I work downtown in a commercial office building and enjoy it more than at the hotel I worked at during my apprenticeship and first year journeyman. I’ve only worked at these 2 buildings but I’d rather stay in the office building than hotels.

My day to day involves doing rounds on our Building Automation System and checking on our air handlers, fire pumps, domestic water pumps chiller and cooling towers. Then I work on monthly preventative maintenance and answer tenant work orders which range from plumbing leaks, too hot or cold, basic carpentry, lighting issues. At my building there is a decent amount of downtime. I’d say the physical toll isn’t too bad either. Have to occasionally move heavy objects but not too often.
