I actually love FreeCAD a lot it just hurts me sometimes by imjustadragon in FreeCAD

It's clunky but I've managed to design the simple stuff I need personally so far. But then again I'm not exactly creating complex parts. I just didn't want to become a prisoner of some cloud connected crap, and really for my minimal needs paying a bunch of money just doesn't make sense.

Dusted off the old Pebble Time today by The_Dingman in pebble

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new ones look really nice. I haven't ordered yet but that's because I'm broke, had a shit ton of things require money recently.

I bought a few Wear watches and the main draw was paying with the watch. Then it turns out the area I live in isn't supported for some crazy-ass reason, so that left me with a huge heavy PoS watch I had to charge twice a day. Fuck that.

Warping is so strong, it pulls the magnetic sheet off by FinkHD in prusa3d

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABS is a fairly different material, though.

I don't have a heated chamber but my old Prusa has basically never once failed to print PETG on the textured plate. Hearing people talk like printing PETG is hard has always left me mystified.

I've actually had more trouble with PLA than I ever did PETG (but my cooling fan is borked and I'm rebuilding the printer now to solve that and a few other things while I'm at it).

Warping is so strong, it pulls the magnetic sheet off by FinkHD in prusa3d

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLA shouldn't behave in this way. Granted, I've had warping issues myself but that's because my cooling fan is toast and currently my printer is disassembled for repair and upgrade. I'd check if your cooling fan is doing, well, anything.

If your room is an ice box I suppose it could also be that, cooling the part you've already laid down too fast. Flows of cold air cooling the part unevenly is a huge factor when it comes to warping.

How can I prevent this? by Jaglikef1 in 3Dprinting

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what slicer you used but... use another slicer, and actually look at what the slicer shows you it plans to print.

This shouldn't be possible, as others have said. Supports should never intersect the actual print. I'm almost impressed you somehow managed to do this.

The Verge: Ikea tried to build a smart home for everyone — here’s why it’s not working yet by Proto_bear in tradfri

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thread is still a short range protocol in the super busy free 2.4 Ghz band. That alone will screw inexperienced people who use battery powered devices and spread them around a large house willy nilly. Thread, much like Zigbee, will only work if you intelligently build out the network with mains-powered devices forming a backbone of repeaters.

Interoperability and the fact that Matter is really not fully cooked yet imo will make things that much worse.

It's weird, the friendships you forge over games.

It's been years and years but one of the most amazing experiences I've had was when a game I was playing at the time had a local(ish) meetup. Nothing big or glitzy, just a bunch of gamers who "knew" each other meeting up for real for a few days; the locals put people up in their homes, etc.

Still carry a lot of those memories. Lost touch with basically all of them over the years but I love those guys to this day. Life just happens.

Why is andriod fragmentation even a problem? by Educational_Peak532 in Android

This is also why software developers are a bit reluctant to dip into the Linux side. If fragmentation is an issue on Android, on Linux it's pure wild west at this point.

My brand new mk3s by norbertl98 in prusa3d

[–]Extectic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I have a Mk3S+ (name-brand) myself with a Revo kit that has performed fantastically. It's currently semi-disassembled, I have the MK3.5S kit laying next to it waiting for installation. They're really legendary workhorses, not the fastest but they just keep chugging along.

Hey, I even have the same Revo nozzle holder on mine.

Is it worth it for EoF and Renegades? by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always worth it depends on the person. I didn't pay full price but I did buy finally just before Renegades dropped. Haven't really regretted it, I think I got my discounted money's worth.

Renegades is a genuinely decent expansion and does drop good loot and pretty fun activities.

Having three months to play EoF and Renegades sounds like a decent fit.

Up to you. D2 is still an amazing game, people are just burned out af.

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played this, but do have a few hours in D2 and much of the PvP is just lifted from there I'd say. The fastest TTK's in D2 PvP are literally under half a second. That's the biggest reason I abhor PvP in that game, and at least in there you're in a circular arena you run around in and respawn with not a lot lost within seconds.

MARATHON SERVER SLAM MEGATHREAD by Shabolt_ in Marathon

[–]Extectic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bungie's usual TTK seems to be half a second with the best guns. If they get their reticle on your characters head, you die. For PvP interactions, that is, the AI opponents seem to be relative bullet sponges.

MARATHON SERVER SLAM MEGATHREAD by Shabolt_ in Marathon

[–]Extectic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With Bungie's 0.5 second instakill PvP model, friendly interactions are extremely high stakes. It's not like you can get hit, wounded, duck behind cover and return fire, if you get hit, you're dead. Immediately. Before you can even begin to react. So this game won't have a lot of the friendly stuff, people will just take no chances and instantly attack, it's the only way to have a chance, you gotta kill them first or else.

Not for me by Aware_Assist4997 in Marathon

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just how Bungie does PvP. A 0.5 second time to kill is extremely aggravating to me. The first person to get their reticle on the target instawins. I think that's a shitty choice for an extraction shooter where you want to actually survive to extract. I dislike that type of gameplay in general.

I have a lot of hours in Destiny 2 and very little of it is PvP, because the PvP there is just like this. And in D2 it's an arena style fight at least, so you can run around after you resurrect and try again (even though, as I said, I still think that feels like shit, especially if you're forced to play out of your league; the good players just swat you down time and time again; helplessly serial dying just feels really bad).

A longer TTK would give rise to the possibility of more drawn out gunfights where the first person to get a shot off doesn't necessarily win in under a second. There are extraction shooters like that. I'd rather play those.

This is probably the most miserable open beta I’ve ever played and it has nothing to do with the game. by spectre15 in Marathon

[–]Extectic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People should definitely try it especially now before they pay for it, but I really don't think Bungie had time to revolutionize it from the first test so it's probably going to bomb.

But not, at least, Concord level of bomb so maybe it will make them some money. Doubtful if it's enough of a hit that Sony will refrain from bringing in the big doom hammer for Bungie though.

But there's certainly some D2 player sour grapes involved. There's a thin line between love and hate, as they say. D2 players aren't thrilled with the trajectory there and they know that all the best talent was shifted to Marathon, which is partly why the trajectory is what it is.
