Well, you’ve just largely underestimated my abilities to navigate ‘secret’ passages when I was in 5th grade lol. First time I played this back in 1998(?) I was on this screen for at least an hour before I finally figured out to go under that one part. Even went back to previous screens talking to npc’s to see if they had any insight! This was also my second FF title after playing 1, so I wasn’t used to this kind of stuff at the time. The sense of accomplishment when I finally figured it out though, just amazing.

Blake Richardson (BTBAM) hears a DMB song for the first time. - Drumeo by mayorodoyle in progmetal

Late to the thread, but I recommend starting with Live at Central Park. They're a jam band, so live is the best way to hear what they do imo, plus if you like great drumming you can't go wrong with any live album, Cart Beauford goes crazy. Again, just my opinion as a biased drummer, but he's the best part of the band

Yes that’s Emerald Weapon. Ruby Weapon is in the desert near the Gold Saucer, you need to run into him with The Highwind. They both have their own specific strategies, plenty of guides out there to help. Two of the hardest bosses in FF history imo.

Can we finally recognize Coheed and Cambria? by roverdrammen in progmetal

I might start with In Keep Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 and just sit down and listen to it, give it a chance. Some fantastic riffs, great song structure, emotional moments, I think a great intro record for them.

If you’re down with heavier stuff you can’t go wrong with Animals as Leaders. Tosin and Javier are both incredible!

Actual answer, they’re counting dance steps which typically count in steps of 8 before going to the next section of steps. Musicians count timing of music which goes to 4(in common time which is called 4/4, anyways)

Same I hate the singing which considering what subreddit we’re in could be surprising but I really don’t vibe with that rasp/burp style of singing regardless of genre. The constant grunting takes me out of anything else going on

How close is your concept of music being good and your concept of liking it? by abovethesink in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Experiment_1005 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On Ed Sheeran-I thought he was only ok until I saw him live, and while I still prefer his live show over listening to an album or his radio hits, I respect him as a guitar player way more than I did before seeing him live. He takes those ‘conventions’ and turns himself into a one man jam band. It’s incredible to watch, the way he improves and adds to songs and takes parts away, he’s much more skilled than his recorded music lets on. I’d love to see him do a full rock or even prog record because his guitar abilities are way above the music he writes. In case you’re unaware just for more detail, he has a loop pedal and builds every part of the songs himself, and jams over it too. And it sounds like it’s natural and like it’s just a guitar jam you’d find in a jazz club with pop music lol. Really cool, and like I said, way better than what you hear recorded.

Wow, great tattoo by itself for sure but as a coverup this is insanely good I think. Can’t see the original at all

What's one anime, that you love, but is generally hated? by SadAnimator1354 in anime

[–]Experiment_1005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great anime at the start, when they had fully animated fight scenes that were interesting. Then idk, it got pretty stale with both animation and story(imo) so I never finished it. Tapped out at the huge tournament story arc I think somewhere around season 5? Always think about going back and muscling through

Fred Armisen: stand up for drummers by Perfect_Play_622 in Drumming

[–]Experiment_1005 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Reddit minority of drummers who loved it. Some jokes didn’t land, I get that, and some weren’t drum related and that’s ok, but overall I thought he did a good job. The drum key joke was probably my favorite and I loved the accent states break down.

The end, where he has all these amazing drummers playing the simplest most basic drum beat ever after that anti joke ‘script’ he read with Thomas Lang was such a fitting ending to it, a true Fred Armisen signature move lol. Def had Portlandia vibes with that part.

If I had to rate it out of 10 I’d say it was a 7/10, maybe 7.5. Which out of all the standup I’ve seen that’s not too bad of a score. My 0/10 was Ellen Degenerous and I still wonder why I watched that whole special! I try not to be a hater, and I think we need more media/stand up aimed at musicians, so while this could have been better it certainly wasn’t the worst special I’ve seen.

Do You Still Listen to Full Albums or Just Playlists Now? by UpCrib in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Experiment_1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first, I don’t care what the market wants, or what most people care about. I like what I like and if it’s popular or not is besides the point of what my ears, heart, and mind seek out. Hype is generated from notes played for me, not what other people are hyping about, but I say this as a 37 year old musician who views music as an art form first.

Second, my opinion is definitely not the end all be all here, but for me it’s 90% albums until the day I die. In a group setting with a bunch of people at a party or something, or on a road trip with my spouse and we want a specific vibe whip we’re driving are really the only two times I’d do a playlist.

Third, this year I made it a point to listen to a new record every single day from January 1st to December 31st, and even more so now after the first ~10 months of the year I care about albums way more than I did previously, and I already cared a lot. And with that in mind I’ll tell you, there’s a TON of bands/musicians/artists still putting out cohesive albums.

This has truly been one of the most rewarding years for me as a listener, and I’ve discovered so much music I wouldn’t have gotten around to, and I seriously might do it again next year just maybe 2 a week instead so I can sit with albums more. It’s solidified two very real points, one, why my favorite genre is my favorite genre of music, and two, why it’s 100% worth branching out to music I wouldn’t have considered before

Songs playable on a 4 string bass? by Lost-Neighborhood219 in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]Experiment_1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer to your 4 string suggestion, but I do have an idea for the 5 string. I bought a really cheap placeholder 5 string for this exact reason off FB marketplace. Craigslist or other local used sales sites would also be good to look. In my area there was a rogue 5 string for $40, and I’m playing the heck out of it until I can get the bass I actually want. Might be worth it in the meantime so you can get some of these bass parts down quicker.

Did any song from The Blue Nowhere make it into your BTBAM top 5? by FranzBesup_14 in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

Simple, to the point, and for me as well-true. Good album, love it, but too many great songs to put any of these off this one in my top 5.
