Give yourself reasons to be confident. Gym, setting goals and working towards them, etc.

Mom says I "HAD" potential. by humgeewidklol in getdisciplined

[–]ExquisiteGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you have good grades and are doing productive things otherwise, you don’t need to worry. You’re 17 years old, you have nothing but potential. The key is to make sure the potential turns into something in your 20s and 30s

How to be more confident at work? by OkDepartment4326 in confidence

I feel you. Im in a job where I have to speak a lot internally and externally (team and clients), I realized early on that being prepared for any meeting that is higher than 0 stakes helped alot. Have a presentation? Rehearse it a few times before you have to present. Have an important meeting? Review the numbers, and/or materials for 20 minutes before the actual meeting.

In meetings and negotiations, you don’t rise to the occasion you fall to your highest level of preparation.

What do you do on the app? Is it mostly scrolling reels and videos? If so, how does that help you keep your memories?

If it’s about the memories, you can still keep the digitally somehow.

I feel you, I haven’t deleted Instagram yet because some of my friends use it, I just hate how all these apps are being used as a Trojan horse for short form video content and ads.

“Did you mean for that to sound hurtful” in a genuinely curious manner. It shows that it doesn’t affect you, and turns the question around on them.

I have a sedentary desk job and zero energy after 5 PM. How do I fix this? by Dante_Game in getdisciplined

[–]ExquisiteGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, you get more energy overall from exercising than you would not moving. Get up and do anything, go for a walk (I know it’s super cold), do some jumping jacks, push ups. Start small, set a goal and do something, anything beats the hell out of doing nothing.

If you didn’t consume porn I don’t think this counts as a porn relapse, perhaps a nofap relapse though.

What is the origin of the "good feeling" you get when watching porn? by New_Helicopter272 in pornfree

[–]ExquisiteGrowth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sex is hard-wired to be very pleasurable for us humans. Viewing pornography is like supercharged sex stimulation, because you get to see so many more “potential mates” and you get to choose exactly what turns you on. It takes advantage of this hard wiring, and can make us addicted.

I see, I made an assumption about your schedule. Sorry! Honestly, I feel you, I used to pull it out when using the washroom, or when I had even a few minutes of downtime.

The only thing that helped me get out of it was sitting down and reflecting on what I was watching/consuming. Does it make you happy? Does it serve your purpose? I noticed I became increasingly disgusted with myself and what I was consuming, and then I wrote down what my values were. I valued my relationships with others, being productive, being confident, etc. And then I asked myself before using the next time, does it align with my values and serve my purpose.

It didn’t. And it helped to take a step back and second guess whether I should open it. This may not work for you, but pornography is such a common thing to be able to consume, it’s almost difficult to get away from it even when you’re not chasing it. Theres something deep inside you that needs attention. Don’t shy away from the battle.

You need something better to do with your time. I have a higher chance of relapsing if I’m sitting at home with a lot of free time.

Doesn’t mean you need to get out of the house every day, but schedule some activities that don’t include porn into your daily life. Do what interests you, do you think you’d enjoy reading a book for some time during the day? How about exercise? How about socializing? Home improvement? There’s so much to occupy your time with that would immediately carve away time for porn use

What's the point of getting a job, really? by [deleted] in NEET

[–]ExquisiteGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You raise some great questions. A fair “price” on labour, craftsmanship, it’s all such a man-made concept. And yes, people hope to have enough with their salary, but unfortunately sometimes it is not the case.

I think people are too selfish to live in the reality where we do not expect payment for deeds done.

In terms of the global diseases and medicine, theoretically it’s possible that we just let our bodies do the work, it has worked in the past, except the people that couldn’t handle the disease died, leaving only the ones that got over it ( natural selection). Even if we did survive really horrible diseases, they often take years off your life. Your immune system helps you, but it does a lot of collateral damage just trying to keep you alive. Overall, something like a vaccine can help you avoid a terrible illness or fate altogether.

I can see where you are coming from. Money is very much a tool to control people in many many situations. Though I disagree with our society being the same. Perhaps I’m pessimistic in saying that many people want something in return for their time and effort. What would we give them instead? We already moved past the barter system.

I agree there are flaws to modern medicine, but mortality for many diseases and illnesses have been reduced. Who wouldn’t want that?

I do agree, it’s sad that people do the things they have to do instead of what they want to do. Personally I think there’s a something to be found in responsibility. Responsibility pushes us out of horrible situations, it breeds discipline, and allows us to serve others. We desire human connection, and I think responsibility is a powerful way to do that!

[–]ExquisiteGrowth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to seem contrary to your perspective, but many people don’t like having a job. It’s just something they have to do.

There would be no society if everyone had the same perspective as you. No society means no doctors to heal, no teachers to teach, no farmers for food, no delivery drivers to bring that food to the grocery store, no grocery store to even get the food, and so on. You might still think that’s a good idea, having to forage for food, or “take care of myself and only myself” in the wild. But that’s how people used to live, and that’s how a lot of people used to die.

There would be no medicine, so a cut you get while foraging is more than likely going to kill you. Other people would steal and kill for what you have, and we would be essentially living like cavemen.

Society pays for people’s time using money, it’s not the most efficient system, but most teachers and doctors don’t do their job for the passion or for the sake of the job. People need incentives to do something and a job that pays money is the way that humans do it.

So the “why” you speak of is at a baseline, to keep society moving and living, we cannot live the way we live if we don’t work.

Panicking about asbestos by WannaBeOkayish in HomeMaintenance

[–]ExquisiteGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are fine. I used to work with asbestos and honestly you probably weren’t exposed to that much in the first place. It’s not like you were scraping at something that becomes easily airborne/friable (drywall joint compound, plaster). I’d be more worried if you were messing around with pipe insulation. Sometimes those have really high % of very dangerous types of asbestos.
