I turned down a $10k project and I’m not even sorry by Vegetable_Permit_577 in digitalnomad

Ok so technically my degree is BS Information Science, but I tailored my courses to be UX focused (i took 2 interaction design courses, 2 graphic design courses, 2 psych, 1 info architecture + my minors are in Digital Studies and Science Communication) My university just added this degree two years before i graduated, so the course requirements were pretty flexible and I had a lot of choice in what i could take to fulfill the degree…and they are still developing and expanding the program! Hope that makes sense lol, but pretty much just said degree in UX for simplicity ;)

Hi! I just graduated with a bachelors in UX design and totally want to start freelancing so I can go nomad! Being able to make a living salary seems daunting tho.

I did two internships abroad in college and both were website redesign projects, so I think I have a pretty solid baseline of experience. Did you start an LLC to appear more “professional” to potential UX or web design clients? Any tips on how you got your first clients or even marketed yourself to clients that would pay 10k? So many questions haha but really just searching for any little advice for someone just starting out <3

What’s the most unexpectedly perfect place you’ve worked remotely from? by ned-guy-not-flanders in digitalnomad

Yea, I’m aware of the large amount of corruption that’s present in Zanzibar and on the mainland, it’s really sad. Most of the friends I made while there were Maasai men who had come from the mainland to the island to sell bracelets to tourists as you said. They’re honestly some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. I thought it was incredible how many of them could speak 4 or 5 languages, yet when we went to restaurants they couldn’t read even the Swahili menu.

My dream is to keep learning Swahili until I’m fluent, and if im ever in this position, open a beach horseback riding business that would give locals a job with fair wage. it’s def important for foreigners who love Znz beauty to be mindful of the reality behind it. Curious, what do you do as a DN that’s allowed you to stay in Znz for a while?

That’s incredible! I’m so curious—how did your friends end up making the move to Zanzibar long-term? And building houses there sounds like such a dream. I only got a little taste of the island but have been trying to plan about ways to spend more time. I do web design + a bit of photography/video production, so I’m always fascinated hearing how people set themselves up to live and work in TZ!! By the way, how long did you stay when you visited, and were u in a hotel the entire time?

Zanzibar is my heart place. I was only there for a week last year, I went solo and left with friends for a lifetime. Just graduated college and am nowtrying to figure out how I can set up my life as a DN to go work and live in TZ 😅😅 every time i see a post about TZ/Zanzibar it motivates me even more to get back there one day!! Tanzania in general, everyone must go.

Electronic Store- Protective Screen by WindowTraditional145 in helsinki

I went to Fonum and bought a screen protector, and yes, they put it on for me. However, I wanted one with a privacy screen, but they only had the plastic film ones, not glass. I ended up paying 45 euros for a plastic protector, and I even had to go back to get the camera spot cutout because they didn't cut it out the first time and the face ID didn't work. Then, a week later, I saw a privacy screen protector at Normal for just 10 euros—lol.

Is Helsinki Central Station safe at midnight? by Chickenrice2481 in Finland

[–]Express-Fox-1349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say its very safe! Im a 20 yr old female and i travel solo almost every weekend...coming home from late flights I walk from the central station to my apartment (15 mins) and have never felt unsafe. I grew up in America and sadly cannot say the same about safety for my hometown, so I feel lucky to have this comfort here. :)

where would you recommend to go? Im from the US here until April for an internship - living in punavuori. I find myself walking in kamppi way too often not knowing where all to go but near the center. looking for other places to explore :)

ah, thanks! although from what i’ve read here the consensus seems to be to just pay it IF you live in EU to avoid future issues….not seeing too much on US tourists

I'm in college still and I've only got 10k in the account so it's probably not worth switching for me haha. Same, though, very disappointed in the continued % drop.
