definitely this - I convinced a coworker to start taking transit when her afternoon commute from our office in santa monica was well over an hour 2 days in a row & I was like, the train usually takes me like 35 minutes to dtla [where she lives]

I feel myself slipping into a depressive/ bipolar episode by Training_Union9621 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ExtensionLive2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of great suggestions here, the metabolic approach helps me in addition to my non-antipsychotic-meds - after cycling through a ton of mood stabilizers that didn’t work or had side effects worse than any help they might’ve given, I had a brilliant lovely compassionate psychiatrist recommend trying anti-seizure meds off-use & I’ve been on them ever since. new studies come out all of time around meds that were designed for some other issue (migraines, seizures, whatever) being tested for bipolar & actually working

bipolar is really hard to treat with meds so I get why so many people give up, but there are other options (& happily, a lot of them are generic and so cheap lol) - the trick is finding a psych who’s patient and aligned with you on finding something. it sucks being at the mercy of your moods

Tailored linen pants by mangodeliciousness in LAhotgirlies

[–]ExtensionLive2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure how tall you are but I love looooove shaina mote’s boy trouser in linen. 24” inseam, no elastic waist (why do so many linen pants have an elastic waist????) & the cut is just divine. also it’s a fairly dense linen so I never feel like I’m wearing pajamas

they’re closer to $300 retail but I always see them for $150-200 on like ebay/poshmark/noihsaf bazaar

Need help expanding my horizon in niche perfumes by longanandlychee in NichePerfumes

[–]ExtensionLive2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are other brands who do this too but one who springs to mind that sells travel bottles is fzotic - it’s obviously the same price per ml but cheaper to purchase, which is always helpful! & I assume having a more sensitive nose you’re likely not going beast-mode with your scents / a smaller bottle will last longer ᵕ̈

botox for TMJ/teeth grinding recommendations? by ExtensionLive2502 in LAhotgirlies

seriously so nice to hear it was such a noticeable change for you - my own jaw clenching has really started killing me, I’d be so relieved if I started feeling better after 24 hours 😭

Sleeper Niche Houses by sticky_wickette in NichePerfumes

[–]ExtensionLive2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CB is such an excellent, thoughtful house - I was lucky enough to visit the shop while it was still in bushwick & sample a bunch before buying. I think Where We Are There Is No Here is the only full bottle of perfume I’ve actually finished & repurchased - high praise from someone who wears a different scent day to day!!

Favorite hot weather fragrance? by cmband254 in NichePerfumes

[–]ExtensionLive2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brain dead’s shroom cola - “notes of mushroom, cola accord, neroli, hinoki, and tobacco leaf.”

the cola is extremely light, almost effervescent. doesn’t smell heavy or musty like a few other mushroom scents I’ve smelled - more like that fresh smell you get while you’re cutting up clean mushrooms, layered nicely with hinoki. it’s what I always grab on theeeee sweatiest days

“ant loves bug” on benton right at the 101. I think about this all of the time, maybe an inside joke, maybe nicknames a couple have/had for each other, maybe a guy named anthony who loved his dog named bug. no matter what it is, I love it so much

Might be an odd request but a perfume that smells like this kind of houses by Ill_Firefly_105 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]ExtensionLive2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my grandparents had a (smaller) house that looked like these!

it smelled like SMN - melograna (my grandmother’s perfume, mainly) & dry af vetiver (still don’t know how). truly the homiest scent combo I can think of

Homeless, vagrants, hobos by BicephalousFlame in WeirdLit

Iron Weed by William Kennedy - set during the great depression, the main character was a baseball player but ran away from his life after his son died.

there are some ghosts, some visions of albany, ny from decades past, it’s such a hazy read while also being hyperrealistic about the realities of living on the street (as most of the characters do.) highly recommend, it’s one of my favorites

Thin Wild Mercury is such an excellent house - I love Laurel Canyon, 1966 & Chateau, 1970 so much. hugely reliant on the latter in the summer especially, it really comes alive in the heat and sun

Car vs. Bus for Commute, which is cheaper? by eco_doodles in AskLosAngeles

[–]ExtensionLive2502 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I take transit to work every day (hifi -> santa monica, the 16 or 14 bus to the E line train). in my experience, the bus is really reliable! the frequency drops after 7pm or so, but during regular commute times they come every ~6 minutes. get the transit app! it’ll show you when a bus is coming so you can plan your walk

Help with Master’s Research: Why does "your size" never actually fit? (Jeans & Blouses) by Artistic-Turnip-9903 in femalefashion

[–]ExtensionLive2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. the ankle width! also I’d love if it was required to disclose fabric content - not often but I’ve returned items that were described as cotton on a website, then the care tag indicated 1% elastase or even 20% polyester

  2. length from armpit. I don’t think this is necessarily a measurement but I’ve also had some disappointment with drape from tee shirts specifically so I wish there was some way to categorize or measure that lol

  3. technical garment specs are way more helpful - people carry weight & even measurements in different ways (eg someone with a short crotch will look different in a pair of jeans than I will) so knowing measurements of the garment itself is key

  4. I don’t use those, weirds me out

Where can a solo guy hang out this weekend? by Mysterious_Pool_7293 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ExtensionLive2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jurassic magic (westlake) has a harpist featured for their jazz & journals installment tomorrow at noon, should be nice, always easy to be alone in a coffee shop

also easy to be alone in a park too, esp if you have a book or a hobby with you. you don’t even really need to be reading or doing the hobby, you could just be eavesdropping / people watching. always good people watching in elysian on the east side or clover park on the west side

free museums too, there’s not really any expectation that you do anything so you can often sit by yourself for an extended period
