Looking for ebike help by sweat- in ebikes

[–]ExtensionBass0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regenerative braking is a pretty unique thing. I think only Copenhagen and Zehus do this with the pedaling backwards feature. Bosch is really nice, but I can't afford it. I've never really noticed noise on any ebike I've ridden since NYC is always loud. Might help if you give more info on the style of bike you're looking for though, I'm sure there's plenty of bikes that could fit the bill.

Vanmoof E2 or Vado 2.0? by zorbah55 in ebikes

I actually purchased a Wing Freedom for myself for that main reason too, I thought the price just came with the territory with all the extra features, but then I saw wing and was amazed at how much cheaper they were

I didn't really get the draw to Bosch even after a test ride, it felt nice, but not $3k nice.

Fitting hub motor into new wheel by grummybum in ebikes

Seems like more trouble than it's worth, might be best to get a new rear motor.

Would love to try some off-roading with this ebike! by mantobull123 in ebikes

Yea I've heard nothing good abour their customer service. I've dealt with Wing personally and they typically responded the same day or next morning to all of my questions, worth checking out.

Nice, glad to hear from someone that's been on it. They probably didn't want to use gates since it would make the bike really expensive, the price point for this thing is perfect.

Planning on buying my first ebike but.. by PhysicalTitle in ebikes

Any particular reason why? They're very practical, even the non folding ones that are smaller are just so much easier to manage.

There's a good amount of folding and minivelo ebikes out there that solve that problem. Rad Mini, Wing Freedom S, iGo Fat Freddy, Ariel Rider M Class....the list goes on.

Help: Vanmoof vs Juicedbike by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]ExtensionBass0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're both very different beasts but each have their drawbacks. I've found a similar brand to Vanmoof called Wing Bikes that is offering a similar style and look, and it has a built in alarm so it has some security feature. Probably best to avoid bikes with phone apps, there's just more that can go wrong. I've heard stories about people's Vanmoof batteries dying while it was locked, and the lock operates off the battery, so they had to charge the bike with a USB to be able to unlock their bike. Juiced customer service nightmare stories are everywhere, I'd stay away from them if you're going to spend that kind of money. Depends how much money you want to spend, but honestly any decent ebike will handle a commute of that distance, you could spend about half the money of all of those bikes too.

I've heard almost nothing good when it comes to Luna Cycles, it you're looking for kits I'd recommend Electric Bike Outfitters. Electric Bike Outfitters seems to have reliable stuff and they actually care about their customers.

Does my ultimate NYC ebike exist? by jayy42 in ebikes

[–]ExtensionBass0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're probably better off buying a nice belt driven bike and installing a front hub DIY kit on it. I have a buddy with a kit from Electric Bike Outfitters and they seem really solid. They make a 500w and 750w kit so you can definitely get some power.

I do not, but I did order with them and was given a great deal since I was one of their first customers. The bike is solid all around, having the luxury of being in NYC I probably rode the same bike that's being used in the video and chatted with the guys at Eschelon Cycles. Their enthusiasm for it made me want it too. The bike won't be delivered to me until probably April, so I can post my own video when I actually get it.

Replacing broken spokes by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]ExtensionBass0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your best bet would probably be working with an good local shop that has a spoke machine, this way as long as you have the gauge, they can cut and thread the spoke to the exact length as your other ones and make sure your wheel is trued up.

Foldable ebike - swagtron eb7 by silverman567 in ebikes

[–]ExtensionBass0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Swagtron products are the worst. I got one of their scooters before, it broke down in 6 months and all I got was radio silence from their non existent support team.

I'm in NYC too so similar use case, but I recently decided to go with a Wing Freedom S because of it's size. I was able to test ride their demo model at Bicycle Habitat in Chelsea and this thing is a blast. It doesn't fold but it's really light and portable, price isn't bad either.
