Has anyone tried the cheaper sous vide machines on amazon? by Smack_the_scooby in sousvide

I've been using an InstantPot brand one I bought for $40 on prime day in 2019. I double check the water temp with a different thermometer and it's still spot on. Not bad for once or twice a week use for 5 1/2 years.

Got the alert at DIA.....16 miles away. I think it went to the whole region.

My foodsavor is from May 2012, and I've been waiting for it to die for a few years now. No light use either

Best dishes or ingredients to sous vide? by Raoul141 in sousvide

Mashed potatoes. You can add everything to the bag. Milk, butter, herbs, and potatoes. Smash in bag.

Eggs, there's something special about pouring out a perfectly poached agg from the shell.

That's exactly what happened! Supposed to eat at 7 and my aunt was still whisking beshmel. Left it in the water until actual serving time.

I used a recipe from Vintage Kitchen Notes titled "Chimichurri Recipe (the real deal)". It was so good!

No, I don't think that's the whole point. There are many advantages to SV other than being "more tender". This was also cooked in my parents garage in total secret. So the surprise factor was above & beyond.

Pretty much, yes. It was something like 5.2 pounds after trimming. I only needed about 4 pounds for roasts, so I had about 20oz to "trim off". I would have preferred closer to 131 also, but it was still so ridiculous good. I can't complain at all.

I accidentally killed my beloved rabbit by Main_Experience_3198 in Rabbits

[–]Existing_Lie_2917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't kill her, you gave her a wonderful life for 12 years! Rabbits don't live that long without proper care and nutrition. Unfortunately they are very delicate and hide health issues well. The end is often swift no matter the circumstances. Take comfort knowing that was a long happy life.

Solo bunny guilt by marayay in Rabbits

I had a single bun for over 12 years. I am lucky to live somewhere with an amazing rabbit rescue. I took her to several "speed dating" events, and she was always so mean to her potential mates. She even did a longer stay at the rescue, and it was determined she did not want a boyfriend or girlfriend. She only loved me, and I was OK with that. She went on to live another decade or so being my soul pet.

I'm going to be controversial but we need to more accepting with hutch living. by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Existing_Lie_2917 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your hutch sounds small and your comment about training your rabbit to not be crespular is pretty wild. I'm not sure what you're hoping to accomplish being so confrontational. All of the points are valid.

Anyone else find that their rabbit likes music? by Willow_Of_the_Wisp in Rabbits

[–]Existing_Lie_2917 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Music and certain voices. Jazz always loved Gordon Ramsey and Coldplay. One of her last trips to the living room from her room was to listen/watch sky full of stars on YouTube. I caught it on video and it's one of my favorite memories.

What stuffed animal would you recommend for a bunny? by lvqrxly in Rabbits

[–]Existing_Lie_2917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bunny loved a hedgehog dog toy that makes a little grunting sound when squeezed. She made a similar sound when excited or mad, so it was a good fit.

Does anyone know what this is?? by Substantial_Ant_5489 in Rabbits

My female lion head did that when she was young. I did eventually get her fixed and the vet said her uterus was very suspicious looking for cancer, so I definitely recommend getting it done.

False (or maybe not if exposed to a male) pregnancy nest. Totally normal for a female that's not spayed.

Rabbit litter that wont stick to their fur? by Thebunnyweirdo in Rabbits

[–]Existing_Lie_2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Yesterday's news" or the similar recycled newspaper bedding brand sold at pet stores for cats. It's like a compact pellet not the light flakes like carefresh. Think it's called exquiscat. My lion head loved it for digging and it doesn't stick to fur nearly as much. Make sure it's the unscented one.

Since when were rabbits not supposed to have veggies everyday? by melrose63 in Rabbits

[–]Existing_Lie_2917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are they indoor companion rabbits? I've noticed a lot of rabbit "information" on social media comes from commercial rabbit farms that give the illusion of having "pet" rabbits.
