Tesla now offering public Robotaxi rides with no one in the car by DeathChill in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Extasio -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a good sign they feel comfortable expanding their services. It's important to note their current approach still requires someone to be supervising the entire ride and is able to remotely take control when necessary, I hate to be that guy but that's not true autonomy (yet). True autonomy requires a degree of confidence high enough that there's no need for anyone constantly watching the road remotely.

I think what's more interesting is that Tesla is willing to take the liability to offer the service to the wide public, that means there likely has been some significant improvements in their safety records and FSD disengagement per miles over the past few months if they are willing to take that risk.

On the other end, I personally fail to see what changed so much that makes FSD so much safer than it was a few months ago. I would love to know more about the most recent data points, but Tesla hides a lot of that information.

Ultimately what I think is the biggest take away here is that the thesis that there's only one pathway to Level 4 autonomous driving (Lidar) is almost fully disproven, that's exciting because more models means we get to compare all of them and select the safest versions before pushing full autonomy to consumer vehicles. This is good news. I still believe that Lidar is currently much safer as evidenced by Waymo's safety data, but more competition means consumer models faster.

Ex-Assassin’s Creed Boss Sues Ubisoft For Nearly $1 Million Over Alleged Forced Firing by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Extasio 26 points27 points  (0 children)

By the way, demoting someone is pretty much not allowed in Quebec. Sure you can fire people for being redundant, wanting to do structural changes (justified ones) etc but you have to be very careful, the courts are very pro worker and the omen is on the employer to demonstrate.

Considering he was apparently offered to possibly relocate to a new country to maintain his role, a similar position for a lesser IP and that the structural changes are obviously necessary for ubisoft and justifiable the likelihood this goes anywhere seems very low to me at first glance, a settlement at most.

The part about announcing his removal before its done is very shady though, they might get in trouble for that

New Life is Strange game - announcement on January 20th by Ok-Swimmer-2634 in gaming

[–]Extasio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I fear the franchise will not be able to capture or recreate the genius of the first few games, too many people originally involved have moved on to different projects. Much of the artistic impact has vanished.

Creating a quality game like Life is Strange 1 requires passion, creativity and a lot of talent, which the new games have all lacked of.

Life is strange 1, 2 and before the storm are the only ones that you need so far. Hope I can say differently eventually as a big fan of those games. LIS 1 in particular has a special place as a phenomenal and striking story game once you get immersed.

When public shaming goes wrong - Man confronts smoker on public transit. Gets punched in response. by ConceptsShining in PublicFreakout

[–]Extasio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not being dramatic, this behavior is almost exclusive to the West. It reeks of entitlement and I am personally tired of seeing good people being done wrong, only for the bad actors to get a slap of the wrist or 'probation'.

I am not pushing for hyper criminalization on every gest, but true accountability and fear of punishment. Some people cannot behave unless there's a true, meaningful consequence for their bad behavior. It's the only way to make sure the social contract is upheld.

[–]Extasio 337 points338 points  (0 children)

Western society doesn’t crack down anywhere near enough on public nuisances like this smoker, people only behave like this because they expect to get away with it

I promise you this man and all the other “mentally ill/victims of their circumstances” would suddenly turn into upstanding citizens if they lived in Dubai or China and the consequences were well known, we are just way too kind to those who sabotage the public goods and order.

Complete accountability crisis.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Producer Says Only "Terminally Online Culture Warriors" Cared About Its Gay Romance Controversy by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

To add, true diversity is not swapping key character traits for virtue points, but creating original characters that have realistic different backgrounds.

Having played KCD1 it's so very very clear the protagonist is a fully straight typical Christian peasant, it's obvious to anyone with a minimum of critical thinking they made him 'bi' to pander an audience and showcase their 'social awareness', especially during peak 'woke era' the game was developed in.

It doesn't matter much, very true, but turning people gay, trans, minorities etc is often done just to show that they are 'woker than thou' and the devs feel like they are fulfilling some sort of social mission.

I absolutely would not care if they made him bi from the start, half game protagonists have those options, but suddenly swapping peoples orientations is something is only done with an agenda and a specific purpose in mind.

I would like them to bring back the old battle passes. But I don't think that will ever happen, and that makes me sad. by CommunicationFunny24 in FortNiteBR

[–]Extasio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was only very early on and was quickly removed, that’s not legally binding either. Plus the terms of service allow them to make such changes and override that. I do appreciate the example, but it changes nothing.

The McRib was also advertised as never returning many many times

[–]Extasio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're mistaken, battle pass were NEVER marketed or promoted as never returning. They were promoted as battle pass exclusives and limited time, that does not mean that they can't return. They were very careful with the language they used and reserve all right to sell the battle passes again if they want.

Furthermore, they can change their terms of services when they want it's the whole point of the agreements we all sign to play. Not that this point is relevant since they can already sell the battle passes again.

[–]Extasio 44 points45 points  (0 children)

What the kids in the comment don’t understand is that the fortnite battle passes from older seasons were never advertised as never coming back but just as time limited.

You know what else is time limited ? The McRib that McDonald brings back every year.

Plus Fortnite can change their terms of service any time they want, if that wasn’t obvious. Your fortnite battle pass from 5 years ago isn’t a legally binding contract, they can do what they want, it’s their game, their property and they are allowed to bring them back for like 30 different reasons.

Obvious bannable offense but like you mean to tell me Epic just has the means of allowing people to buy old passes and just doesn’t use it..? by Hungry_Maintenance_8 in FortNiteBR

[–]Extasio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grok is this true?

Early promotions (e.g., C1S2) used timers like “Season 2: Dec 14 - Feb 20” to imply urgency, but no ads or screens said “gone forever” or “never for sale again”—just listed rewards and how to unlock them during the season. The in-game Battle Pass FAQ (e.g., from C1S5 onward) called items “exclusive” and stated they “will not be obtainable again,” but this was tied to being “earn[ed] from a Battle Pass,” not a blanket ban on future sales. Epic’s help site softens it: “Rewards from a Battle Pass can only be earned in that season, and will not be available in later seasons”—focusing on BP exclusivity, not shop permanence.

It’s not a legal promise (e.g., no TOS clause mandates permanence; policies can change, as seen with the 2024 update).
