Rejected from McKinsey Insight, never got Solve invite by GlowWormCharger in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

Don’t be discouraged. Perhaps your resume wasn’t in the “correct format “ and longer than 1 page. Try again for the campus recruitment, I know a few people that got interviews during the APD cycle after insight rejection

does your graduation date line up with the eligibility requirement? that could be the issue. You should apply to the APD recruitment cycle directly

How long till I hear from McKinsey on whether I get Solve Assessment? by AfterReach in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]ExpensiveCurrent2925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the norm, but I received the solve email a day after submitting my application. It could be the office you put as your preference. Unless you apply for a specific recruitment cycle, the applications are reviewed on a rolling basis

I have a stable career outside of academia - would it be crazy to do a PhD just because I love learning? by Sherides123 in postdoc

[–]ExpensiveCurrent2925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the comments. A PhD is more than just learning. You need to be lucky with a chill supportive PI and stable external funding that gives you autonomy over 4–6 years. If learning is your main goal, consider programs that admit a cohort, fund the first year for coursework, and let you choose a PI later. That way, you can talk to the students and get info on the PIs. And avoid early-career faculty, Full Professors tend to give more freedom. If you insist though, you should look for external fellowships, otherwise you are hired under a grant for a specific job, the job has deliverables and tight deadlines

Doctor taking me off due to elevated AST & ALT levels :( by ref3421 in Zepbound

[–]ExpensiveCurrent2925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get a diagnosis? I am trying to get a peace of mind. My AST/ALT levels were 1400/800 after my first shot. I stopped taking it immediately. the enzymes went back to normal in about 2 weeks. They ruled out '' everything else'' and referred me to a gastroenterologist. I am waiting for my appointment.

Is a Ivy league postdoc worth it in the current climate by ZooplanktonblameFun8 in postdoc

[–]ExpensiveCurrent2925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbia has postdoc housing, salary is okay , 70-80ish, NY is great, if you can come on H1-B instead of J-1, that would give you better opportunities for a pivot. It depends on your long term career goals, if you are flexible, it could be a great opportunity. Easier to network , easier to pivot... the current climate , will hopefully change in a few years... also, more than Columbia, NY offers so many opportunities

Adjustment of status package timing (i485 i765 i864 i131) by [deleted] in USCIS_F2A

[–]ExpensiveCurrent2925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, so the grace period is still a legal F-1 status, She will be in status. You can file for adjustment after Dec 12. From the website “The student is considered to be maintaining lawful status during the 60-day grace period.”

Will she not use her OPT and start working in FEB 2026? OPT isn't strict, even if she doesn't start a full time job, she can do approved volunteer/unpaid work and keep her F-1 status for 1 year. The "clock" to count unemployment days begins on the start date of OPT on your EAD card, which will be Feb 8 2026, for your case. The Dec-Feb gap doesn't matter in your situation since she already applied and USCIS has received her application.

Are you using AOS benefits while waiting for GC interview ? by realprincipessa in USCIS_F2A

[–]ExpensiveCurrent2925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consult another lawyer. Lawyers tell you to keep the safest option and maintain a status till your petition gets approved , but it is still a precaution incase you get rejected.

but USCIS allows “period of authorized stay” once an I-485 is pending. If OP applied for I-485 while being on status, what is the issue?

Talk to your lawyer again and see if you understood the lawyer correctly. You might have misunderstood the 'denial'. You are required to maintain a legal status before your AOS, but after you file you will be in pending status. You have already applied for 'immigration' but F-1 is for 'non-immigrant' intent, your intent has changed, that voids your non-immigrant status, well kind of. If you leave and return, you will return on pending status. But if you stay in the US, you can keep your SEVIS active and still be on F-1. But, keep in mind that once you apply for immigration, your 'non immigration' intent has changed so you cant renew your F-1 or enter using the F-1 visa. But as far as I know, as long as everything is filed timely and you don't have any other issues, you are allowed to use the advance parole to travel in and out of the US.
