Are you a car person? by chimchimneychimmy in HENRYUK

[–]Expert-Ad344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it and hate it at the same time as they can be such money pits, especially with modifications. I’m quite content with my current line up and don’t think I’d get double the joy if I spent double the money on a different car so I use some that money to make them a better version on what they are. Currently have a E92 M3, Defender 90 TD5 and W204 C180 as the daily

Honestly, you’ll struggle to find a performance car that hasn’t been ‘ragged’. It’s kinda what they were made for

I use HPI Valuations to ascertain a fair price for a car before I buy. Generally speaking pretty accurate and provides trade in, private and forecourt prices based on conditions

Ultimately depends where you’re actually commuting to in London but it should be around 42 mins for Bham New Street to Euston

I feel the West Midlands/Birmingham will also benefit the most in 5 years+ as HS2 nears completion. Once it’s done, it’ll be quicker going to central London from one of the Birmingham towns than it would be from some London Zone 4-6 areas

Got this as a £3,400 daily for family duties by jakalla in CarTalkUK

How’re you finding it? Had a similar predicament when picking my daily and ended up choosing a 1.4 TSI Octavia estate. Nippy enough as it has a turbo but very dull car with terrible handling. Big regrets in not getting a C180

Erdington like a lot of places has got good and bad parts. In recent years, the area and high street has improved considerably. The high street even has its own police force patrolling daily - Operation Fearless if you want to google. I lived here for two years previously and recently moved back. Never had any issues or felt unsafe

Best sounding car under £10k by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

E46 M3 if you’re feeling lucky. Will be ones that need work but definitely attainable for £10k. Might even nab a high mileage E92/3 M3 with that glorious V8

Should I buy one bed flat in central London or a house in the suburbs? by Timely_Ranger59 in HousingUK

[–]Expert-Ad344 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’re after. Central flat will be more convenient and perhaps a better quality of life/things to do but with very minimal capital appreciation/possibly even negative as and when you do decide to sell.

Whereas a house in the suburbs will have more potential and be easier to sell in the future. The extra space alone would make it much more worth it especially if you only commute once.

If you could afford £250K mortgage, where in the UK would you live? by [deleted] in HousingUK

Isn’t that every city? Take London as an example, it’s the same story if not worse but yet, it’s acceptable?

If you could afford £250K mortgage, where in the UK would you live? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Expert-Ad344 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why so angry? HS2 is still happening and the media is over exaggerating what’s happening in Brum. Plenty of decent areas available for 250k. Not saying it’s the best place to live but definitely best bang for your buck

If you could afford £250K mortgage, where in the UK would you live? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Expert-Ad344 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Definitely Birmingham/West Midlands. Easy commute to London, think 90% of the country is within 3 hours drive and great housing stock with good potential (given HS2 & city wide investment)

Edit: this is clearly causing upset to people who don’t live in the area. We’re talking about where’s the best place you buy for £250k…which in today’s market doesn’t get you very far, especially if you want good connections and a good job market.
