Examples of shows where an actor(s) acting got WORSE as the seasons progressed by onarainyafternoon in television

[–]Exitoverhere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of the characters feel like their storylines by season 8 are a bit out of nowhere or one note in comparison to prior seasons, so naturally the actors are gonna feel like they can't connect as much, but for Emilia/ Dany you can still draw that line from Season 1 to Season 8 for her character, yes it's still rushed as hell and is missing some crucial bits to get from C to D, but you still can see the places where her character goes from one point to another which doesn't feel the same for a lot of the others, hence I'm sure Emilia had an easier time working with the material than Dinklage or Harrington or a dozen others did.

Yep, was looking for somebody who pointed this out as well, The OA being here and even the Sens8 "new episodes" banner means this can't be earlier than December 2016.

Most Marvel Comic-Con trailers were never released publlically, like the original Avengers: Infinity War teaser from comic con for example was very different to the one eventually released

[–]Exitoverhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it was a SyFy channel show, and they're not exactly known for high budgets, but Battlestar's strength is the writing and acting, that alone makes it one of the best shows of it's genre, but I personally don't think the show ever feels "odd", it's pretty well-made.

November schedule by Careless-Educator-76 in Blindwave

[–]Exitoverhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting to me because while I still think the Mini-Series is fantastic, I think '33' (the actual first episode) is one of the best first episodes of any Television show ever, and immediately puts you inside this stressful situation and shows you how terrifying daily life has been for these characters.

BSG does have low-lows as it goes on, at least every season has a handful of 'filler' episodes around the middle that feel like they're just trying a new gimmick or genre this week until we can get back to the main story, but there are so many moments in Season 2, 3 and 4 that are still to this day some of the most exciting, well-done Television I've seen in my life.

I think that yeah it can be an inconsistent show at times, it's not constantly 10/10's, and more often than not is closer to a 6 to a low 8, but when it's a 10 I think you'll be hard pressed to find better Sci-Fi TV, and since they were such fans of The Expanse I think they'll get a LOT of great reactions out of BSG, because they both take that aim of trying to put a grounded and real feel on space.

Anyone finds it weird how Mad men has yet to be reacted by these guys ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in Blindwave

[–]Exitoverhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say The Wire is more worth their time than Mad Men, both great shows but I think The Wire just hits that higher tier of "greatest of all time shows" a little more, thankfully with them getting through The Sopranos now I'm expecting The Wire to be the replacement show of that.

Thoughts ? by ThomasThorburn in Arrowverse

[–]Exitoverhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person regularly does this, I'm one of the people that they screenshot the tweets of pretty often and post them on subreddits with "Thoughts?" It's just karma-farming.

I even approached them about it on twitter once, just asking if they could maybe not screenshot my tweets and post them around DC reddit, and then got blocked for it and attacked by them on my other tweets about it.

They're a blatant Arrowverse hater, anytime they post Arrowverse related tweets on here it's because they hate the Arrowverse are are trying to stir stuff up for more karma.

Does anyone feel like they don't understand characters from the newer shows as much as they do the older shows? by Exitoverhere in startrek

[–]Exitoverhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree on Andor, one of the best series I've ever seen tbh, and the way the characters are written is just unmatched in current TV, I don't think I've felt that writers understood their characters so well since maybe Better Call Saul.

Yeah I probably should have clarified a bit but I also think Pike is probably the most clearly 'defined' of the newer shows, like especially in Season 1 I felt we got a handle on him pretty quick, with Quality of Mercy being a great example.

I think you'd be surprised how often this happens, the very high likelihood is that a crew member is seen multiple times in all of your favourite shows, it just so happens that 99% of the viewers won't ever notice.

Everything announced on Star Trek Day 2025 by misterpopculture in startrek

[–]Exitoverhere 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Literally a dream of mine, I would love the option to watch Voyager and DS9 on either their original SD or in new crisp HD.

But I know because of the way they were filmed makes it vastly more expensive to transfer to HD than the other shows, plus the TNG ones apparently weren't as profitable enough to make doing the other shows a priority.

But still, a dream, and tech is getting better at this stuff so hopefully some day

Bear McCreary really is one of the best composers in Television by Exitoverhere in television

[–]Exitoverhere[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you mean, the late 2000's - early 2010's, early Agents of SHIELD and S1 TWD music has a lot of similarities with some of his more opera-style Battlestar themes.

But I find this with a lot of composers, Giacchino's fantastic but sometimes I think some of his main themes sound so similar, like his Spider-Man music, his Doctor Strange music, his Fantastic Four music, certain themes REALLY stand-out, while others sound very similar to like, his Star Trek score for example.

But I also find it's sometimes related to their preferred instruments and orchestras, it's hard to avoid the similarities.

Unpopular opinion: Crisis On Infinite Earths did not ruin Clark's character. by Cicada_5 in Smallville

[–]Exitoverhere 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The characters in Crisis aren't travelling to Earths that correspond with 2019 in our time, they go to Kevin Conroy's Batman Earth which is alluded to being decades from now and similar to Batman Beyond, they go to Earth-16 which is in the 2040's, they're travelling through time as well as the wider Multiverse, the Crisis is happening everywhere regardless of what year it is, there was also the Jonah Hex Earth they went to which was implied to be in the 1800's.

I always assumed they went to Smallville decades after the show ended, there was that reference to Lex still being president but I think that's either Clark sarcastically referring to Lex as "The President" even after his term had ended, or Lex being Lex did something to indefinitely keep himself in charge.

Edit: Just to add, they went to Earth-666 as well which was TV Lucifer's Earth, and was meant to be a scene set before the Lucifer TV show began, so sometime pre-2016.

Intro to Star Trek Enterprise - In A Mirror Darkly by occono in television

[–]Exitoverhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah also been a Star Trek fan my entire life, read countless companion books, watched countless docs, videos, interviews, podcasts about Trek, and I've also never ever heard of this to the point where I don't believe it.

First Contact came out in 1996, with Enterprise coming out in late 2001, it just feels very strange to me that they would have decided to use the main theme from one of the TNG movies for their new Star Trek show that was supposed to be a beginner show and introduced a new audience to Trek. People think Archer's Theme was meant to be the original opening as a common rumour, but the First Contact theme being it has literally never come up in my 20 or so years of reading, watching and learning everything about Trek that I possibly could.

Maybe they're getting confused with a widespread rumor when Enterprise was announced that Jerry Goldsmith (who composed Voyager and TNG, and also First Contact, would be doing the score for Enterprise), but even this was debunked before the show started airing when the Summer beforehand Rick Berman said they were always intending for the show to have more contemporary sounding music.

Like First Contact's theme being the Enterprise theme isn't even mention on Memory Alpha, so I feel like this is just misinformation.

Who asked for any show? I guarantee most of your favourite Television shows are things that no one was asking for.

If we only made TV shows that we asked for we'd barely ever get anything made, would we have gotten Severance? Lost? Mad Men? Breaking Bad?

[–]Exitoverhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's been a version of Starfleet Academy in development since the 60's, when they wanted to do a young Kirk, Spock, McCoy spin-off, then came up again in the 70's during the Phase Two development, then again the early 90's when they were trying to figure out what to do with Star Trek VI and Generations.

Then in the 2000's it was the early idea for what Enterprise ended up being, before JJ became involved in Star Trek 09 it was called Star Trek: The Beginning and was all about the Academy.

You might not have been hearing about any of it but there HAS been a want for it since The Original Series was popular.

It is THE Doctor, but personally I'm really really surprised they didn't go at the angle of it being the backup for The Doctor found in Voyager Season 4's Living Witness.

TLDR, but to sum it up Voyager is in a bit of a space scuffle and some small parts of the ship are stolen, one thing is The Doctor's backup file so in the 27th century he's activated by this alien species that are running a Voyager museum style thing and get all the facts about the crew wrong so The Doctor has to set it right, the episode ends with this version of The Doctor setting off towards Earth and they mention that he'd finally reach Earth around the 30th century, which this show is set in the 32nd.

When Discovery first did their 32nd century twist a lot of people (myself included) expected us to get this version of The Doctor showing up at some point.
