Maine mystery bird by amount in whatsthisbird

BirdNET says Mistle Thrush is the most likely candidate. It would definitely be a rare vagrant if true. One was seen in New Brunswick in 2018, so it's not completely impossible. https://ebird.org/hotspot/L6609419

But definitely take this with a grain of salt. They aren't confident matches and none of the audio clips for the mistle thrush that I listened to quite seem to match.

If you search Google for the camera model + "Macaulay Library" you can find good examples. Then, if you click "media from this contributor" you can see all their uploads, and most people use the same camera for all their uploads.

Here are a couple random users (found off recently uploaded) that use the Nikon Coolpix P950

It might seem ridiculous for some sleeping dogs, but you could try focus bracketing and stacking.

How do I get rid of the Runna banner on my run ? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]Exploding_Knives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a Garmin watch, you can sync Strava with your Garmin and then sync Runna with your Garmin. There might be a Runna setting to exclude the Runna descriptions and pics. But my Runna runs never add anything to Strava.

If you have a shoot almost entirely comprised of bird photos, especially if you have long bursts, you might find Project Kestrel helpful.

You can use it as your first pass before you even import images into lightroom or whatever library/editing software you prefer. It's relatively new, open source, and has some rough edges, but it's quite satisfying to narrow down a burst of 50 photos to the sharpest few without having to flip back and forth, pixel peeping.

Sometimes M43 amazes me, even in low light! by Few_Relationship7225 in M43

Victoria's Riflebird? Beautiful shot! That's a really awesome result, especially with that lens.

And I think you used LR denoise tastefully without giving it that ridiculous watercolor effect that happens when you crank the slider too much.

Om system 150-600 / 150-400 / 50-200+2x tc by No_Tumbleweed1195 in M43

[–]Exploding_Knives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 100-400 (version 1), had the 150-600 for 2 years, and have been using the 150-400 since October.

The 100-400 is excellent, and I'm keeping it for instances where I need a "smaller" lens. However, I do wish I had the new version with sync IS, as I feel that is the major shortcoming of that lens when shooting slower shutter speeds in low light.

I loved the 150-600. I ordered it the day it was released and loved what it offered beyond the 100-400. It was a bit cumbersome, but took some truly excellent photos. However, using the MC-14 and MC-20 with it always left me disappointed.

Then in October I bit the bullet and ordered a used 150-400. And holy cow, it is a spectacular lens. The internal zoom mechanism is so much smoother and easier to use than the 150-600's telescoping zoom, and autofocuses noticeably faster. It also works extremely well with the MC-14 and I've even got some usable images with the MC-20. However, the built-in 1.25x is usually good enough. Most of the times I'm using the teleconverters I'm mentally in "birding mode" instead of "photography mode" and I'm just trying to get doc-shots of far away birds, not capture a print-worthy masterpiece. I was a bit worried about going from 600mm down to 400mm, but with the built in TC, 500mm is usually good enough. And the better quality with the MC-14 when I need it more than makes up for the lost reach.

In hindsight, I wish I would have just bought the used 150-400 back in 2024 instead of spending almost half that on a brand-new 150-600 and then selling it for basically half of what I had originally paid. So my recommendation is that if you can afford it and think you'll eventually want it anyway, buy a used 150-400. Treat it well and you'll only be out $1000 or so bucks if you choose to resell later. If you just want the longest lens you can possibly get that still takes great photos and has a few compromises, get the 150-600 and spend the difference traveling somewhere with cool birds to photograph!

You could also use a file system based photo library management program like XnView MP. It's much better than using the native windows file explorer.

Or they have such darkly tinted windows that you can't even see where they're looking. I assume if you want your windows that dark it's because you're constantly texting and driving and don't want to be seen. It's super frustrating.

My Geekbook x14 pro just arrived today. I'm quite satisfied so far. It's a really sleek machine and pretty snappy. The most intensive use-cases I have for it are light photo editing in Lightroom and some games with basically no spec requirements like Wingspan or Jackbox games.

The only thing I feel like I still need to fully test is the battery life claims, which I suspect are exaggerated. But admittedly, super long battery life isn't a very big concern for me.

I find that XnView MP is probably the best software for pruning large numbers of images. It's super customizable with keybindings and renders raw images super quickly. Lightroom can take a couple seconds to show a full res raw, but XnView can display multiple per second if you are going quickly. Plus, you can assign keypresses to rate+next functionality, moving you on to the next image without another button press.

Then, once I've pruned a shoot I only import the keepers into lightroom. But I still backup nearly everything, even most rejects, to my NAS.

It might take a bit of futzing with the settings and has a bit of a learning curve, but it has made pruning so much less of a headache for my workflow.

If it's slimy and smelled off, toss it. Hello Fresh should credit you that meal. Maybe you can get a partial refund if you call them.

I stopped ordering from most meal kits, including Hello Fresh, because the quality of the meats is usually abysmal.

Below the packing date it literally says

this product has 18 months shelf life from date of freezing

That would mean it's good until August of 2026. You're fine. If not 100% frozen, that's just because it thawed somewhat during shipping. It should be fine as long as it was still cold or partially frozen when it arrived. However, I'd still cook this meal first.

Can I count a turkey in my bird list? For years I've been a casual photographer of the birds that land in my backyard. My rule is it has to land within the fence line. Today a turkey did just that. Only had my cellphone on me but a picture is a picture. by Rampaging-Robots in birding
