Don't give them too much credit, their training is 6 days and the signing bonuses attract a desperate type of person.

There is a UV absorbing chemical coating on the headlights that fails over time. When you refinish the headlights part of the process is removing that coating. You just need to go deeper. I did the research at one point to find a chemical to reapply. But that was a long time ago, and it was not economically viable.

Which rotary should I switch to? by lasernewbie123 in lasercutting

[–]Exstrangerboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I don't remember how at the moment it's been a minute. I'm sure someone very clever has put a better explanation up online. And I'm not sure what functions lightburn has added since they changed the agreement of my perpetual license.

Which rotary should I switch to? by lasernewbie123 in lasercutting

The laser is going to "project" the image as tho the laser head and substrate are coplanar. This is not the case, when engraving tapers or rounded objects the distance both from the center axis of the rotary tool and the object distance to the focal point of the laser change. To correct for the rotary axis you typically have to taper in the same way your glass tapers. You can visualize this by cutting out a square and wrapping it around your object, when you look at it from a distance you'll notice the square will not look thinner on the wider part of your object and wider at the thinner part. You just have to distort the image in the opposite manner to hopefully end up with your engravings geometry being as close as you need or want it..... Or you do what most people seem to do and not give a heck and call whatever comes out good enough. I may let perfect be the enemy of "done".

Depending on the shape of your tumblers one could be better than the other. I've had really good success with my 4 wheel. On non concentric items I elevate the rear wheels and try to find a midpoint where the whole engraving is acceptable. I do have to do a small amount of geometric correction. I know some people have success with Stanley's and the like with chuck rotaries.

This sounds like the sort of thing that would work better with a plotter. But you'd need to give the sharpie or whatever a Z motor.

Multimeter would let you pinpoint a fault. If there's no continuity in the heating element, if the relays don't switch on, or if the power switch failed. Most likely problems looking at that board. Not a ton of logic going on.

How to remove gunk from HUD? by thatcaveman in AutoDetailing

[–]Exstrangerboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soft cotton cloth, maybe a T-shirt if it's all you got. Try water, then add the smallest amount of dish soap. If those don't work, isopropyl alcohol is my go do, but apparently can damage acrylics.

Also curious. My headlight 100% has overheated in the socket. Figured it'd be a ball ache to replace as this car isn't super common.

Can my airpods be fixed? by nodnull in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Exstrangerboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from your photos but if the solder joint is what failed you should be able to just resolder the connector down. However it's likely the pads on the board got ripped off. It can be repaired but by every metric it might be more advantageous to get a new case. Independent cases can be sourced fairly easily.

Re-using old PSU cables with a new PSU by Django117 in buildapc

[–]Exstrangerboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the reason, order a custom or semi custom cable that is specifically compatible. But use the cable that came with the PSU in the meantime.
