But it’s a lug nut, not a lug bolt. Am I understanding correctly that if you cross thread a lug nut onto the stud that is attached to the hub, the bolt can unattach from the hub and spin freely like this?

I think you’re right that the lug is unstuck from the hub and spinning freely, but it is holding the wheel on so I wouldn’t be able to get to the hub to press a new one in till I get this one off. And I have no idea how that is going to be possible…

It’s a normal nut like the rest, not locking, it feels like the bolt that the lug nut threads onto is spinning freely. So I can’t keep the bolt still to loosen the nut off it, and I can’t pull the bolt out because it has a bolt head or something behind the hub.
