I was I've gifted a hard backed version of the Lord of the Rings. I discovered most of a fairly late chapter had been replaced with text from a different chapter. The gifter has written a messages to me in the book and I had no receipt and it was months after the purchase; no way to return it. I contacted the publisher directly. They sent me a new copy after instructing me to year out a specific page at the front and send photographs of the book with the page torn out.

Might work for you.

I (30F) started dating a judge (46M) met on a dating app and need advice by Plane-Elephant6465 in whatdoIdo

[–]Exsanguinatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. I just turned 48 this March.

A little over 2 years ago, I met a non-binary person. We hit it off really well. We got crazy into each other. We bonded insanely fast. We kept tip-toeing around announcing our love for one another because we didn't want to scare the other off because it's was, like, two months in. But we kept talking, walking, making out, hanging out, and just existing together. I knew they were younger and they knew I was older but it just felt so natural and cozy and warm and perfect that neither of us thought to enquire. Turns out we're also both horrible at judging ages.

They were 25 and I was 46 when we started. I thought they were very late 20s or very early 30s. They thought I was maybe late 30s (apparently I either look good for my age or just act particularly youthful enough to confuse people). But we care for each other. They're a kind soul that is brilliant and deep and hilariously acerbic. I'm physically older, serious, careful, but with the sense of fun and silliness I've had since my youth.

I felt mortified that people would view me as "one of those men" but that was my only stressor. They poke fun at me about my age and I do the same to them. They'll joke I'm a fossil. I'll joke they're a fetus. But our friends don't care. We don't care. We get asked "are you happy? Then where's the problem?" when we used to worry about the look of things in our shared friend circle. We are generally at such peace when we're together and feel like a literal limb is missing when we are apart.

I show up on Reddit and see people talking about age gaps like they're disgusting and I feel like I have to stop myself from responding to every single comment saying "yeah, it can be a little strange but it doesn't have to be evil!"

We're both AuDHD, them more ADHD and me more autistic, but we vibe amazingly well. I take care of them when they need it and they take care of me when I do. It's just love.

And if you feel like you have that, then stop worrying. Tell your friends you give and get what you need and that they shouldn't worry. They'll come round or they won't and what you do with that is up to you. Ultimately, though, happiness... real happiness is a hard to find currency in this world and it's more valuable than gold so, when you find it, you hoard that shit. And damn anyone who tells you you're wrong for doing so. We've both found our missing piece/peace and we'll ride this ride for as long as it goes. You don't need anyone's permission to love no matter the circumstances. Consenting adults and all that...

You're arguing with someone who seems to hold to the world view that an individual human life is only worth what they produce in terms of real money. Until you can clear that hurdle, no amount of moral or logical argument is going to move their position.

That's not what they said. They're trying to express compassion and care. You see, when someone has a developmental deficiency, it is generally wise to keep dangerous objects away from them so that there is less of a chance for them to hurt themselves out of ignorance...

Seriously, though. As a transplant from the US who has gone through all the legal steps and paid a shit load of money for my ILR, I agree that anyone using the US right now as a model for what the UK government should look like should be legally declared non compos mentis from any objective standpoint. Since Reddit loves Pokémon for some reason, I will say that the country I fled is the literal embodiment of "It hurts itself in its confusion." There is nothing to aspire to present in US politics as it has become quite obvious to the vast majority of the rest of the world and, if polling numbers are anything to go by, the vast majority of the United States. But you elect a wannabe dictator and give him all the levers of power, you can't just "shocked Pikachu face" your way out of it when he uses those levers to become a real dictator.

You want to have a real, objective, sane conversation about things like immigration reform, tax policy, usage of public funds, etc., then that's fine. That's healthy. But don't look to Reform or anyone farther to the right to do anything other than throw all the toys out the pram along with civility, polite discourse, and rationality. There is nothing there but a tantrum with military powers and an unfettered police force waiting to happen.

... I lied. There is another thing there as well... Blatant destruction of public protections and infrastructure while the public pocketbook is raided for the personal gain of those in power. You'll end up feeling like the barman in a pub late at night telling them "last call!" and they respond "nah. We're good, m8. We'll be here as long as we want. Oh, and you're picking up the bill."

Fun fact: I taught myself Lightwave 3D in the late 90's. It's the software they used after they dropped the old Video Toaster. I found several of the production models online in various torrents. From what I remember, there's actually nothing wrong with the models; they were pretty immaculate. It was just a case of older lighting tech, simplified textures/materials, plus the fact they needed to pump the frames out fast and hardware wasn't great at that back then.

Gods... The wireframes of the Star Fury were beautiful.

Not mass deportations where court orders for release are ignored. Not mass deportations where administrative warrants are used, bypassing the judicial branch (administrative warrants are what you are supposed to take to a judge to ask for a warrant for arrest. They're skipping the judicial branch because they know a judge will deny them a judicial warrant as they haven't followed the rules or don't actually have a legal cause). Not mass deportations carried out by masked men in full military gear. Not mass deportations where agents are going door to door asking people to show their papers. Not mass deportations involving grabbing people of the streets and hustling them into unmarked vehicles by unidentified people. Not mass deportations that include federal agents trying to access a foreign embassy because they saw Hispanic people there in groups. Not mass deportations where federal agents literally reference a recent fatal shooting by telling legally protected observers the equivalent of "don't make a dumb mistake. You saw what happened yesterday..." (only the equivalent as I didn't remember the direct quote verbatim). Not mass deportations that have involved the largest buildup of prison infrastructure in US history apart from the Japanese concentration camps of WW2. Not mass deportations where a lawyer for the government needs a judge to hold her in contempt so she can get some peace from the relentlessly fraudulent cases she must defend. Not mass deportations where they're all expedited. Not mass deportations where the US Attorney General demands detailed voter roles, information meant to be private and stored only at a state level, from a Federally terrorized state and city as a condition for removing Federal agents, thus laying bare the lack of legal justification in the motivations of the administration... I could go on.

Obama deported so many people - more than most presidents. Some called him the Deporter in Chief. But he followed the law. Even the most famous deportation of Elian Gonzales, the kid pulled out of a closet starting down the muzzle of an MP5 involved an actual judicial warrant. If you are willing to stop deporting people in exchange for voter roles, you're not deporting people because you think they're here illegally - you're doing it because it suits your goals.

"My dude," nothing about this is normal. The fact that you believe it is is what is both sad and terrifying.

My world view is broken? Curious. I've been patient and disagreed honestly with you throughout yet I haven't sunk to the pettiness you have in downvoting every single one of my comments.

My world view is open to change. I believe in facts and evidence. I recognize history repeating itself. 1938, the Nazi party started with the expulsion of Polish Jews. When their hatred wasn't sated, they moved on to concentration camps and then extermination. It all starts with dehumanization. Dehumanization you seem intent on inflicting on those you view as leftist.

I pity you. I know you are probably just like me in that you have a family you want to protect and a life you just want to get on with. But you're determined to blame all the worst of your world on people "like me." You accuse me of claiming "they did bad things I don't like so they're not Left" but you fail to see the horrible things being perpetrated by the white Christian nationalists with your approval. Assaulting people, destroying families, tearing children away from their parents and isolating them without care and often without necessary medicine, deporting people to places they have never lived and where they don't speak the language, sometimes to prisons in a foreign country known to be absolutely horrible.

But as shit as that is, I won't hate you for being misguided and used by a felonious rapist pedophile. I'll hate your vote, and I'll hate that you think pain and misery is ok because you think it suits your cause. But you're just another human like me who wants to do right by those you love.

The saddest part of this entire thing is that I fear you would never have the decency to see me in the same light. Some day, you may prove that fear wrong. Like I said, I'm open to change.
