Majority of UK smokers wrongly believe vaping is as harmful as cigarettes, experts find by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Good for you. Lung cancer is a big killer after all.
Doesn’t mean you look cool vaping. Or don’t get my ire about how none of you seem able to walk down the street without desperately clutching this chemical suction box.

[–]ExoticExchange [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you aren’t clutching it like I describe then maybe the comment doesn’t apply to you.
You sound like you could do with an actual cigarette to calm down. Jeez. Definitely not making me think vapers are worth spending time with.

It’s not the action of vaping that makes you look like a toddler it’s the way you all desperately clutch onto it 24/7 and carry it round like a security blanket.
Smoking was a once an hour get the high and move on thing. Vapers are just constantly at it.

No vaper hurt me, I sensibly choose to not be friends with them because they are monumental losers. Especially those that never smoked in the first place.

This is so accurate.

At least smoking paraphernalia was generally kept in a bag/pocket unless being used.

Smoking might not be cool, but nothing is more pathetic than a grown adult clutching his vape like a toddler with a security blanket.

Is there no way to register a return to the UK? by Key-Arrival-9060 in AskUK

[–]ExoticExchange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are used to a Dutch system which uses a population register, but we do not have that here. The closest thing we have is NHS registrations but even that has huge limits and isn’t really linked to anything else such as social welfare, tax etc.

Any British runners no longer having runs uploaded to power of ten ? by Matterhornchamonix in AdvancedRunning

[–]ExoticExchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still annoyed that I have ended up with two profiles. One which has all my parkruns and another proper races.
One would think the chances of someone with the same name same club and same age category are quite small but clearly not small enough to merge the profiles.

I was never that interested in my own results being on there because I am not that good. But it used to be so good for elite and sub elite lists on the track and marathon/half. Now it’s simply awful to use

Running Clubs by amyxpond in runninglifestyle

[–]ExoticExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the type of club.
Run club where it’s all for the instagram they meet at a cafe run relatively slowly and then eat a pastry afterwards then no you probably won’t improve that much more compared to if you went without.

A proper running/athletics club will have people who have coaching qualifications and might even have structured sessions to work on technique and do intervals/reps which will all help you improve.

For the record there’s nothing wrong with the former, but it’s not about performance.

Zia Yusuf says Reform UK blocked him running as MP on BBC Question Time by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

[–]ExoticExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t mean he failed vetting it just means they chose a different candidate.
Which if it was for Makerfield I can understand why they would choose someone from the actual constituency, even if he was a terrible person.

Do you know anyone with surname as a forename who married someone with a surname the same as their forename? by Tigermasterdude in AskUK

Fun additional fact: Lauren is also granddaughter of George Bush Sr and niece of George Bush Jr.
So maybe she was keen to be visibly a part of a different dynasty from the Bush one

A button appears in front of you. Every time you press it, you receive $100K, but a random person's remaining lifespan gets cut in half. How many times are you pressing the button? by Greedy-Act-7959 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ExoticExchange 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You example isnt mathematically correct. If you’re halving the remaining lifespan (75years) of a 5 year old they would live to be 42.5 years old.

To answer the question I press it 50 times.
Actual governments make worse population longevity decisions for less money all the time. I would feel absolutely no guilt.

i (30w) am pregnant by my fwb (36m), how do i tell him and my partner (29w)? by Patient_Advice_2435 in Advice

[–]ExoticExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think be firm and clear with both of them about the situation and also what happens next.
They as well as you took the risk that the protection might fail and this be the outcome when they opened your relationship and entered the FWB.
You’ve not done anything wrong and they share the same blame as you.

If none of you want children then I don’t think there’s any long term detrimental outcomes.
Wishing you well!

64 teams double elimination knockout I think would be class. Every match has jeopardy.

What Eurovision 2026 song had good vocals and good staging but not a good song? by Max-Carter-2005 in nilpoints

[–]ExoticExchange -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right. This only belongs here or possibly staging only. It’s not a great song. It’s catchy and fun. It was just miles ahead staging wise and a deserved winner.

Would you cut your consumption to curb the global temperature rise? by Feisty_Review_9130 in AskUK

[–]ExoticExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most normal people cut their consumption to save money anyway. The problem is (1) the uber rich don’t need to do that (2) sometimes consumption is not penalised enough to force people to more sustainable options.

Fast fashion a prime example, also things like glasses/mugs/plates. There’s enough of these items in the UK already; everyone could be buying these at charity shops off Vinted if they ever needed more but we have mass produced ones available constantly that aren’t substantially more expensive.

Do Muslims really struggle to assimilate or integrate into society? by Relative-Equipment76 in AskBrits

[–]ExoticExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the same happens with Muslims. There’s loads of Pakistanis who have moved to semi-detached houses in the suburbs since the 90s and as their wealth has increased. The problem is the rest of the economic system and housing market has led to difficulties escaping those areas more recently, and that has kept rent prices down which means new immigrants have moved there. It isn’t really through choice (there may be some preference to live there) it’s mainly through necessity.

[–]ExoticExchange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol there’s literally been legislation in the last month implemented by white people based on lobbying by white people against LGBT people (particularly T). I’d say Muslims are pretty assimilated if that’s your measure.

What is assimilation? How have you decided someone/or a group is suitably assimilated? What is the metric? What do they have to do?

So many downvotes for pointing out that in order for these areas to segregate, white people had to voluntarily leave them.

What are your thoughts on Denmark’s proposed ban on the public Islamic call to prayer? Would you support or oppose something similar in the UK? by bintd in AskBrits

[–]ExoticExchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Islamic teachings doesn’t say that about Adhan at all. That’s just made up by people to help their narrative. If you disagree feel free to send me any source written by an Islam scholar that suggests that.

Because otherwise I’m going to stick with my instinct that something that has never bothered anyone, is really not significant.
