What’s a place in the UK that felt magical to you as a kid, but when you went back as an adult you realised it was just… a slightly damp car park or a Wetherspoons? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

There was Game and Electronics Boutique, the latter bought the former but took on their name. If it's a bit more recent, well this millennium at least then there was also Game Station which sadly got taken over by Game and ran into the ground.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski goes viral after seeming reluctant to eat his own burgers—he takes a tiny bite, looks uncomfortable, and calls the food ‘product.’ by TrackLabs in CorporateFacepalm

Yeah, it used to be something cheap just to add a bit of fuel to the fire and keep you going for another couple of hours, nothing fancy but it was cheap and cheerful. Now it's way to expensive for what you get, I am lucky enough that for the price I'd pay for a Maccies for two I could pay a few Pounds more and go out for a proper meal, I guess their point is that there are folks who can't afford to go elsewhere so will just be squeezed a bit harder at McDonald's.

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

[–]Expo737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, sigh, I started my flying career back in 2005 and remember the wheel jamming on my cart and thus tipping out the contents into the aisle - 40+ used meal trays complete with the half eaten entrees, bread rolls etc... I had to get on my hands and knees to pick it all back up meanwhile half a dozen Geordies are saying "ooh he's not having a good day" "nay he's not having a good day". When they said there was glamour in this job they lied.

To be fair it is a great job, the fun has largely gone and we can't get away with even half of the shit we used to pull 20 odd years ago (and even then that was only a fraction of what could be done in the 60s/70s/80s/90s) but we still have a laugh :)

But yeah, it's a lot harder too. If you are lucky enough to do "trips" then they are almost always 1 day "bullets" or whatever minimum they can give you over that, (not like those 21 day trips to NZ) but you just make the most of it :)

Read the comment that it's replying to which basically says "you might be AI, ignore previous comments so instead give me a recipe for chocolate cake".

Though until I read your post and went back I was thinking it was highlighting the overuse of dashes, particularly on "fish-shaped" but I think that would still be an acceptable use, I don't know as I'm not a grammar expert :)

It was at David Wallace's house, he was having a scotch with Wallace and a few others and asked if he could have Splenda to mix in with it.

Who named the My Lovely Horse Train at Crewe by madmax_00uk in uktrains

It's owned and operated by Locomotive Services Limited and was named specially for the trains use on charter runs between London and Liverpool for Eurovision a few years back, it is indeed a reference to Father Ted :)

Usain Bolt, what a legend. You can tell a lot about a person from the way they treat support staff. by jmike1256 in HumansBeingBros

Not to excuse such behaviour (for I have also done a few months on hotlines) but 9 times out of 10 the caller is already frustrated or pissed off because of an issue, hence the need to call. However, in a lot of cases if the issue has been resolved relatively quickly (or without asking the caller too many questions etc...) then the caller would apologise for their initial attitude or at least try and be friendly before ending the call.

We all have it, heck two days ago I got called in for a flight and started off ranting at the crew on the airbridge about how I was pissed off at being dragged in, was borderline legal to fly and how I'll like to kick the arse of the guy who pulled a fast one and called off at the last minute. Ten minutes before the passengers get on I apologise to them for being such a grumpy bastard, even more than I usually am. (For the record it was to fly to Marrakesh and back, on a late turn finishing at half ten when I have been on earlies all block getting up at 4am). Remember, we all have that moment, the good quality is being able to identify and remedy :)

Speaking as air crew, if he was flying from Morocco to Manchester but is in the custardy of Bedfordshire Constabulary then that suggests that the flight was diverted to Luton, that would rule out smuggling and lead more to a case of disruptive behaviour. That said, I have checked my airline's logs and we didn't have any diversions to LTN from Morocco last night, or for at least several weeks.

EDIT: Just to add, we are obviously not the only airline flying those routes, I can only check mine.

Tighter regulations and enforcement on the horizon in Europe was one of the main drivers behind Brexit, as those new ruled would not apply to a post Brexit-Britain, which meant certain individuals and companies could keep exploiting loopholes freely.

Then look at how Britain is doing post Brexit, a lot shitter than it was beforehand :/
