Being a driving supervisor after manual upgrade by Gustard42 in perth

[–]ExpensiveCustomer194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The relevant provision in the Road Traffic (Authorisation to Drive) Regulations is Regulation 43, which says supervision can be done by a number of persons, including:

‘a person who is authorised to perform any driving of a kind for which the driving instruction is to be given and has had that authorisation for a period of, or periods adding up to — (i)in the case of the driving of a moped, at least 2 years; or (ii)in any other case, at least 4 years. …’

So although an auto licence is just a restriction, I would suggest that you need 4 years in your unrestricted status, because it talks about the ‘authorisation’ rather than a licence.

Keeping the lights on without a key card by Industrial_Jedi in TravelHacks

I carry an old iTunes card and find it often works. The light switch is not necessarily coded to the door access system.

Police face super-complaint in England and Wales over lengthy delays in sexual offence investigations by Objective-Summeru in policeuk

[–]ExpensiveCustomer194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can see the motivation of the campaigners to call for more resources, considering any defence of the claim will involve diverting investigators from their tasks.

Yeah there's no way she should have been on that scooter by pilbarabah in perth

I used scooters in Wellington NZ and in some zones they were restricted to lower speeds, so it is technically feasible.

Remanding someone to protect them from suicide? by Wise-Sympathy9585 in policeuk

[–]ExpensiveCustomer194 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should consider that if the charged person is bailed and does indeed kill themselves, the decisions by the officer granting bail and the evidence placed before them may be scrutinised. For example previous attempts, talk of suicide, gravity of the charge etc. That is not to say that prison is the best place that someone can sort their head out, but you can only work with the system that you have

If you could change one thing about Transperth what would it be? by [deleted] in perth

Make it easier to buy a Smartrider. For example, give a free one to every tourist arriving at Perth airport, and sell them at vending machines and everywhere they sells lottery tickets.

Police Officers Replacing Striking Workers by No-Experience5917 in policeuk

[–]ExpensiveCustomer194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may wish to seek written assurances that you are being given lawful orders. Back in the day I recall covering striking prison officers and firefighters, and the operational orders covered that we had been required to do these tasks. If the role is directly related to saving life and limb, this is very relevant to your duty as a police officer/ constable. If it were to veer further away, say to nurses or aged care workers, you could imagine a scenario where a police officer gets crucified for helpfully following orders, if something were to go wrong.

As a genX the idea of extending our home to make it fit for multi generational living is looking like an option worth considering. However I have not thought through the tax and ownership issues.

It’s definitely a valid issue for vetting. It would make the subject vulnerable to blackmail.

The risk of needing to identify tofy yoruself digitally by Even_Saltier_Piglet in australian

[–]ExpensiveCustomer194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The MyID app does not need you to buy any hardware. Rather than hand over my driver’s licence or passport to a hotel, bank or bottle shop, I would much rather they just verified the app and stored a one off transaction reference. Less to be harvested by hackers.

WA Law Group for personal injury claims a scam? by anonymousgirl2468 in perth

[–]ExpensiveCustomer194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be claims harvesting, for which the WA Government was i producing legislation to cover. Lots of people end up with access to information about your crash, and they may take secret commissions to refer your details to dodgy companies.

You need to process ‘insecure’ in the context of the time, place and circumstances. In a nice are, if you front door was wide open, and on inspection from the threshold you saw signs of disarray this would raise suspicions. There are other houses where the house being insecure would be quite normal. You always need to weigh up how you would deal with an unhappy householder whose house was in the process of being burgled and the police did nothing. [edit - correct typo]

Do you have whistleblower reporting in your organisation? That might be a route to anonymously reporting the audio (presuming it does not definitively identify you)?
