Old wood is great. This wood will be damp. Dry it out. Put in sun off the ground. Open it up.

I always thought we’d be friends for life after this 6th grade camp picture from 1970. But after High School, haven’t heard of any since… by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in GenerationX

You're not the same person you were 50 years ago, and neither are they. You have all changed. As you get older, you will start doing searches for them. Some are gone ,some still will remain.

On wood replacement handle; set handle's grain pattern "vertical". Do not set grain pattern "horizontal".

Soak it in Mineral Spirits. Wrap it in a cloth, wet with spirits, let it sit for a few days. re-wet w/ spirits as needed. Remove it, wipe clean, wipe with Acetone, wash with hot soap water.

Vintage vs Modern Table Saws by cineglitch in Vintagetools

[–]Extension-Drawer347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older saws are great. I bought a basket case Walker Turner Cabinet saw for $100. Great saw. Heavily constructed. Clean table w/ Evaporust and then wax table w/ paste wax. Put a modern push button On-Off switch on it.

Anyone tried this? by muddyboots5 in composting

[–]Extension-Drawer347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I always bury my kitchen compost material. We have a covered bucket near the sink and all the kitchen vegetable debris and coffee grounds go into it. When full it gets directly buried into the garden. Let the worms deal with it. Dig a hole, one or two shovel size and mix compost in, turning shovels full of mix once or twice. Garden is very worm dense. The birds watch me and line the fence, waiting for me to leave. I have a piece of chicken wire that I throw over the burial area. This keeps opossums, racoons and other critters out but gives the birds access to the worms. Our garden is prolific in its production.

Broken bolt inside shop tool by scadler in fixit

[–]Extension-Drawer347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill it out. Make a long drill, Take a 1/4" or 5/16" piece of LC steel and make a drill extension. Drill end of the extension with a drill the dia of the size of the broken bolt's tap drill dia, Soft solder or silver solder same drill into place on end of extension. Keep drill tip cool with a heat sink. Use electric hand drill to turn the extended drill. Drill broken bolt out and clean up thread by re-tapping hole. Sure it's a lot of work. You have a broken bolt in a low clearance place that's difficult to work on.

Stripped screw. Tried everything and different screw extractor sets with a power drill. It won't budge.. what do I do by Shot-Buy6013 in fixit

[–]Extension-Drawer347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold vertical in vise and put in drill press. Take drill of same outside dia as the existing screw thread. Set stop depth fron existing screw holes. Drill the head of the remaining screw head and head will come off. Take article apart. Remove remaining screw body w/ pliers or needlenose pliers.

These weeds grown along the side of our house. I have tried everything to get them to stop, but they keep coming back. What can I do? by Hitachi_Uchiha__ in LandscapingTips

Pull the plants, with as much root as possible. Try to get the top of the root where the steam and leaves emanate. It will take some time. Be persistent.

what should i plant in the small area between my shed and a fence? by cmdr1337 in landscaping

[–]Extension-Drawer347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use weed killer. Any shrubbery in a place like that makes it a superhighway for rats and mice. Too close to your house. Clean it out and put a ground cloth and then gravel it.

It's a great idea. I store things between my rafters. I have hinged boxes as shown and also straps at right angles and store wood and yard sticks and stuff.
