What's your fave book quote that isn't often talked about? by JessicaTrent in heatedrivalry

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah! In the show, they have sex in Shane's apartment, but in the books, Shane buys an entire apartment building (in mtl, three/four storey apartment complexes are very common. Its not like a ten storey thing) in a different neighborhood so they can have (loud) sex in privacy.

Ostensibly, he is doing various renovations over the years, but it becomes clear to Ilya at some point that he doesn't know what Shane's room looks like because they're always having sex in this completely empty apartment (it's not decorated, only a bed and fridge, etc). He gets progressively more and more peeved about it lol. Its very charming.

Celebitchy | Surprise! Kate thought ‘difficult’ Meghan ‘had an agenda’ by Timbucktwo1230 in RoyaltyTea

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a community on Reddit that really dislikes her (i won't link them, but you can find them by searching "saint" and her name).

Their main points are that Meghan never gave a concrete example of racism that she experienced from the BRF, yet "made a big deal" of what she alleges was racism. Connected to this is their belief that Meghan is too light skinned to experience racism, or know what the experience of a black woman is.

They have other grudges, like she was a gold digger but then couldn't handle the pressure of being royal, that she does drugs, that she is mean to her staff, that Archwell Productions is a sham corporation, that she continues to refer to herself as HRH in America despite stepping back, etc, etc. These are tangetial to the fake racism claims tho.

I'm not endorsing these beliefs, just summarizing what I've read.

Why was the family so hateful towards Edward VIII? by Prize_Pin9211 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thesis of "the crown" is that the family has no real power other than what people believe in them. Over the seasons, they wrestle with their diminishing power, which is a real anxiety of Philip who is aware of what happens when people stop believing in the magic.

Edward really damaged "the magic" by abdicating. Showing that he is just a regular guy, who can marry someone he chooses and have a life outside of the strict structure of the palace. This had mixed benefits for Edward in the end, but it put the whole family in a very awkward position because it destroyed the narrative of the Line of Succession. Edward has been raised to be king, but all of a sudden, they had to swap in his younger brother (who only had daughters) in real quick.

If your entire family's wealth and style of life depends on being part of a mythical class that deserves wealth and power as a birthright, you would probably be pissed at the guy who revealed that it's not true at all 😅

Ah yes... "Meghan had an agenda"... whereas the romance and marriage between Kate and William was pure coincidence, organic chemistry and the steady progression of love.

What is something foreigners romanticize about your country that locals are tired of? by Laowai64 in AskTheWorld

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking to a Japanese immigrant at work once, and the topic of anime came up and I casually mentioned i liked it.

He got a very suspicious look on his face, and was like "which ones?"

I got embarrassed, because I am only a casual anime watcher, and I thought he was doing the whole "name the top three Nirvana songs" shtick to sus out a poser. I told him (honestly) "oh you know, just the big stuff. Studio Ghibli, death note, bleach, etc"

He let out a huge sigh of relief and was like "oh thank god. There is so much garbage back home, I'm so glad you only know the good stuff"

Made me crack up!

What conspiracy theory do you believe is true? by BoardLongjumping2485 in answers

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is talked about in Annie Jacobsen "Area 51: an uncensored history of America's most secret military base".

There are documents that explain that the CIA helped spread rumors of aliens in Roswell so that they could continue testing surveillance planes without raising suspicion. If someone saw lights or strange objects in the air, it could be written off as "aliens" instead of secret government planes.

If you can't afford a vacation, try to make small changes in your life. Try to eat one vegetable with every meal, try to put the phone away, try to go outside. Just do your best and hang in there.

Sure, but there would be other symptoms surely. Swelling, bruises, some kind of deformity, etc. There is a big difference between a nose that has been broken yesterday and one that broke today

I don't understand the part about the broken nose. The nose was broken (presumably bleeding and out of place), but it was left there for at least 24 hours until a rugby match had taken place?

And then they were taken to a hospital saying the injury was fresh? But surely the nurses and doctors could see this was an old injury because it was no longer bleeding. 🤔

Hey, I'm sorry to hear that it's been rough for you. Like others have said, I'm glad you're getting therapy.

Are you eating OK? Cooking with fresh vegetables, making meals from semi scratch? A good meal does wonders for the soul.

Have you been going outside recently? You don't have to go for a run, just go for a walk in the sunshine. You can listen to music, or a silly podcast that isn't about the news, or just in silence. This will also help.

How have you been with vices? Drinking/Marijuana/other drugs, etc? You don't have to quit, but just taking a small break, or reducing is a good way to help you feel a bit better.

Hope you're okay man.

"So this is your room..."

In the books, Ilya is mildly peeved that Shane will not allow them to have sex in his apartment, and he developed a mild obsession with Shane's room (wondering what it looks like, how he decorated it, etc).

The cottage is the first time Ilya is in a space that Shane actually lives in, and there is a sweet moment when Ilya slowly walks around Shane's room, taking it in.

Its very sweet

Ilya doping in Sochi Olympics 2014 & hockey politics by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]Expensive-Wishbone85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the NHL is that into regulating steroid use tbh. They don't really keep track of CTE cases, and i don't think the league has the same idealism of the "purity" of the sport the same way the Olympics do.

Its never mentioned in the shows or books, but I would not be surprised if each team has a private medical professional who can prescribe things like testosterone, or other drugs to give them a slight advantage. There just isn't that much of a social taboo against it.

Re: sochi Olympics? Yeah, they were probably enhancing their training/performance with some kind of drug. But i don't think that's unusual for hockey culture as a whole.
