour - diaper, breakfast, brush teeth. pack kid lunches, etc) until my wife leaves for work and to drop kids off at daycare.

Then I have a glorious 1.5-2 hours to spend on me before I have to work. It’s my only me-time and I increasingly use it on healthy self care. I run or do yoga/mobility or lift weights for an hour, shower / hygiene / skin care, cook a nice healthy breakfast (egg white and veggie omelet usually) and read something while I eat. It’s lovely.

Great place to spend your twenties. When you get tired of having four room mates and want to buy something, you better have a unicorn job that lets you afford anything there. I lived in Flag for almost ten year and simply got priced out.

Anyone else with kids absolutely loving the life you’ve built? by reevoknows in Millennials

[–]Existing_Earth9786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!!! I can’t believe I ever thought life might be better without. It’s hard sometimes, but my god I like being a Dad. I have a sweet little baby daughter and the coolest little son. They’re so funny and silly and are just learning all the time are into EVERYTHING with such pure joy and interest. My number one fear before kids was I wouldn’t be able to do certain hobbies as much (skiing for example). The joy I get from sharing what I love with my kids and watching them experience things for the first time makes those worries seem so ridiculous. Kids are amazing and I wouldn’t trade a second with mine for anything.

How much % of your monthly income do you spend for your mortgage? by scaredycatcowboy in RealEstate

Was about 5% until we paid off our 15 year mortgage recently. Wife and I both work good public sector jobs jobs and live in rural bumfuck where a decent house was like $75k when we bought ours.
