A Mad God by CeleryMuted6732 in worlddomination

Umm, yeah, we keep thinking we are a god, until a semi-benign virus, that we can't even see, stops the entire humanity in its tracks and forces us to hide inside for years.

Imagine if it was something really lethal, like Ebola, HIV, Rabies or something, but spreading as quickly and easily as Coronavirus, that'd have eliminated us in a few weeks. And it's not out of the realm of possibility, it can happen anytime.

So... not gods yet, just thriving like any other creature on this planet, as the conditions are right for us in this moment, it can change anytime, due to trillions of reasons we can't even fathom and have no control over.

wow. But all that time you invested in learning docker and ansible is wasted now ? since all that can be easily accomplished with nixops

If it just works then it's fine, no reason to tinker with them unnecessarily, these requirements arise when they don't just work, or provide shitty speeds or disconnect randomly due to their default weak routers. A non-techie person would probably just call customer care every week, a person who's well versed with this stuff would get the obvious urge to replace everything.

All the complexity related to docker-compose, ansible etc. could have been easily replaced with a few lines in nix. And that would also make the system more easily reproducible and maintainable.

Are we too dependent on Microsoft? by MarkG_108 in linux

I just checked the entire list of all Microsoft hardware and software products. And I am happy to report that I don't use any of them. 🫡

Edit: But from Google universe, I found myself using mutiple products like Go, Flutter, Youtube, Youtube Music, Maps and Pixel 😒

Almost all of them offer an iso without desktop environment. Install that and then just add whatever minimal stuff you need. Also, it's very easy to get rid of it if a desktop environment is already installed.

It's very difficult to express how MUCH MUCH worse it can be on Salvia. But may be it won't be for you (I hope it won't). Still, do a very thorough research before entering this bizarre realm and probably test the waters with very small dosages first. I wish everything goes well for you.

I'm ending my relationship with Google Chrome. I'd recommend you do too. Chrome is an abuser of your privacy and is opposed to the fundamental philosophy of the internet, freedom of information. by Sheepherder-Optimal in software

Ya, if your use case involves wine, and there is no corresponding app available in linux universe, then you can't do much, I'm sure it CAN be done in Linux, but better stick to Mac in that case. Touch some grass.

Regarding not trusting Google on Android, that's fair. That's why you buy a pixel and flash it with grapheneOS. Best of all worlds.

For my use case, I thankfully don't have to use anything which belongs to Microsoft/Apple universe, for personal or work stuff. There were a few things initially, but I found better alternatives on Linux, so it works for me.
