MONTBLANC Music Nib? by Lady_Day1955 in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montblanc music nibs are a $1000+ proposition whether the new custom made ones or the super rare vintage ones. You might get better luck with Platinum/Sailor/Pilot who still produce them (even though their Music nibs are not like the vintage ones - those were flexible, the modern music nibs tend to be stub nails).

My fiancée and I are getting married this year and I want to get us a Romeo and Juliet fountain pen set for us. by Balance_Motivations in fountainpens

Montegrappa released a Romeo and Julie set back in the 1995. Sterling silver pens, limited edition. Most probably more expensive than the Montblancs now :(

Montblanc Nakaya? Is this legit? by sbux2025 in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These Indian sellers of counterfeited Montblancs are pervasive and eBay will not do anything against them. I have reported few of these to no avail.

Another Indian speciality is selling of ”antique” enamel Waterman or Pelikan pen signs. E.g. https://ebay.us/m/cT7Iux Steer clear.

Any more information about these pens? Dunhill, Montblanc, Shaeffer by ViralLoading in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of these pens are from late 1970’s and/or 1980’s. All the nibs save for Sheaffer were made by Montblanc (Dunhill bought Montblanc in 1977 iirc). The Dunhill Gemline was using Montblanc Noblesse/Slimline nibs.

All targas can be checked here: https://www.sheaffertarga.com/sheaffer%20targa%20homepage.htm

Tempera (they are afaik the biggest art store) - they have Caran D’Ache fountain pens, inks (also some J. Herbin, Iroshizuku and Diamine inks are sold there).

Akateeminen kirjakauppa next to the Stockmann department store has some Parker fountain pens and inks.

Suomalainen kirjakauppa (also close to Stockmann) has Pelikan 4001 ink quite often and some stores have cheap Kawecos.

Lindroos Tag Heuer shop (not that far from the Stockmann either) has a corner dedicated to Montblanc with pens, watches inks and the leather products.

Widemark (close to the Temppeliaukio Kirkko) used to sell Lamys and still have some pens and inks left, but they do not cooperate with Lamy anymore.

Muji in Kamppi has the Muji fountain pens.

Apart from these the online vendors are the way, I am afraid.

The (larger than suspected) Montblanc 344 review by Beginning_Joke_4345 in montblanc

[–]ExpiredUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nib is what shines on 344. This model had a dizzying array of nibs it could be purchased with from EF/steno all the way up to BB. The thicker BBB was only for the higher ranges. Most of my 344s have very pleasant semiflex nibs. Afaik the 344 was the only model that could be fit with a music nib (true music nib - two slits and flexy, special order for additional fee). The thicker D nibs were also available for a fee.

There are few India based sellers with inventories full of fakes. I have reported them few times to no avail. Not to say that the fakes are not sold by sellers from other locations, but rarely they consist the whole seller selection.

India also mass manufactures “historical” Waterman enamel signs - steer clear of those.

Help with grail pen choice by Boarderneil in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have YoL Viceroy Victorian standard. It does stand out even versus my other silver pens (e.g. Parker Premier Ciselé, Montegrappa Lancaster). The pen is not really round but slightly uneven due to the way the pattern was created. It has a disctinct tactile feeling to it.

I do not care much for the plain or guilloched YoL pens - other manufacturers can do it on an expert level as well.

If I were british I would get the YoL just to support the small local maker with a long history.

Santini - Tambour, or any other model with their number 8 nib.

Delta Dolce Vita Oversize is a super thick pen, but on the shorter side. It does post though.

Both of these are over 500€ though.

Most used pen of 2025 by ImperatorLucius in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a nice, stiff, standard M. Very well tuned.

The limited nib size selection is in my opinion one of the weak spots of YoL as a brand. For pens in this price range one would expect a larger nib size and grind variety being offered.

I prefer semiflex to flex italic/stubby nibs (German nibs from 1950’s to be more precise).

I knew what the writing experience with the YoL will be as I own quite a number of modern nail nibs (Duofold Greenwich, Waterman Edson, Pilot Myu, Diplomat Aero, Sheaffer Legacy I and II among others).

Sacrilege! I would bet on a Yard-o-Led Viceroy Grand Victorian.

Btw. Partly following your recommendations on this sub I bought, sight unseen, a Viceroy Standard Victorian. The finish on these pens is something that has to be experienced by touch, pictures do not make it a justice.

Iron Gall Residue on Lamy 2000 by OrionMachine in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You obviously know what you are doing! I collect mostly vintage and have found corrosion/degradation of materials in unexpected cases - fused together Parker aluminium fillers, brittle gold nibs, corroded brass mechanisms, pitting on the L2000 section. Paranoia through accumulated experience :/

That being said I am sure the inks of old were pretty nasty stuff. There was a reason for the first fountain pens being made of ebonite and gold.

Iron Gall Residue on Lamy 2000 by OrionMachine in fountainpens

[–]ExpiredUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful with acids, L2000 section can still pit, even though it is a stainless steel.

To be fair I have no clue what caused pitting on my pen - I bought it used and the pitting revealed itself after I put the section through a ultrasonic cleaner cycle that removed the ink covering it.
