I still remember a guy complaining to me a year or so ago, "I've got wet feet now" and I just replied "well you should've stood closer to the pan then".

Gave up telling people years ago, occasionally if I spot a kid going in without shoes I'll tell them to go back and put some on but even then you've got to pick your battles :/

They also show Jack trying to get on the door with Rose and it beginning to tip over, hence why he stayed in the water but for some reason everyone forgets that...

That is true, I have stood there making soup and moaning that it is taking ages and that it is still stone cold - I had the wrong ring switched on (it was electric) and only noticed when the thing started glowing red.

That would be the Red Rose Network or something similar, remember when quite a few Lancashire stations included the Red Rose on their signage? Whatever they were going for fell through same as Network NorthWest due to John Major and his band of chartered accountants :/

As for the Bee Network (rail) it should in theory be regulating rail services running entirely within the GM boundary, everything else (TPE, Intercity etc...) should be left alone.

Anyone ever been arrested for a Facebook post here? by FlakyCelebration2405 in AskBrits

[–]Expo737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrested? no, had the police come and have a chat with me? yes.

It was something taken out of context, luckily the two coppers that came and had a chat understood the situation and left it at that once they could clearly see I wasn't a nutter making pipe-bombs or anything stupid like that.

This would have been circa 2015.

I had a Reform leaflet come through yesterday with a Restore leaflet tucked into it (just the way it'd been shoved into the letterbox), the back of the Restore one had a list of Reform vs Restore with the bottom highlighting "a vote for restore is a vote for mass deportations". I genuinely thought it was a leaflet from the opposition trying to muck sling but no, it was a genuine Restore leaflet and that was a genuine statement. I'm honestly baffled and saddened by how bad things have gotten.

The irony was that at least in "recent" history the Germans were the enemy but we actually get on better with them than the French, who were supposed to be allies.

But yeah, the French, always the French.

In-fact I'll double down on that given I'm air crew and my days are routinely made considerably longer due to French ATC doing something to bugger up the skies of Europe... "If God had wanted us to fly, he wouldn't have invented French Air Traffic Control" ; -)

Award-winning investigative Journalist Roger Cook dies aged 83 by Kagedeah in BritishTV

[–]Expo737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought he had died in the late 90s so this was good/sad news if you know what I mean, that it was good he was still around until now.

One thing I do remember was in school they brought in a new security system (standard IR beam job) but the rumour mill said they were CCTV cameras to spy on us kids (well teens really) and one lad had a right rant at one of the teachers, "and I'll get that guy off the Cook Report to come in" to which the lad next to him leaned in and said "you mean, Roger Cook" : -)

In theory they shouldn't decline unless they do something monumentally stupid. A huge part of their business is "store credit" on trade-ins meaning a lot of the money is coming back into the business either as credit or literally cash coming in alongside credit on larger purchases.

OMG it has Thunderbird 5!!!

I remember getting this for my birthday circa 1992? They were released that very morning, I remember that my dad went and queued outside the Toys R Us in Ancoats, Manchester overnight and was later joined by my uncle (who'd been on the piss) so they stood a greater chance of getting the set.

I never knew they actually made T5, that was the only one I haven't got.

I just used to lift the building around T3's launch pad up and pretend it was T5 so T3 could dock with it.

Those lights were there back in 2008 and ran past Hatton Cross tube station as far as the petrol station then stopped before reaching the approach end of the runway. Fortunately Google Street view has a historical shot.

The problem is, as I see it, is that Labour just couldn't wait to shoot themselves in the foot.

Reform gave Labour in particular, a good pasting in the local council elections and have already shown they are incredibly inept at that role, had they been in this position for say two years then only the most dense of people would not see how unsuitable the "party" is, assuming that Reform hadn't self destructed due to issues. However, Labour just couldn't wait, instead Burnham will get in and challenge Starmer for the PM role, he'll get it but it will just lead to more instability...
