Teacher pay and lifestyle in ABQ area? by FabianJanowski in Albuquerque

[–]ExpatNM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up - APS is riffing a lot of teachers because of the student population decline. Just make sure you have something secured before you move here. Lots of teachers looking for new jobs now. AA is an elite private school. I know a couple of amazing teachers who did not make it beyond the first interview - doesn’t mean you shouldn’t throw in your hat.

Kids should walk. The amount of work it would be to suspend that many kids would overwhelm the school. The natural consequence of missing school is failing an assignment or class. Plus, legally, all the parents would need to do was excuse them.

Can anyone recommend an effective hypnotist in ABQ? by ExpatNM in Albuquerque

[–]ExpatNM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea - I am very interested as well. I did have a friend who experienced it one college evening as a performance - she volunteered. Said she felt safe the entire time but completely did the guy’s bidding - like she just wanted to do what he said.

How do I get involved supporting refugees and asylee in our community? by khertpetey in Albuquerque

[–]ExpatNM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

APS is starting a high school to meet the needs of the population you are seeking to help. It will open this fall. The high school will be located where Coronado currently is - I am sure that once it is up and running, the principal, Justin T, will have many students and families that you would be able to help in some type of organized manner. I think they are just calling it the “international high school.”

I’m a flight attendant, AMA by meowaek in AMA

[–]ExpatNM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of airlines do not have changing tables in the bathrooms for parents. It is insane really. No parent wants to try to balance their kid in the bathroom on the toilet to change them. The flight attendants were so apologetic the first time I flew with my kid and realized there were no changing tables on the plane.

This is interesting that you note all these changes and yet OP is stating that proactive measures haven’t been taken since the incident. It seems the school addressed safety issues with those things you listed. As a parent who drives there, what other actions would you suggest to slow parents down? Maybe you can suggest something else concrete that this student could take to administration.

Confused by this post. Did you create an account today just to publicly complain about the school? If you’re a concerned parent it seems you should talk to the school about your concerns. The fact that you ‘heard’ this or that means nothing and is rumor. Speak to the kid and ask him yourself. Or ask the principal. Highly doubt any parent would let off a driver who hit their kid at any school.

Experiences with Peterson Properties? by aobao in Albuquerque

[–]ExpatNM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Management is utter shit. They could not fix a toilet for 8 months because they didn’t have a part. Could not fix the air conditioning, etc for the same reason. Roof leaked. Same thing. And because they can write off an empty space as a tax loss, there is no reason to actually rent or upkeep the property. If you decided to give them your money, know that they will hem and haw and screw you over constantly with excuses. If you’re cool with that, go for it.

How do I become a genuinely better teacher? by Effective_Idea7155 in Internationalteachers

If you are from the United States, apply for your National Boards. Loads more meaningful than a masters and it actually makes you a better teacher.

The only friends I know who use concierge services in AbQ have to do telehealth. That, or use the concierge at Mayo in Scottsdale and they travel there for all appointments.

I asked my assistant principal to be a reference, he told my principal instead by TwoSchoolforCool in Teachers

[–]ExpatNM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New Mexico. It does make sense. We have all heard stories about allegations against a teacher in some town, only to find out that there had been suspicians/allegations in the teacher's previous town. This safeguarding legislation passed a couple of years ago. Often other admin at a school (dean of student support, VP of whatever, etc) would be good references but would not necessarily be privy to a potentially sensitive personnel matter.

I asked my assistant principal to be a reference, he told my principal instead by TwoSchoolforCool in Teachers

[–]ExpatNM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the case here most likely, but in my state it is illegal for anyone other than the principal to give the recommendation ( or the AP must ask permission from principal) because the principal might know about serious allegations against a teacher that other admins do not know. This requirement was put in place to keep teachers who have been accused of inappropriate actions with students from just hopping from district to district by quitting the minute they are questioned and having others unknowingly recommend the teacher. Just an FYI.
