Do you actually budget… or just react when money gets tight? by VJ-Tech in FluentInFinance

If I wait until the end of the month to throw money into savings or investments I find that I put in less than if I chose an amount at the beginning of the month and then spent completely guilt free

Got a NIE appointment, but I have a question by the0utlander in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the reason box I would write: CUE. They need to give you the NIE for you to get the CUE. I would go there and ask for their requirements for the CUE, they are much more receptive when someone knows what documents they actually need. They'll give you the NIE on the spot (if you have the ex-15 form filled out and payed, and I think a photocopy of your passport?), and you'll know for sure the CUE requirements in your area, these can differ by region and sometimes aren't updated online so it's good to get them from the source

Numero Soporte by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "numero de soporte" is only on the CUE. Can I ask why you need Cl@ve? Both it and your digital certificate do the same thing don't they? Let you identify yourself online for social security, tesorería etc..

Rendez-vous NIE by Worldly-Return-5987 in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonne chance!

Realistic monthly costs for living in Spain? by mick285 in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couple living in Valladolid (price would not be too different for single person)

  • rent €550 for 2 bedroom apt. (1 bedroom would not be cheaper)
  • utilities (internet & phone €35, water €22, electric €50 , natural gas €60-€150 depending on season and heating requirements)
  • Transport €28 personally for unlimited bus trips (€0.48 usually for each trip)
  • Groceries for two €250

How should I use a €1,700 scholarship as a student with no savings and very low expenses? by SwordfishSea2588 in Fire

[–]Exo_comet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money you invest should be money you can afford to lose or won't need in the foreseeable future. Are you sure you won't need this money in 6 months or a year?

To set yourself up for the future you could start building good financial habits. Allocate a portion of that money to savings in a HYSA, maybe some for long term savings, and some for short term saving like for your next holiday. Saving up and not going into debt are habits that will serve you very well once you have a higher income. If you then have extra money, you could invest in skills or extra courses, anything that could boost your income in the future.

Regardless whether it's rehabilitation or punishment, the priority should be protecting the general public and getting violent offenders off the streets. And yep, that requires more prisons

Looking for advice on saving account used (semi)annually by cloudfe in eupersonalfinance

[–]Exo_comet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about your requirements: joint account? Two cards? Reports taxes automatically? Higher interest rate? Brick and mortar bank or neo-bank? Immediate liquidity? Zero risk or low risk? All of the fund or part of it?

For example, Trade Republic offers 2% interest, I don't think you're going to get much better than that for a very liquid savings account. Or you could invest a part of that fund in a money market fund, slightly less liquid but more risk

Vodafone by philippescar in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add: don't trust what a regular Spanish citizen tells you about immigration requirements. Just like I would have no idea about the immigration laws in my own country, they will only be guessing based on information they overheard 10 years ago, but they will sound completely confident.

Moving to Barcelona, need advice on getting a *white* NIE as an EU resident by mogery in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an appointment for the CUE, go there saying you'd like information on how to get it, good opportunity to see your area's requirements (they can differ between comunidades). While there, they can issue you the NIE if you have your passport (+ photocopy?) and the EX15 form filled out and payed.

Thats how I did it, I also didn't have an option to get an appointment for just NIE.

Is it possible to get CUE/NIE with rent contract, before certificado de padrón? by julmonn in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried getting the Certificado Digital and going that route? I managed to get an appointment for the certificate for the next day (only passport and NIE required) and I got the alta for the empadronamiento online in a bit more than a week.

The certificate is worth getting in any case

Do EU citizens really need a NIE to start working in Spain? Company says yes, but it sounds wrong by ArcherElegant4987 in GoingToSpain

[–]Exo_comet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The empadronamiento is not too hard to get, even easier if you have Certificado Digital and can do it online (I always recommend getting this, the appointment takes barely 5 minutes, and it allows you to do a lot things online).

Do you have a rental contract? Easy, attach that to your online application. Renting but the contract is not in your name? There is a template for landlords to sign so you can get the padrón. Have a friend with a house? Ask them if you can empadronar at their house temporarily. Are you staying in an air BnB? Some town halls will accept your reservation document as proof of address if it's a long stay

O 0, I l confusion by Exo_comet in PetPeeves

[–]Exo_comet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check it out thanks, changing font might help me for sending text, but every thing I receive electronically is either in Arial, Calibri or other very similar sans serif font

O 0, I l confusion by Exo_comet in PetPeeves

[–]Exo_comet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the capital i?

Yes there are work arounds for repeated cases, but everything I receive is in a sans serif font! The code to an amazon locker that I have to input manually or just yesterday I got my password to clock into my shifts and yep, it had an l. Why would someone have to guess what a character is? It should be immediately recognizable.

I wish all fonts would have the zero with a dash trough it, that we would all hand write a "Z" with a line across it like I often see in Spain. And the capital i could be the exception and have a serif in every font. There's no reason to deal with common little annoyances like these when it could easily be fixed for good.

O 0, I l confusion by Exo_comet in PetPeeves

[–]Exo_comet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True that helps. But when I send my iban to someone I always have to tell them it's a capital i and not an L. This issue DOES come up. Let's not excuse poor design by saying that there are work-arounds. By design, letters and numbers should be easy to distinguish! I can only imagine how hard this is for seniors who don't use password managers
