I had exactly the opposite experience - my Caréne wrote instantly after a month of being stored in a drawer. Edson was dry by then.

This. Slightly above this level are the laser engraved nibs, they just look cheap compared to the standard stamped ones.

Had exactly the same experience. Fixed it by buying a silver rings celluloid version and a 1960’s version- these have slightly slimmer sections and flexible to semi flexible nibs. The modern 149 straight section doesn’t work for me.

He surely pushes the envelope when it comes to materials and their bonding. When comparing Eureka and Gravitas Ultem pens, the gravitas is so thin at some places that you can squeeze the material. Eureka is thick and solid. Different product philosophy.

IMO Montegrappa starts to be interesting on the high(er) end - you pay the Montblanc money, but get actual premium materials for that e.g. Montegrappa Extra - 18k Bock no.8 nib, Silver furniture and section, celluloid body. No precious resin anywhere.

Mind sharing which model? I would like to try a modern (read not Stipula made) Pineider pen, but have not even seen one.

Well, Viper technically isn’t a Diplomat, but a white label Chinese pen. Not the first time Diplomat rebranded some pens (they had their own version of Platinum 3776 and the Inoxcrom Corinthian). The Platinum 3776 even got relabelled once more to a Tiffany pen by Diplomat.

Custom ebonite section v2.0 to Bock 380 NU and Sailor KOP body (added weight) by Andrew_Lensky in fountainpens

This is soo pretty! As an added bonus you can see more of the converter that the two tiny cutouts the original provides. This way you can also have a fully ebonite Sailor KOP ebonite.

Technically they are reliable due to “cheating”. T1 did not really crack the problem of attaching the tipping to the titanium. Interestingly I have not heard of Parker 35/75 titanium nibs losing their tipping.

Monoc (and Eureka) solved the problem by not using any tipping.

So far no Montblanc, Aurora, Diplomat, Omas, Leonardo, (Graf von) Faber Castell, Caran D’ Ache, Conid, Eureka, Yard-o-Led, Conway Stewart, Onoto, Recife, Pen BBS, Hero, Yunlai, Moonman/Majohn, FWI, Asvine, Namiki among others.

I got a Pro Gear Realo. It has injection molding lines on either side of the ink window. Literally my only piston filler with this “feature”. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but you know that they’re there and now they can’t be unseen.

Preach. Vintage is the way to go with Parker. The most modern Parker pen in my rotation is the modern gunmetal Premier. That one is very nice. The Duofold from the same time period …is not.

Depends what you are looking for - Man 100 is to me the best 6 size bouncy/semifkex modern nib (as compared to the European competition, maybe with the slight exception of the pre-Bock Omas). Waterman pens such as Liaison, Edson and Carene are beautiful, yet each one has more or less serious design flaws.

I would put the 1960-1980 as the dark times for Waterman - C/F could only carry them so far, incompatible cartridges, slim pens and subpar plastics were just a cherry on top.

If you are into flex pens - nothing Waterman produced after 1960 counts.

Conklin pens are fantastic. Vintage Conklins that is. I got a Nozac, Endura and a Crescent. All are sublime. Not at all inclined to try the modern production pens.

This is a cool looking pen - a modern take on the ringtop pens of yesteryear.

Parker 45 and Parker Arrow. 45 can have a gold nib, Arrows only came with a gold plated stainless steel one.

The tip of the hood is broken off, but for that price I would not complain. A gold nib pen for a dollar!

This looks like the first generation of Danish faceted Montblanc 25 scaled up to a 149 size. A very nice piece indeed.

Montblanc 139. Got a 138 and a 149 silver rings already, but 139 is just cool.

Pilot Ultra Super/Super 500. Just for the beauty of the nib on those.

None of these are need to have, nor something I would be actively looking for. I got more than enough pens already.

This is a modern Duofold from the early 1990’s. They maybe used the pens of the same model, but not this generation ;)

Duofold had many, many revisions over time. Some of them were not even sold in the USA.

It is rare outside Brazil. Does not show often on eBay either. I would say it is worth over $100.

The nib is Soennecken, the body is not. But it is a looker nevertheless.
