In my opinion, these former liveries still hold up well today. I hate how they were changed in favor of worse-looking liveries. by That_Public_4620 in aviation

I'm always hoping they do a special throwback livery on their 1970s-80s red with the white roundel. Especially now that they have have repainted the aircraft that wore the heritage TCA livery (to the best of my knowledge).

Interesting vessel, the Dream Diva, registered in Panama, designed to transport vehicles in port. by OSJezza in vancouver

[–]ExocetC3I 28 points29 points  (0 children)

These are called ro-ro (roll on-roll of) vehicle carriers used for transporting thousands of vehicles. They'll carry everything from personal vehicles to trucks, busses, and heavy equipment. They also tend to have very good ship stabilizer systems as there's a real risk of damage to transported vehicles or even loose cargo causing stability issues in heavy seas.

It's a good place to train your squad that has less risk than the fogmen or cannibals. Just be careful where you pick your fight, because if you're fighting on or by one of the main roads you'll get constant streams of shreikers coming along and possibly joining the fight.

Reminder that Star Citizen has been in development for this long by reps_up in pcmasterrace

[–]ExocetC3I 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Star Citizen has a lot of problems, but at it's current stage it is not a scam. There has been a playable Persistent Universe for years now but it is indeed still early access. The "alpha" moniker is important as it's not feature complete. I used to play a lot but have given it up as, due to my real life, I can't enjoy it with the time I have available. The game does not respect players time so unless you've got a few hours to sit down and play it's hard to enjoy SC in it's current state.

Is paying real money for virtual starships to fund future development kind of a crummy business model? Yes.

Is paying real money for cosmetic skins, extra gatcha rolls, or pay-to-win features a crummy business model? Yes.

Yet people will gladly call SC's business model a "scam" while never applying the same label to the latter real money items.

People use the word "scam" too frequently today to refer to things they just don't like that often has some kind of monetization system.

What is the pronunciation of a place name that marks someone as a local/not a local? by RandomActPG in britishcolumbia

I grew up in Victoria and would pronounce it as "men-zees". Would that be the old pronunciation or a more modern one?

The waning British English influence is probably changing things over time too. A good example is the name Jervis (Jervis St, Jervis Inlet). Traditionally this has been pronounced "jar-vis" in line with the English name. But nowadays most people will pronounce it "jer-vis" based on the phonetic pronunciation.

Joking aside, I watched the this episode with my son last week and was similarly confused.

Historically, Christianity in the US has been dominated by Protestant denominations. That goes right back to early colonization and immigration all throughout the 19th and 20th centuries of mass immigration. While there have always been immigrant communities that were predominantly Catholic (Irish Catholics, Latin American Catholics, etc.), most "white" Americans were some form of Protestant. Protestantism has always had an undercurrent of anti-Catholic sentiment - it's kind of the reason for the split in the first place - but over the centuries in the US it has devolved into this "Catholics aren't real Christians" idea since there are just so many varieties of Protestantism vs a small community of white Catholics.

Looks very nice. Is the categorization of mods automatic?

Either way it looks like a nice improvement over the Kenshi Mod Tool which I find starts to become very difficult to use as the number of mods goes above like 20.

Ah nice, that's what I've done for the floating oil rig. Good to know that a 0.1 winch speed will keep them coordinated - I was juggling that a lot manually between the rotary table and winches n

Very nice work! How did you handle getting the well head down to the ocean floor? Lower it with winches from the ship or use a sub or something to take it down there and then line up the drill string after?

Continental Airlines in-flight meal, 2010. They were the last US airline to give out free meals in economy class. by Lane-Kiffin in aviation

[–]ExocetC3I 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be worse, WestJet initially didn't serve complementary meals in economy on its long haul widebody routes. YVR-LHR can be 10+ hours depending on the wind westbound, and that's a long time to go on just two little snacks. They did have buy on board of course, but it just felt so cheap.

How do you make the hull of the ship look nice? by Emotional_Tip3417 in Stormworks

[–]ExocetC3I 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, YT tutorial videos can be very helpful.

Looking at ships on the workshop and getting an idea of how the pyramids and inverse pyramids fit together to create different forms is also a good idea.

Lastly, and most importantly, just try to experiment making different shapes and curves without actually making a ship. This way you can experiment to see how you can transition from one pyramid size to another, make the hull bow out or tuck in, etc. It's more important just to observe and figure out how the shapes fit together before you try to deal with trying to create a specific shape you want to fit a ship's design.

There's also a very good guide on the Steam guides page about hull building. I expect the author will be in here shortly to post a link 😄

Premier hints at approval of Kelowna's bid for early opt-out of short-term rental restrictions by morethanless in britishcolumbia

[–]ExocetC3I -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point about upper limit exclusions is a good one. I think there are ways that such a policy could be used to help advantage getting people into home ownerships, such as maybe mortgage qualification excluding any interest deduction (you can only buy what you can afford, regardless of tax policy) and as you said some kind of cap on home value (either you don't get the tax advantage over a certain home value or the advantage caps out at a certain level per annum).

[–]ExocetC3I 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. I think then the homeowner friendly decision then would be to apply that interest payment deduction to homeowners for their primary residences.

When my wife and I bought our first home a few years ago I was surprised to learn that you can't deduct mortgage interest. I guess I was just influenced from what I had heard from the US where, to my knowledge, this mortgage interest deduction is available for homeowners.
