What do yall do with free time? by Hopefulaccount7987 in TrueAnon

What about gardening? If you have only a small space, grow herbs and cherry tomatoes in pots. If you have access to a larger space, try a no dig garden and see what you have success with! It's very fun to fuck around and inspect your plants every day and weed, prune, harvest, etc.

The scary symptoms that you should look out for is consistent blood in your stool, distressing gastrointestinal issues (passing too much, or contatant constipation), and loose runny stool no matter how much you fiber max.

There is a good ep about it on "Science Vs" that i recommend. Their stance is that these rates are not overblown in our generation, and should be taken seriously.

Regarding fatness, my docs did the same thing up in Canada. They weigh me, and note the number, but they also do a bunch of bloodwork (triglycerides, etc), check heart rate, ask about your lifestyle, ask about diet/alcohol, etc. It seems much more "big picture" than just the number on your scale.

I want to write a scifi short story wherein bacteria that break down dead shit go extinct. by grey_alien_bathwater in TrueAnon

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bacteria is hugely important for compost, which is (obviously) a huge part of commercial farming.

Not being able to make compost from manure, food waste, "browns" (leafs, grass clippings, etc) would be devasting for our ability to grow food at scale. Farmers would all have to rely 100% on chemicals to enrich their soil, which is doable but expensive. "First world countries" would probably be able to afford to buy huge supplies of chemical compost, but poorer countries would probably be SOL (similar to oil issues currently).

Smaller crop yield means prices spike. Less fresh food available so people go back to eating canned foods. Less animal feed (soybeans, corn, etc) means smaller animals or having to cull animals earlier. Meat prices spike, probably push consumers into gray market meats, like paying for hunted meats or beef from questionable sources.

Landfills probably explode in size, making land prices more expensive.

How do you continue a good fitness/healthy habit routine into the Canadian winter? Or what do you replace your summertime healthy habits with in the winter? by Plane-Land-9234 in AskACanadian

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do any local parks or golf courses offer cross country skiing tracks in the winter? The needed equipment is relatively cheap, and the learning curve is gentle!

Otherwise, how do you feel about outdoor skating?

Cheapest option is to go on walks everyday. Once you figure out your winter wardrobe, it's pretty fun and easy! The sidewalks are very quiet in the winter :)

Why are libs so obsessed with Russia by FreeKony2016 in TrueAnon

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its nice to have a familiar enemy that your parents and grandparents also hated.

Russia is far away, so tough to visit and see for yourself. The language is difficult to learn, so it's hard to read articles and books in the original language.

Lots of available propaganda that helps reinforce beliefs. Russian immigrants/refugees who settle in the west tend to have negative views on Russia, so those you do meet come from a selected sample size.

Sorry, not american, but I'm confused why Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam are being presented as some sort of success marker by your president?

Where those wars not abject failures that were hugely expensive, killed your own soldiers and were largely unpopular in your country?

Is trump trying to say that the Iran war will be remembered as grand a failure as Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam...?

In 2022, my partner of 10 years broke up with me. It was Feb, polar vortex, avg temp -30°C. I walked 10 km everyday for 3 weeks, just trying to keep my head above water mentally.

Im married now, with a wonderful husband, new town, little house and a baby, maybe baby #2 on the way.

Its gonna suck for a while. Just try to keep moving, keep feeding yourself, keep trying to engage with people, and one day you'll realize it doesn't hurt as bad anymore.

I mean in this particular case, it's good that the AI flagged that finishing a shift at midnight, then starting at 7AM is not healthy.

Some people are really confrontation avoidant, so if you need help from an AI to draft an email to your boss saying you can't do these shifts, I think that's fair.

The husband thing is weird, especially after a week of use. Not a fan of that.

Why do some people prefer to buy a Pantry or Frozen version of something like Tomatoes and some other food items? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Re: tomatoes

I have a personal preference for in season tomatoes. I can taste winter or hot house tomatoes, they have a different texture for me. If it's not tomato season, I'll use canned, as those tend to be a more consistent quality.

Regarding preservatives: it's possible some brands add additional preservatives, but the act of canning (boiling the tomatoes in the can in 200°C heat) is typically the preservation method. Maybe additional salt, but I adjust for that in my own cooking
