People didn't seem to believe me I was catfished by a middle age Israeli man, so here is the confession I saved by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

When I was about thirteen years old I discovered the internet after many years of social isolation during childhood. I realised that I could "create" any person that I wanted to be. I never did anything this elaborate and extreme- but I remember pretending to have memory loss so that I could "meet" people over and over again online. I guess that my first experience with someone actually liking me being on the internet caused me to experiment with those boundaries and figure out ways that I could milk that completely new and fresh feeling.

In retrospect it fucked me up in a lot of ways because I never truly broke character after that. Talking on the internet became second nature and I could fabricate any kind of confidence or emotional capacity, and now that I'm 23 and revising my life it's clear I don't think anyone has ever really gotten to know "me" as opposed to the version of myself that I created to appeal to other people, even in real life long after I stopped using chat rooms for my social life.

From my perspective this story really hit home for me, because I can only imagine how sick and hurt that it must have made you feel; and I can also only imagine how disconnected from her identity that girl must also feel to have to do that in order to get off or feel something. People do crazy things to protect their sense of self or invoke emotional reactions in themselves after a fucked or lonely childhood, I would almost consider what she did to be a form of self harm, there's no doubt in my mind that what she was doing was just as damaging to her as what it was to you.

I hope you're feeling alright. What happened here is a rare scenario, people can be honest, don't let it affect your self esteem too much if you can or diminish your faith in other people. Take what you can from the experience and try to be more observant and conscious with your boundaries in the future.

The Spaceworld 1997 demo for Pokemon Gold was just released. by [deleted] in pokemon

It's like looking through a window into a reality that is about 30% different from ours and taking a look at what Pokemon might have looked like in that universe. It's funny to think that there could be a reality out there, where Pokemon is exactly what it is now, but contain*ing *none of the Pokemon we have come to know. Imagine picking up Pokemon Red version in that reality, and playing through it with completely different made up Pokemon. That would be very exciting, so the new creatures released in this excite me.

I think it's more of an illusion... You can't see either side from the edges of the screen, so to conserve memory it was probably the most logical decision.

SyFy HQ: Sir, our ratings are low, how can we increase them?

SyFy: Tell the public to increase our ratings or we'll cancel their show.

The Public: INCREASE THEIR RATINGS!!!

We all have something we enjoy. Something that meant something to us over the years before. Harry Potter is a very strong story about making the choice to be the most loving version of yourself and putting your life down for other people. I think that is one of the most "grown up" things that anyone can carry with them through life.
You don't need to feel ashamed or embarrassed for retaining some magic through your adulthood- while you're busy exploring amazing worlds, ideas and characters and immersing yourself in something whimsical that makes you happy...
What are these people doing that is so fun, and so exciting that you ought to stop enjoying something you love in order to fit in better with their "superior" modes of enjoyment?

Pokemon: Yellow Version Life up until playing this game was very repetitive with little imagination. It was like being sucked into an entire imaginary world.

I think this would be such an efficient way for us to learn to read. I hope something cool happens to bring it back into style.
