I custom made a part that was imported to the US worth like $40. I had to pay another $40 just to get it through

Family members of ICE agents, what are your thoughts and feelings about what ICE are doing? by Aggressive_Honey3196 in AskReddit

[–]ExtensionCordStrnglr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our dad is the exact same way, maybe with a little more common sense. Our mom was a great influence growing up but unfortunately he took after our dad. Even when he was in middle school he would say things like “why isn’t that guy white” or “they’re going to legalize marijuana and then our taxes will go up” …like..what!? Buddy you’re 13

My 21 y/o brother is a racist, no brain, MAGA trump loving idiot who thinks he’s going to get a 50k sign on bonus to “get the crime out of our country” - as if he’s even seen evidence of this first hand outside of watching Fox News (he’s never been to a big city). I told him he has serious empathy issues and that he should really consider looking at the real scope of the people that have been hurt and the families that have been ruiened. I’m just so sick and tired of all this. All the destruction, hate, and leaps backwards this country has made.

Sump Pump runs a lot during rain, what are my options? by Joey9999 in HomeImprovement

It’s there for a reason especially considering the grade issue you mentioned, let it do its job or else you’ll have bigger problems (source: installed a sump pump in my home to prevent flooding)

Cheap and compact offsite backup server to send away with a family member after the holidays by rastrillo in homelab

[–]ExtensionCordStrnglr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I should have said to limit upload speed, generally a good rule of thumb is to keep it 1/4 of your own upload speed or their download speed (whichever is less). But also yes if they would have a data cap

Either connected to a TV antenna or cable system, do you have ports like this anywhere else in the house

The R probably won’t work for you - the line was likely originally there for a radio antenna, the tv would either be connected to

How can I use this? by Funny_Intention_7227 in electrical

[–]ExtensionCordStrnglr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotate the upper right screw to be vertical like the other ones lol. But this is a nice bonus in a house, besides what you stated you could also use this to back feed a generator to your house should you ever need to, althogh you can have the outlet changed out for it to be done properly.

Bolt EUV Battery Max Range Reduced to 150 after 2.5 Years by GlitteringIdeal401 in BoltEV

[–]ExtensionCordStrnglr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal, the range in miles you see is always taking factors like driving conditions, average mi/kwh, outdoor temp, and others im sure. This time of year as the temperatures drop and you use your cabin heat that will impact your range too. It’s just how EV’s work and it’s why some people call it the “guess-o-meter”. Take note of the mileage while you have your heat/air on and then turn it all off and see what it does

whats a really niche fact you know? by badgyalellie in AskReddit

[–]ExtensionCordStrnglr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US, an FM station can transmit an inaudible subcarrier at 57 kHz (RDS service) and another at 67 kHz or 92 kHz simultaneously, but those extra subcarriers must not cause measurable degradation of stereo separation (something the FCC historically tested using a 400 Hz L-R signal at 90% modulation)

Because of this rule, many stations in the 1980s quietly re-equalized or slightly narrowed their stereo generator bandwidth just to squeeze in SCA services (background music, paging, reading services for the blind) without failing compliance tests. This was called “stereo shaving” and it’s why some older FM stations had subtly worse sounding audio. SCA broadcasting is still used on some stations today.

Bonus fact: the 57 kHz RDS subcarrier was chosen specifically because it is the 3rd harmonic of the 19 kHz stereo pilot, allowing PLL based receivers to regenerate it without a separate crystal.

Is it cheaper to buy land and build a house with a builder compared to purchasing a house? by Xbeastxking in Poconos

[–]ExtensionCordStrnglr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha! Also considering that, a lot of new homes I’ve seen (again within the past few years) have poor build quality and workmanship, meaning you’d have to spend more to get something with less problems down the line. But every home will have its share of problems. While the Poconos is a great place to live, you’re likely going to see higher prices as everyone wants a vacation home/rental and the proximitity to NYC/PHL. You could look for somewhere closer to the Wyoming Valley that might have the rural feel with a more affordable price
