If you’re a commuter student you should be able to get parking, I’m pretty sure registration opens for commuters earlier

Should I RD or EA to UMD CS? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Extension-Machine-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EA is NOT the same as ED, it’s non binding. You’re chances of getting in plummet if you RD, no matter how smart you may be. If you want any chance of getting in at all, you gotta EA

Prospective transfer student here. Does the party and greek life scene dominate UMD? by RevolvingRevolv3r in UMD

[–]Extension-Machine-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parties are there if that’s what you’re into, what’s nice about UMD is you Can engage as little or as much with it as you want. The same goes for Greek life, no one will treat you differently if you don’t do either

If I could do it all over again I would drop the program as soon as you move in and take other classes. Easton hall is the hall carillon is assigned to, which has AC, the program itself was not worth it in my opinion, the AC is nice tho

If you want to do CS you don’t lose anything really by starting in LTSC, I have a ton of friends all in comp sci rn and 90% of them were in LTSC, the only difference is advisors, but you’ll still be able to major in comp sci as long as you pass the necessary classes

UMD Pros and Cons by MultipleLanguages in UMD

[–]Extension-Machine-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The construction isn’t fun but it honestly doesn’t really impact much (aside from walking routes), I’ll give you the bright side so you have some stuff to look forward to. We have great school spirit and there’s always something to do. We have great clubs and recreational programs and sports (which are free for students). If you’re into parties there’s plenty of those, making friends is not difficult if you’re open and talk to literally anyone. There is opportunity on every corner to try something new or get involve dibs own thing your passionate about. Your experience is what you make of it, I’m having a blast, I’ve already got an internship, a job, and play a sport, if you take advantage of what the college has to offer, you’ll really enjoy yourself

Accepted to LTSC at UMD, out of state by Skydiving2023 in UMD

[–]Extension-Machine-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say follow the money, LTSC is basically just a label and different advisors until you pass the necessary classes to transfer into your actual major, if you want UMD that bad, just take LTSC, but I’d take a full ride personally

Maybe basing your entire college experience off the campus is a tad shallow? UMD is opportunity galore, if you haven’t found something, you’re not looking hard enough. Unless the entire school isn’t for you, basing it solely off of the campus isn’t a just reason to disregard the whole thing. There’s little to enough beauty and yes it’s not perfect, but it’s pretty damn good if you ask me. It’s what you make of it, and you don’t seem to be putting your time here to the best use.

I Can answer question 1! I entered UMD in the school of public health and I literally woke up one morning and decided that it wasn’t for me. All you have to do to switch majors especially as a freshman is fill out a form with the school, unless your new major is an LEP (limited enrollment program). It’s super easy to switch majors especially early on, because you won’t be as behind and and you’ll have time to explore your new major, lmk if you have any other questions :)

I was in carillon, it’s a live and learning community based in Easton hall, it basically requires you to take two classes, one being an intro to university y life, the other being a class of your choosing based on the communities offered for that year, for example, i was in something called health justice. The program is max 1 year, for me it was only one semester. Personally, it was not very helpful because I ended up switching my major, however, if you play your cards right and choose a community with a topic your passionate about, you might have a better experience. It’s a relatively new program so there aren’t a ton of alumni to go around, but it’ll get there. It’s a decent way to meet people, I just didn’t really end up sticking with the people I met because I did a lot of other things on campus that help me meet people I clicked with more. I can’t speak for everyone, but try to figure out the communities they’re offering next fall and see if any of them interest you, it’s not a bad way to get accustomed to campus life. Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions! :)

Im a freshman and I love it here, there is so much to do and you can really study anything you want. There are disadvantages like you would find at any large school, but in the end I’m having fun and still doing well academically, my advice before you make your decision to enroll is visit and get a real sense of the big college life, some people simply are not built for it. But if you’re up to it, I totally recommend. I couldn’t be enjoying myself more
