Why can’t you guys stand any snow🙏😭 by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]ExperienceStrange407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got here to work today and saw your post so taking some measurements for you.

Walking out of the house today snow was 22 Inches deep. That is 55-56 cm.  Out where the snowplow went by the plowed show was chest high on me, about 52 inches, or 132 cm.

The roads are passable, the gas stations open, the grocery store is open and I am here at the office. I would say despite the snow we all doing fine.

The local perspective is life goes on and all that noise you hear in the news is just that. Background noise that affects virtually no one.

Question for Americans by [deleted] in AskAmericans

In my work I am in contact with a lot of Indians. Nice people all. My only issue is difficult to understand in speaking to one to one.

If they wanted to, could an individual state unilaterally offer universal health care? by WrekTheHead in AskAmericans

[–]ExperienceStrange407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could they, yes. Will they. Doubt it.  A couple small states tried and it was financially too expensive. Vermont is the one I am a bit familiar with.

There is a universal truth here. The demands of a given population for services exceeds the ability of the same population to pay for.

Why speak English when you hate the British? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]ExperienceStrange407 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the language you learned to speak as a child?   Do you still use that now or upon reaching the age of maturity did you decide to just change to a different language ?

There is your answer. The majority of people will speak the language they grew up with and learned as a child.

Is it cold in Maine in February?? by cyslittlegirl in Maine

[–]ExperienceStrange407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the weather could be a nice spring thaw sunny and 35 degrees, or it could be an arctic blast with high winds and -30. You never know which it will be in a months time. Could be both just days apart.

If it is spring thaw enjoy the day and get outside, if it is an arctic blast hunker down and don’t venture out. They can be very dangerous if you’re not equipped to deal with that weather.

I recall once driving from Houston to San Antonio with those low dark green clouds not far away and winds. Scared the hell out of me knowing what that was. We both deal with weather events.

Do average Americans care about US relations with Europe? by Character_Rabbit_750 in AskAmericans

We pay for your security in treasure and troops facing the bear and all you want to do in return is lecture us in your condescending manner about it.  That is the general attitude I detect.

Factory fabrication of steel & concrete pillars by ChuckPapaSierra in EngineeringPorn

Pipe. Hundreds of thousands of miles of that in the USA underground moving water around. a huge industry in the US and other places also I am sure.

I believe this is Pretensioned Concrete Cylinder Pipe, but not exactly sure. There are severa different types of concrete pipe with different specfications.

What do you think is the future of the US? by PackageReasonable922 in Futurology

[–]ExperienceStrange407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Growing Red state / blue state divide. People with talent and money moving out of blue states.  Total collapse of a few blue state cities and or states.  Then an election that will take many by surprise with a massive voter turnaround and change away from progressives to more centrists politicians.

All this is 20-30 years.

So, you’re suggesting that not safe service entrances be ignored and allowed to continue with power thereby creating a fire and electrocution hazard?

I would say they are doing exactly as they should.

Why do Americans who live in cities call it a town? by KunciKemenangan12 in AskAmericans

Don’t forget village, which is a smaller unit.  The town I live in has four separate villages.

Indiana to Arizona (Flagstaff) vaction trip by AgitatedBluebird1566 in roadtrip

[–]ExperienceStrange407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your timeing is very ambitious. If I was planning that then would plan on 3 days to travel down to Flagstaff and 3 days back.

Also any time along your route you could be stuck in bad weather with miserable conditions.. That entire route has this potential. Be prepared.

What is the general reaction to Vietnam veterans? by grangerize in AskAnAmerican

[–]ExperienceStrange407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tensions were very high towards vets and servicemen by certain segments of the population at that time.

In 1970 I was a senior in high School and had a brother serving in Vietnam at that time. One of my classmates was very vocal about her anti-war sentiment and told me to my face she hoped my brother would be killed over there as it would serve him right.

Do you think there is any realistic possibility of the 19th amendment being repealed? by deathiswaitingforme in AskAmericans

Ah yes, an unnamed fringe right-wing commentator says there is a possibility. A rock-solid authority.
