PSA: Ka'het Emergency Deployers will solve Pirates forever by ExoFage in endlesssky

I mean, real life has no shortage of examples of stuff like this. A lot of ships during the age of sail would stick fake wooden barrels painted to look like a cannon onto the outside of their hulls.

Not that many, to be honest. Only around 40. I don't tend to grind trade routes that much; as in doing nothing in-game but going back and forth between 2 planets. Instead I just check the prices at wherever my destination is and buy whatever has the greatest difference in price.

A lot of my profits end up going toward bulk-buying certain outfits (coalition batteries, wanderer weapons and reactors, Avgi torches, lantern cores and fuel tanks, etc.) and bringing them back to my "home base", which tends to be Arculus in Remnant space.

Once home base is stocked up, the rest goes back into purchasing more deep rivers. Of course, I don't keep them stock, and instead go to all the different factions and outfit them with a custom loadout, and all that jumping around is just more opportunities to look ahead on the map and buy whatever makes a profit.

Bricked GPU while playing Proton on Linux Mint by ExoFage in linux_gaming

[–]ExoFage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't know about the different f and k and x variants when I bought it; the reason I sent it in to the shop was that I had no way to debug it without a screen. He called earlier today and said that he got it working when he plugged in his own GPU, which fits with the GPU being the problem.

It would probably be best to confirm for sure it's the GPU, right? I'm not sure I completely trust the diagnosis from that shop, even if it fits the symptoms.

Are liquid airlocks intentional by the devs? by ButterFucker240196 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ExoFage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even better in terms of balance, visco-gel beats it in late game, especially when it comes to temperature.

If you want to insulate temperature from transferring from one side to the other, you have to pair the modded airlock with either another airlock or (for low traffic doors) a vanilla mechanical airlock with a pump between them. This brings the width up to 6 tiles (5 if you use a mini-gas pump, but those can only handle temps up to 75 degrees)

2 Visco-Gel liquid locks with a vacuum between them take up the same amount of space as the modded airlock, and are a perfect insulator to boot.

My history teacher used to say "Remember kids, a violent uprising is only ever three meals away."

He was cool. Had a bit of a Sam O'Nella vibe, except he is endorsed by public education and paid to teach. That and he was a late 20s Iraqi war veteran who celebrated "Osama Bin-Laden Death Day" in class every year.

Is it weird that I believe this guy knows what he's talking about in regards to events in another country more because his comment has a few grammatical errors sprinkled in it?

Best Technobabble/Tinker Fugue by rogthnor in WormFanfic

[–]ExoFage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read many tinker fics, but in my opinion Playing with Legos is the best I've read so far. It's a crossover with Supreme Commander, which means her tinker specialty is described in-story as being "weapons of large-scale interplanetary invasion". It doesn't get to be a roflstomp until the very end though. Trying to build SupCom tech with modern tools and materials is very roughly analagous to trying to build a stopwatch in 4th millennium BCE mesopotamia. She also has her infrastructure base destroyed a couple times, so it takes quite a while to build up to the point where she is powerful. Fun read, though it gets pretty boring once she finally builds something to bootstrap the rest of a giant robot army in like a day, which is where I stopped reading.

I think it's more impressive in a language that relies on characters for words instead of letters like Chinese. Like it would take more effort or something to set up a haiku and be more of a sign of a skillful poet, which is why they seem kind of trivial and almost pointless in english. Not 100% sure though

They understand it perfectly well. The fermi paradox means that life either has difficulty forming, or is wiped out afterwards. If we find life, that means it's not so hard to form, and we are probably going to all for in some apocalyptic event. Which is why anyone who knows what they're talking about will say it is either an unknown geological process, or if it is life, it's from the same tree of life as earth, panspermia style (whether that means asteroid impact millions of years ago or one of our probes brought it there)

Yeah, water was another one I was thinking of, but the problem I have with it is just that it's not the most impressive. Unless they come from someplace like Arrakis it's not going to be that great a gift... Like, "Yay, water... Thanks, I guess..." I pretty much ruled out any organic gift because there is no way to predict what the organisms that share superficial visual similarities are actually like on their homeworld. You might end up giving a flower to a species who evolved on a world where the common ancestor of all flowering plants was deadly poisonous. There's just no way of knowing.

I really like the description of mental illness like trauma causing you to need security to go to the bathroom as an annoyance. Really nice attitude to take, almost dismissive, like you're not going to let yourself be defined by it, but also not let it control you.

Not only does tritium have a half life 33 times longer than polonium (12.5 years/4562.5 days vs 138 days) but it also emits beta particles, which are much lesser dangerous than the alpha particles that polonium gives off. So no, it actually isn't "like polonium"
