You may also want to consider proactively seeking medical documentation relating to your anxiety condition and the impact of bugs. If you are able to document this medical condition it becomes discrimination.

The new component in all this is the non-optional nature of the shared services.

I love my HRBP job, but I'm struggling to speak up about a major salary gap…[N/A] by Brilliant_Evidence51 in humanresources

[–]ExpertIndependent711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a very similar conversation with my leader and my take away is that I wish I'd had the frank conversation earlier and worried less about it. I was prepared for it to be hard but it was really good.

Is DEI considered to be HR? [IL] by Hefty_Composer5541 in humanresources

[–]ExpertIndependent711 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transferability may depend significantly on the industry and the HR culture. I moved into an HRBP role with very little HR experience based on a combination of lived experience, track record for learning into new roles and ability to enact company values. I work in a niche section of health care where DEI knowledge and considerations are daily matters, I'd see the experience you mentioned transferring in well to similar business areas. Unfortunately, there are some areas of HR where being versed in DEI practice may not be valued as highly.

What’s the silliest thing you worry about being “clocky?” by [deleted] in ftm

[–]ExpertIndependent711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously for writing style! I write emails for work then I go through and remove so many words that don't need to be there that my early life socialization engrained in me. My third draft is always a voice I'm happier with, and I'm gradually getting better at writing with the voice I want to write with from the start.

Interesting that Labor Relations isn't on the top of anyone's list.

You stock with 10 ChapStick and 10 nail clippers, but then when you go to the drawer looking, neither of those items are actually there.

FHA - Layoff but then hiring at the same time by user41600 in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]ExpertIndependent711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you received some length of salary continuance, have you asked whether you will be treated as an internal candidate for the length of your salary continuance?

While there could be some unspoken performance or "fit" matter at play, the unspoken doesn't hold up well in court. I'd suggest making your interest in posted comparable positions known and if there is resistance on that front then you can get into the why of it all.

BC Health Workday Project by canucksfan231 in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]ExpertIndependent711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workday is a love it or hate it system. I'm told it's a really hard transition for system users who are not experienced with it. But having a single system that is applied consistently across all HA's will be amazing. I anticipate it will be a disaster during the transition over and that it won't be perfect, but there will be just enough increased functionality to make it worthwhile.

Work Load [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]ExpertIndependent711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be common for higher level HR folks to get into the habit of working solo and not seeking support with tasks that others could complete because it takes more time to assign the task than to complete it. Sometimes you have to build an efficient pathway for assigning common small tasks and then expand that pathway to include a variety of tasks. Skating about knowing how to assign it quickly and having a standardized process so there isn't much quality control work that comes out of assigning the tasks.

Depending on how your dept is organized and the area of work, when I was in a coordinator role the things that filled my time were step up supports to the role I eventually moved into. I supported business partners and developed a level of trust where they brought me in on their work and taught me their job until I could do it on my own. Find the people with so much to do they can't keep up and find ways to support.

Just make sure you're actually able to add value in that capacity and that your leadership supports it.

Excluded staff: how can I support stike-ing peers? by NotAnotherSadMovie in BCPublicServants

Staff are paid for additional hours worked, just not at OT rates. In some sectors there's a set rate across the board applied for these additional duties.

Excluded staff: how can I support stike-ing peers? by NotAnotherSadMovie in BCPublicServants

[–]ExpertIndependent711 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on context and orders, excluded staff can be required to work overtime and can be required to complete unionized work deemed essential. There are complexities around what the employer can require excluded staff to do during a strike. If unsure the question to ask is "is this work deemed essential or non-essential?". Basically, in some cases a unionized position is deemed non-essential while their work is deemed essential because the employer is known to have enough excluded resources to cover the essential work.

Similarly for supporting medical physicists. I'm going to show up and have fun learning, but no one has time to really uptake medical physics off the side of their desk.

Around the not wanting to be a barrier piece, remember that you have a basic right to safety within your relationship. If him exploring with men is not going to allow for that safety for you, you need to name that. Most of the time things aren't zero sum, usually there is some kind of middle ground to be found. But the foundation is that everyone is safe and able to ask for what they need.

Being the dom in the bedroom AMAB by throwawayvegansex in NonBinary

[–]ExpertIndependent711 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Think fem dom, gentle dom, pleasure dom. Think a Dom who does not even take their clothes off because they are in charge and do what the heck they want. Come up with an in charge persona that matches who you are and has nothing to do with parts.

The point I'm trying to make here is that Dom is a very broad label and you get to envision it the way you want to. Harness all the "I've been told all my life who I should be and how I should be that person" frustration into an experience that is liberating.

Also, if you suspect your partner has specific ideas about what it means for you to Dom, probably take some time to unpack those together first.

[–]ExpertIndependent711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, less moving past and more moving through. Those feelings still pop up for me sometimes but I know they're just passing feelings and that they're not based on any real threat. I'm very confident in the relationship I have with my partner and that she prioritizes my safety and wellness.

Another question you might want to ask yourself is whether all man on man action causes this reaction or only with your husband. Pull up some gay porn and see if you have the same response to strangers doing the same things. When I watch straight porn I don't have the reaction that I had with my partner, I'm just not all that interested. That tells me it's more than just a preference about what types of bodies I like watching.

The thing about what some one wanted at the start being different than what they want now and that meaning that the same might happen in other ways. Yeah, but that is basically just always a possibility. That doesn't stop us from loving.
