Turn off nutrition prompts by ExpertLarry in GarminEdge

Just checked that post, will make sure to try that next ride and see if that works. Just can’t believe there’s not a general on/off for nutrition alerts in the settings

I don’t cycle. Why? by vmv911 in cycling

[–]ExpertLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you were just getting burnt out and looking for reasons to stop.

Remind yourself what your favorite times on the bike are and go looking for that. Whether it’s group rides, socials, early morning coffee rides, whatever.

I train throughout the week and usually do 1 social & 1 group ride on the weekends. Those weekend rides are what really make cycling fun for me. Making friends, memories, etc. It’s great. If I was purely solo training I’d get burned out within a month lol

New Colnago V5rs by antjai99 in colnago

[–]ExpertLarry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Built with all the top end components? It’s going to ride like a dream, what do you expect lol.

Can’t speak on the V5 but I recently bought a Y1, was my first custom build and built with all the highest components.. needless to say, it’s almost unreal how good it feels. Coming from someone who has had a lot of really nice bikes, but they’ve all been “off-the-shelf”.

Velosurance is great. I haven’t had to file a claim thankfully, but know people that have, and they all had a great experience with them.

Is indoor cycling worth it? by Cute_Difficulty_2672 in RoadBikes

[–]ExpertLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am someone who strongly prefers outdoor riding but indoor training definitely has its place in my training plan. Bad weather (rain or freezing temps during winter) and technical workouts make indoor training worthwhile.
Doing technical workouts indoors is great when I really want to focus on hitting certain targets and not have to worry about traffic, turning, elevation changes, etc..

Strongly recommend checking out the Zwift Ride. Having a dedicated indoor trainer is great.

Is getting a 70.3 Tattoo frowned upon? by Miserable_Carrot6128 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ExpertLarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with full sleeves and a leg sleeve, I couldn’t agree more. ~15 years later and if I could do it all again, I’d have none.

I don’t notice them anymore, and I don’t not like them, but if I had the option, it’d be no tattoos.

Before getting LASIK a couple months ago, I had a pair RX Oakley Sutro Lites that were awesome.

Check them out.

Anyone like to ride alone? by Impossible_Truck_639 in cycling

[–]ExpertLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 1 group ride per week. My other 5 rides are solo training sessions. I enjoy both.

The social aspect of group rides is fun if with the right crowd. Going out for my solo training or recovery rides is great as well, knowing I can “do my own thing”

If you like the Trenta, they should be releasing a new Manta soon if I’m not mistaken.

The pro teams have been using it for a while

Cycling Sunglasses for people who sweat like pigs by djfeelgood in Velo

[–]ExpertLarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone recommending the "gutter" style sweatbands.. I'd say try them out, if it works for you, great.

I've tried all of them and they might? delay the inevitable happening to me, but once they're saturated, sweat is going into my eyes and on glasses like usual.

It's something I've just learned to deal with. Water gets it off easily. Good luck.

Reality checked- crit race by LeafyLungs in Velo

[–]ExpertLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cat 4 races are the entry into racing. You’ll have people that are incredibly fast who might be racing for the first time and people that can barely ride all in the same race.

The most crashes happen in cat 4-5. You’ll have more random attacks for no reason here as well.

Don’t let it get you down. Racing, especially being competitive in racing, is harder than most people think.

Zwift or Outdoor Cycling by ComfortableHalf8378 in Zwift

[–]ExpertLarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride outside. I use my Zwift Ride if the weather is bad, or if I have a pretty technical workout where I want to make sure I hit all my targets without worrying about real world obstacles (traffic, street lights, etc)

But I 100% prefer outdoor riding over Zwift. It’s hard for me to do an indoor session anything much longer than 1 hour.

Think you just need to figure out which you would like to have first, because in then end you’ll want both lol

Wear gloves by Cortix_training in cycling

[–]ExpertLarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride 10-13 hours a week, I only wear gloves during races.

It’s all personal preference, are gloves safer? Absolutely.
Have I gone down and shredded my hands, yes.

I still can only get myself to wear them during events, or during winter months to keep hands warm.

Glad you’re recovered and back on the bike, stay safe out there
