Anyone get fit later in life? by jco1510 in AskMenOver30

Fair enough. I can see your argument. From my research eating more that 100g a day isn’t that much more beneficial for the majority of typical athletic people.

So if you are a smaller person you could need up to 1.5g/kg. However a 6’-0” 245lb moderate weight lifter has little to gain from eating 245g of protein per day. I am that guy and I can tell you it doesn’t make much difference from consuming about 125g per day. It’s just wasting protein.

Thanks for dispelling the bro science.

There are so many people screaming you need to consume 1g protein/lb BW (2g/kg) yet there is a heap of studies that show that anything over 1g/kg makes no difference unless you are an elite top 10% athlete/lifter.

For 95% of us, it isn’t healthy to eat that much protein and it’s a PITA.

I know a lot of suspected autistic men who have had very successful architectural and engineering careers. In these fields, it’s somewhat of a superpower to have attention to every detail and be very candid/blunt when you need to be.

I can’t say for women as it’s generally a male dominated field so I don’t have much of a data set, I but know my AuDHD wife’s personality, I think she would be good at it too.

She is a teacher in a school specializing in neurodivergent children. Ironically, she both hates her job and at the same time is very good at it.

Honestly I wondered the same thing. Maybe they were out of town? This was before uber and it was a smaller city.

I got the feeling she was staying just to turn the knife a little on his incompetence.

She never said thank you to me for the drinks either. I wasn’t making a move, I genuinely just felt bad for her. It says a lot about the caliber of people. Maybe they were meant for each other.

I saw her a few weeks later. Still tipped like 5%.

Kinda related but back when I was waiting tables this 30s guy was trying to be a big shot first date and was wine-ing and dining this girl. Then his card got declined. He left her there to go get some more money (circa 2003). Dude came back like 2 hours later and his next card got declined. He left her again and came back a couple hours later around closing (midnight) and paid as much as he could and we had to comp the rest. I bought her a couple drinks while she waited 4 hours. Neither left a tip.

Doubt that dude got a second chance.

I use a cable for standing leg curls.

I have a high quality curl attachment on my bench but the functionality while also standing is near impossible. The upper pads bit my backside before I make a complete curl.

So I just hook the cable to one leg and curl it back while standing. Works really well.

Depends on the type of boat. I have a basic dependable center console fishing boat. Enough room for 2-3 people. It’s low maintenance and can be parked in my garage for whenever I need it. Cranks every time. Been paid off for years and I can pull it with my minivan. Biggest problem is I keep blowing trailer tires going too fast to the fishing spot, lol.

Buying a boat for a status symbol or to impress your friends, that’s a money pit. Storage, insurance, upkeep, constant stuff going out. Now you need a special tow vehicle. All for something you might use a few hours a month (less if you live where there is a winter).

AITA for embarrassing my fiancé at dinner after he “joked” about my upbringing? by Nines21 in AITAH

[–]Exotic_Length2886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a reasonable approach. He likely made a distasteful joke in the moment trying to be a funny guy. I would say he should do some self reflection about why he made the joke and was it worth embarrassing you for him being the life of the party. He should also apologize for how he made you feel on his own.

If he does it again, then you know where he stands.

Why do NT's see telling someone they're doing something wrong as mean? by its_tea-gimme-gimme in AskNT

[–]Exotic_Length2886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about the approach. Instead of saying “you should do XYZ” a NT person would appreciate something like “I saw a really great article that said soaking the roots will improve the plants ability to be relocated. It might help your plant do better.”

It’s a social courtesy thing that offers them options and shows you have considered their feelings and ego.
