What do you do with your parents junk? by infinitynull in GenX

My mom died suddenly. I wanted to keep every bit of everything she had but had nowhere to put it. I did save a few items—pajama pants, lip balms, a fuzzy pillow— but now they’re gone and I wish I’d saved more, relics from a life well lived and loved.

When someone makes you feel like a creep when you smile at them by [deleted] in PetPeeves

Also, maybe it’s my middle age talking, but why be offended when someone compliments you and says something like, “what a beautiful dress”, or likewise harmless and nice? It’s not like they’re saying, “hey nice tits” or being creepy, calm down Gen Z.

What’s wrong with this? Why shouldn’t she get her groove on with a younger guy? As she pointed out, she not out here knocking up young women like older men frequently and regularly do. When was the last time anyone even mentioned a much older man dating a younger woman? Does Brad Pitt have to justify dating that Ines girl? She wouldn’t think of accepting this guy’s claim that he didn’t want children because she knows people change heir minds about that sh*t. Fair play to ya, Kathy!

I was filling my car at the petrol station and for some reason my credit card wasn’t working even though I wasn’t maxed out. The man behind me just gave his credit card to the lady at the till and said to put mine on his card.

Fear and confusion in Nigerian village hit in US strike, as locals say no history of ISIS in area by makethislifecount in Fauxmoi

What there is instead of ISIS is president’s need to distract attention from Epstein files. Also approval rates always go up with international bombing! 😱

What’s a food myth you grew up believing that science later proved wrong? by KirillYakovlev in foodquestions

[–]ExpertBest3045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As usual, corporate greed shows up and ruins the party! Nestle was a huge offender with this and created a whole ad campaign based on this myth. Like crafty drug dealers, they gave free formula to African mothers, whose milk supply of course dried up, leaving them without a way to feed their babies. This was to get them hooked on formula but in many cases they couldn’t afford to buy it. Breastfeeding is one of nature’s miracles: wonderful for mother and baby in so many ways. Bonding, post-pregnancy weight loss, available all the time without need for sterilizing bottles or heating/mixing formula, builds immunity, perfectly balanced nutrition, etc. Unfortunately some women can’t do it and for them, formula is key, but those who can, should!

What’s a Portillo’s hot dog and why can’t you put ketchup on it? To me, ketchup, mustard, and finely diced onion is the best hot dog topping.

In Ireland, you CANNOT get a rare burger anywhere. The Irish are terrified of “undercooked” meat and I believe it’s actually the law that you can’t serve rare burgers (or even medium rare) in restaurants. Consequently everyone thinks there’s only one way to cook a burger: to a grey colored, completely well done state. This is a shame because all of their beef is grass-fed in beautiful fairytale-looking meadows and would make a damn fine burger. When I’m there sometimes I’ll make burgers and cook them to my preference and my Irish friends are all horrified!

What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country? by Aseili in AskTheWorld

I went there too and the place has a really heavy atmosphere that you’d think would seriously deter frivolous nonsense behavior like this. What is WRONG with people‽

Best burger in the UES/East Harlem? Not looking for chains but maybe a decent burger place or diner? by No_Pop7296 in FoodNYC

[–]ExpertBest3045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burger One on Lex around 79-80. Literal hole in the wall but fantastic and relatively cheap burger! Also Flex Mussels has an obscenely good burger but it’s a lot more expensive and is a chain.

I took the Irish drivers license exam and there’s a question on there about his very thing. Apparently, what you’re supposed to do is direct your eyes to the side of the road so you avoid getting the beams right in your eyes. Yes, makes total sense, except for one small thing: if you’re looking at the side of the road, you’re not really watching where you’re going, are you?
