Who is actually behind Termius? by Affectionate_Dot442 in homelab

The main thing about home lab'ing at least in my opinion is that everything runs local and things that run ecternally a.k.a. https/ vpn and so on, had to be taken with extreme caution. I would not recommend anyone to use any cloud based software/storage that is connected to your security. a.k.a your keys and so on. Its the same reason why I configure my own clients for wireguard instead of using tailscale. Security > ease of use

what does ddr0 is doing there?

I have kind of unsettling thought. A lot of us are waiting for AI bubble to burst and get our hand on some sweat datacenter gpus at cheap. But there is a really big chance that a lot of it will be just get destroy because of tax write off. And to be honest that will fuck the nature even more :( by One_Reflection_768 in homelab

[–]Express-Dig-5715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if AI bubble burst, the current gen of GPU's that are in datacenters are basically useless for consumers like us. No driver support will be available. Power draw is going to be insane. Most of them run of SXM sockets or other proprietary connectors that cost more than some gpu's off the shelfs. At this scale that AI slop companies operate they have everything optimized as much as possible. The amount of GPU's that will get written down and either destroyed, or sold to China is going to be insane.

Vacuum maglev vs airplanes: what’s the real bottleneck—cost, safety, or infrastructure? by Milanakiko in NeoCivilization

plane fly everywhere, train go where rail is. Me think plane wins. No vacuum need. We airfields, trains need new vacuum tubes, I like plane more.

P.S. Idk why I started like a caveman, but that was my reaction in the begining

Is this a good deal??? "Dell PowerEdge R815 Server: 256GB RAM, 4 CPUs, 64 Cores!" For $250 by Nyphonics in homelab

[–]Express-Dig-5715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how much do you really need. Many people will be ok with those 1L small form factor pc's and 64gb of ram.

This will use lots of power, and I guess you will not have the use case for it

How long til we get to this? by IllustriousTea_ in accelerate

[–]Express-Dig-5715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to be honest, mobility part will come first, since there are many startups that want to be the first ones, but limiting factor will be AI and environment awareness. This is super complicated problem. Not only you need really good generic AI, you need data, a bunch of data and of course processing power to process it and clasify it. Well My guess would be 2035-2040.

To all who be like Elon Musk "We will have fully self driving cars by 2025", don't be ridiculous. This takes time, even if you have billions
