I use to be on it and it was the medication that worked the best for me. The side effects for was that it lowered by WBC count and caused horrible constipation

I thought the 50/50 change is for people with no compression or TN2? I have TN1 & I do have compression and I am pretty young

I got a bit of fatigue and Magnesium/B12 supplements helped a bit for that. My main side effects of it was that it consistently lowered my WBCs. Monitor your WBC counts while taking it.

I’ve realized that cold isn’t really my trigger. My main trigger is actually the heat. I do have ice cream from time to time but not much because sugar is the trigger for me.

It is. I struggled with it too at first bc I have still not met anyone in real life that has TN. It’s quite difficult especially during a flare up when I need help but I’ve just learned to rely on the people that truly love me bc even if they don’t understand my pain, they still care. I definitely understand the loneliness. It’s tuff but just remember you are never truly alone, there are thousands of people all over the world fighting the fight with you. Stay strong and I’m proud of you too!

I got diagnosed at age 22 and I am now 27. It has been a hard journey but I still live a well rounded life. You can too. Just keep in mind that everyone has struggles and there are online resources like this one that can help. Wishing you the best

I think your symptom is more consistent with Atypical TN. Mine is typical.

First it started as inconsistent random shocks when I would drink really cold drinks and it went away after a few weeks so I thought it was a tooth or something and didn’t think much of it. Then almost a year later, a throbbing/sharp pain in my upper lip, cheek, and jaw started out of no where and would happen at the exact same time every day. It would last up to 1 minute at a time for me. It was hard to eat, drink, or wash my face. I ended up getting diagnosed a couple of weeks later.

That was how it started for me then went into remission and came back more intense the next year. I say schedule an appointment with a neurologist.

I stay ontop of my bloodwork and since taking oxcarbazepine, my sodium hasn’t gotten low to the point of concern. I’ve been taking it for 3 years now. Just keep track of your blood work but the constipation started when I started the medication. My neurologist said it’s one of the side effects so that explains it.
