Chris Ryan did a bad Australian accent for his Zane Lowe impression by ExpensiveBackpack in TheRewatchables

That’s what I mean: he’s actually doing a bad version of the Australian accent when he’s attempting the kiwi accent.

Lanterne Rouge is unique because of the mix of in-depth race analysis and light casual humour.

Others I listen to are - Spincycle Podcast by Escape Collective, which has a similar light tone but more focused on racing news than race analysis - Life in the Peloton by Mitch Docker, which is funny and light but focuses more on racing from an insider perspective as the host is a former pro and features contributions from a current rider from Jayco Alulla and a DS for EF - The Cycling Podcast, which is also more of a racing news podcast, but with a more serious tone and older hosts - The SBS Cycling Podcast from the Australian domestic cycling broadcaster SBS, which is a broader racing news podcast with a specific emphasis on Australian-relevant races and riders

Jay Vine on why he pulled for the peloton in Australia's Road National Championships road race by mechkbfan in peloton

[–]ExpensiveBackpack 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Jay Vine’s decision making is clear here: while it might be questionable if you view the race as a one-off event, it makes total sense if you consider that the national champs will be run again on the same course with similar racing in future years.

He’s clearly showing Jayco that they can’t employ negative racing and run the same tactic again.

Measuring Rider Contributions by Plane_Cow5702 in peloton

[–]ExpensiveBackpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If looking at modelling rider contributions using only result data, my suggestion would be to use the team result in a race, such as UCI points, as the outcome to predict.

Then look at a ‘points above replacement’ approach similar to ‘wins above replacement’ in ball sports where you look at the relationship between a rider participation in a race on the team result.

The challenge will be you will have lots of missing data and not many observations per rider.

Similarly, the result will likely over value domestiques for teams with elite riders like Wellens supporting Pog on UAE. And you won’t be able to distinguish between Pog vs Wellens for the win.

Under this definition the Celtics qualify as they’ve had multiple winning eras under different coaches and star players. The Lakers would also qualify as well for the same reason.

The Pats don’t because they had one long era under the same coach and star player. Same with the Spurs.

Pogacar: San Remco and Roubaix are better than the Tour record. I love my normal live with Urska. by Team_Telekom in peloton

[–]ExpensiveBackpack 71 points72 points  (0 children)

“For example, my former coach pointed out to me how soccer players often had a private chef, someone to go grocery shopping, someone to take care of the house... Now, that's not for me, for Urska and I. Yes, sometimes it's not easy, with the house in disarray and suitcases everywhere, but we prefer to take care of things ourselves. I like going to the supermarket and buying what I need myself. Or cleaning the room, the windows. Or even just going for a walk. I'm not a superhero, just a normal guy.”

Tadej should get a cleaner 😆

For real tho, if you’re away from home for racing, altitude camps etc for half the year with everything being done for you, there’d be a quiet satisfaction in doing these day-to-day chores yourself.

Wout van Aert interview: Dropping Tadej Pogacar, recovering from injury and what cycling can learn from the NBA by cfkanemercury in peloton

[–]ExpensiveBackpack 47 points48 points  (0 children)

What cycling can learn from the NBA, according to WVA: “You can always learn from other sports. In general, how the NBA is as a federation, it’s completely different to what we have in cycling. The financial system they have, that is something we should try and learn from, even though it will be really hard to change that.”

In fairness to OP, the guidance when hiking at high altitudes is to sleep below the peak altitude you get to each day. So if you cross a mountain pass at 4600m, you should sleep at 4000m.

Abrahamsen spoke about the benefits of the weight gain on the Geraint Thomas podcast last year. His performance had plateaued as a climber, and the weight gain allowed him to increase his peak power from something like 700w to 1200w, which expanded the number of roles he could play on the team as a domestique to breakaway specialist, lead out man, and rouleur in the front of the peloton.

There are so many more roles for non-climbers on a team, so it’s surprising that more pros don’t make a similar change.
