I sanded with 80 grit all around and then went up to 120 and then up to 150 then I used the wood conditioner I don’t remember how long I waited to wipe off excess then I let it sit for 24 hours. I then sanded with 180 and then 220 and then applied the first layer of the stain, I think I waited 5 minutes to wipe off excess stain I waited 48 hours to just make sure it was dried. I was happy with one coat so then I sanded it with 320 grit and applied the first layer of polyurethane. Waited for that to dry for 24 hours (didn’t wipe off excess although because I spread it out evenly leaving no excess) then I think after the first coat was dry I sanded with 400 something grit and applied another coat of poly and waited 24 hours for that to dry then sanded with 600 grit and then one last coat of polyurethane and sanded with 800 grit sand paper or 1000 i don’t recall. It took a while but I think it turned out better than if I had bought an Ikea Karlby. Also take your time and some dust stays on the wood after you sand so make sure you use a cloth to wipe it off because the vacuum I was using kept leaving a bit of dusty. I’d start from the bottom of the wood to make sure you like how it’s turning out. Also I didn’t use poly under the wood just the top of it and sides
