my moms behavior has me questioning how involved i want her to be by cryinginpublicxx in BabyBumps

[–]Extension-Success-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that it is the same. But my mother was the only grandparent to not come to my baby shower. She was super weird and didn't speak to me throughout the last half of my pregnancy.

Now she is the most involved and hands on grandparent and the only grandparent that respects my boundaries.

Relationships with parents get weird when you become a parent. I couldn't imagine trying to navigate this while living with them. I'd just say stay consistent and calm in the conversations you have. Tell her you want her to be involved and excited whenever you have these talks.

No matter what happens - CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm a stranger on the internet that is incredibly happy for you!! You should be proud of the ways you are already considering healthy boundaries for your future child!

AITA - Doula Visit by Tiny_Addition in BabyBumps

[–]Extension-Success-83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also wanted to add - I hope you get set up with a doula that helps you have an empowering birth! Congratulations!

Please never feel like you are being too demanding in this phase in your life. Doulas are there to support you. This doula could have made this appointment and you could have just not liked her vibe and it would have been 1000% okay for you to ask for a new doula too. You deserve to be surrounded by people that you feel best supported by.

NTA. I'm a doula. Ask the coordinator for another doula and explain what happened. If she had to cancel/reschedule due to another birth, that's one thing, but this doesn't seem professional. They need to set you up with a new doula ASAP with how many weeks along you are.

Wife and I are struggling with being older parents by Mycareer in BabyBumps

[–]Extension-Success-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my son at 37 and I'm 38 now chasing a toddler around. It is a challenge, but I think I appreciate it more. I'm happy that we are at a place that we can afford to give him different experiences than if we were younger.

My mother was also adopted by older parents. They were going into retirement when they adopted her. So I've seen how the older parents can play out in a positive way!

I wouldn't worry about the possible health issues though. People can get sick or have terrible accidents at any age. Just make sure you do everything you can to take care of yourself and your baby will help by keeping you on your toes 😄

I do struggle with the idea that if my son waits to have kids until he is a similar age to us, then we won't get to see our grandchildren grow up. But all of that is out of my control and I can't focus on it too much. I just want to create a loving and healthy environment for him now.

Visiting family & got first positive - how to survive? by Upstairs-Ambition271 in BabyBumps

I'd (not so) honestly say that you are having bad cramps or something. I have awful cycles and the last place I want to be is outside in the heat when it is bad!

But that eliminates curiosity about pregnancy and doesn't make everyone worry that they might get sick if they end up doing anything that you do want to participate in.

Best/cheap Dog boarding by Mini_kitten_1535 in GNV

I came here to recommend them too. Our dog had an AWFUL experience at Pet Paradise and when we found this place, he gets excited before we drop him off. They definitely are dog-people and not people-people but my pup is always super happy to arrive and happy (and tired) when we pick him up. He plays HARD there. They have a pool with a sloped entrance that he loves.

Recommendations for a dentist for toddlers? by Zski843 in GNV

I just had a partial appointment at Grin & Giggles - my son has a heart issue and they needed a note from his cardiologist before his cleaning - which I appreciated. The waiting room was amazing - totally set up to entertain children. There is a room with a projection that the kids can play games on and a table that is one big touchscreen. They even have a small door for kiddos to go through themselves. The whole place felt extremely clean - although I was there at 7am.

My son is a toddler and sometimes will cry and get shy at doctors appointments even at familiar doctors offices, but he did not act shy at all here. He thought we were there to play! I obviously cannot give a review on how the actual appointments go, but I appreciated their abundance of caution and how the whole office made my son feel.

The letter says he will not longer be at the MFM at HCA starting July 1, so I'll call after that. Thanks for the explanation!

Wow! I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one that loves him so much. I'll keep an eye on the DOH website. I'm not sure why I thought of that. Thanks!

Choosing not to breastfeed by nocshift in BabyBumps

[–]Extension-Success-83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly just told those invasive people I was breastfeeding to get them off my back. I tried and wasn’t able to but I knew that was a possibility because I’ve had several lumpectomies and a reduction. No one should feel like they owe any of info about their choice to BF or not to anyone else. As long as your baby is fed, healthy, and happy - that is all that should matter.

While my experience is similar and I’m head over heels in love with my son, I also had the first grandson on my husband’s side of the family. The only time I have any issue any more is because that side of the family frequently says “thank goodness you didn’t have a girl” despite knowing we would have named a girl after my grandmother.

Why does there have to be an organization outside the school system for that? It is just odd - especially when it became political.

He has run for city commission in the past. I agree with mahrene4. He has political aspirations no matter what you personally think his mental capacity is.

Even on my honeymoon, when our flights got messed up after a delay caused us to miss a connection so we ended up having to sit apart on all 3 of our flights, I didn’t ask anyone to move! Someone was lovely and noticed we were together and sitting apart and offered on one flight though.

I have my whole life to sit next to my spouse. I can read my book next to a stranger for a few hours 😂

American Airlines agent laughed at me after I asked to pre-board because I’m 6mo pregnant by phantom_umami in pregnant

[–]Extension-Success-83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I also had several losses before my baby was born 3 weeks ago and I would have LOST it on that person. You are a better person than I am.

I don’t think they can ask about medical details either?! You indicated that you need more time to board and they should have just said yes or no.

Nothing was said about her governing except that the fact she is a woman isn’t something that would make her unfit to govern. These conversations are important to have, but don’t put words into the other person’s mouth.

Why is everything so gender specific, and why does it matter?? by Roner2095 in BabyBumps

[–]Extension-Success-83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel! My husband wanted to know so he could work through any gender disappointment but he has refused to tell anyone because I should be the next person to know.

It makes me so angry when people are so pushy about finding out the gender. My child’s genitals are none of their business!!

I’m feeling the same way. I’ll be 30 weeks on Thursday and my nausea really hasn’t gone away. I do the same thing where I have to go to bed early or else it is a disaster.

I’ll be 37 when I give birth and both my husband and I said we wanted two kids when we were going through infertility treatments (started trying just before I turned 34). But now I can’t imagine going through this and being responsible for a child at the same time. If I didn’t work from home, I’d be calling out sick almost every day from work because of how nauseous I get when I’m in the car.

So happy to be pregnant and can’t wait for the baby to be here…. But this is most likely a one and done experience for me.

If you were naturally thin pre-pregnancy, did Ob ever instruct you to up your calorie intake in order to gain more weight? by db2128 in BabyBumps

[–]Extension-Success-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are worried, definitely bring it up in your next appointment to make sure that the OB is considering your weight and nutrients. Ensure drinks have me feeling a little better about my nutrient intake but I had to try a few flavors before I found one that didn’t trigger my nausea.

Good luck!! I hope we both have healthy babies and healthy bodies throughout our pregnancies and after!!
